I've always known this was where Trump was planning to go since the infamous "Russia, if you're listening" line. Trump has never said a mean thing about Putin. That is a very glaring statistic. He attacks Democrats or Republicans at the drop of a hat if he's angry or he thinks it will benefit him in some way. He has no problem talking down to NATO members or leaders of other democratic countries. But he rarely shows any animus towards authoritarian leaders, never against Putin. It's pretty obvious that Trump likes dictators and he wants to be a dictator himself.

@@brucesmith6007 Your state still has some form of autonomy. That's where you keep your power. But your idea seems to be based upon power dynamics, not 1 person 1 vote. Why should a state with 0.5mln people have just as much power in the Senate and Presidential elections as a state with 20mln people? That doesn't make sense. I'm sure it was a compromise made at the beginning of your democracy, but it's obsolete. I suggest to watch the European Union more closely. We are a union of 27 countries, by now. And yes, the big countries have more voting power than the smaller countries. Doesn't mean the smaller countries don't have a voice; they have equal saying power, just not as much voting power, since they don't have as many people. This saying power ensures good ideas can rise to the forefront. If something that's good for Estonia can be brought to the table, countries like Poland, France or Germany will listen & analyse it, to see if it can be scaled up. Something that works for a population of 5mln does not necessarily work for a population of 80mln, you know. Which is exactly why a state like Utah should not have as much voting power as f.i. California or Texas or Florida.

Although I understand your intent, that's the very definition of fascism: Force people to listen to the party line... 🙃 Because force means punishment. If there is no punishment, people will just turn off their radio/phone/TV/whatever. So, although I agree that everyone should hear this, there is no way to force it upon people. If you think, that the USA are a constitutional republic and not a democracy (I hear about this idea from time to time), there is historic precedent. The similarities to my country are evident: Like in your country many thought of the political system of Germany only as a "Republic". It was called the "Weimar Republic". The political system was fragile, the democratic structures not solid enough, the society divided. There was the threat of the communist party and a general feeling of injustice and economic hardship, that many felt. The result was catastrophic. It was you, the Americans, that liberated us from our dictator. It is something to remember. The democratic state, that was founded after the war was called the "Federal Republic of Germany". As a German I would like to remind you Americans, that the Nazis in Germany were able to pull off the ending of the Weimar Republic in only six weeks in February - March 1933. The democracy that guarantees your very freedom and prosperity, is a fragile construct.

There is an unwritten but accepted protocol between democracies that politicians don't make public comments about the internal affairs of allies. Despite this protocol the whisperings in the corridors of power in other democracies are getting louder decrying that Trump is still somehow on the US ballot for November. Here in Australia we have enormous concerns that Trump poses a grave threat to national security. We are currently working with the US and the UK on developing an agreement (AUKUS) for the sharing of nuclear submarine technologies to counter the aggression of Putin. We know that Trump has bragged to an Australian billionaire about US nuclear secrets that were probably part of the stash he kept at the golf resort. We know Trump has publicly shared his affection for Putin. All democracies need to know before November the extent of Trump's alleged crimes in the classified documents case. The fact that Cannon is dithering on this case is shocking and reprehensible.

It's likely he will not be removed from the ballot. I'm not at all sure why anyone would persist in keeping that lying, narcissistic, foolish schadenfreude on any kind of leadership ballot. However, he is the easiest for President Biden to defeat. He is no longer able to speak coherently, finish words properly, stay on subject, has no platform, just talks about himself or spouts a bunch of drivel. He's an embarrassment to foe and well foe (He doesn't have friends.). He is guaranteed to turn on him when they no longer serve his purposes. And they are going to jail and paying hefty fines as a result. They aren't going to gain anything - not position, not money, not prestige, not power. They will go to jail and pay their way into poverty. How do you convince yourself to believe in such a one? One who will destroy you?

Hmmm... I would not blame Obama for that. Europe should have stood up first. Like I commented above, somewhere: Where were we when Mao invaded Tibet? I think India should have made a lot of noise at the time, which didn't happen. And so Mao could fight a 4-5 year long war in Tibet without much attention in the rest of the world. Just the same for Crimea 2014: Europe should have made a lot more noise, but we were sleeping through our addiction to ruZZian oil & propaganda. We, western Europeans, were not really aware of the European roots of Ukraine; we just saw "popular uprisings against ruZZian-sponsored dictators". I think I was not the only one not giving it much attention, here in western Europe. Which is a terrible, terrible mistake. Slava Ukraini! 💙💛

I just wrote exactly what you both think about autocracies & Trump & how Putin's play book is definitely in America & has been for a few years on a few MT channels. I am also Ukrainian born in Canada. However, 90% of my relatives remain in Western Ukraine. I was getting tired of some sites just fighting back about who is more or less demented (Trump or Biden). I told them to forget Trump, & focus on the brains behind him. If Trump dies tomorrow, they will have a #2 in place in a second. To be perfectly honest: Where were we when ruZZia invaded Georgia? Crushed Chechnya? Destroyed Syria? It's only because Ukraine is European we stood up. This is existential for us, Europeans. Tibet: I 100% agree. And I think India should have made a lot more noise at the time, but I guess they were going through their own transition at the time. XinJiang: Yes. I've been there, in 2018. It is horrible to see empty streets with triply-caged (steel bars!) houseblocks everywhere. There has been some outrage, but there's not enough will to really do something about it, apparently. I had some respect for the Chinese model of growth, although I didn't really trust the information, until I visited Xinjiang and Tibet. Now I am 100% against the Chinese model and we should go down on them hard, economically and politically. Simply because their version of 'human' rights is a version of Han-Chinese First. And yes, that will hurt, since all OUR oligarchs / industrialists moved their production to China. So, we will lose a lot of prosperity by boycotting China. But is autocracy really an alternative???
