Hear me out, from Trump's perspective, I think picking Vance is a smart move. Trump's brand is all about exerting power over others. Vance was anti-Trump, becoming Trump's VP shows that he has completely caved to the MAGA movement. Trump does not want an established Republican brand like Marco Rubio or a fierce newcomer like Ramaswamy. He needs an obedient follower who could not survive without the Trump brand. If Trump gets in trouble again, he needs a VP that'll say: "we must save Trump", not "I've got this". You can look up any dictator's handbook, and you'll see all this stuff is already written out for Trump. He's an unabashed dictator-wannabe.
