Most of the fruits and vegetables grown in the U.S. are picked by undocumented workers. American farmers explain to Cristina Alesci how Donald Trump's big plans for immigration would decimate American crops.
j h those jobs pay shit, because they can find illegals to work for shit wages and no benefits. I will gladly pay more in the store to put U.S. citizens back to work at a fair wage. I made $12 an hour as a young teenager. Illegal immigration wasnt as prevalent then. I was just a laborer on a landscaping crew. They are still paying those wages due to illegals. They are able to pay them shit wages, no benefits, and put them in unsafe working conditions. It business owners being greedy and people not being able to comprehend they need to respect other countries borders and laws.
Jiren The savage i say it because its true. I personally make really good money and even it doubles it wont hurt me. Plus eventually there will be a cost of living adjustment in people's pay if you work for decent company which will somewhat offset that rise in cost. I am totally fine with paying more if it means putting U.S. citizens to work for a decent wage.
No people are lazy they just know the wages that these Farmers want to pay them they can't live especially if they have to drive to work everyday and when they only pay $0.35 a bushel migrant workers come here virtually for free they live on the farmthey make their money then they cultivated and go back home where their money value soars through the roof because they are being paid inAmerican money which is turned into pesos and they live like kings they never talked about this they never ever ever talk about this and never will these migrants are faking a wounded paw
@@wendellmadfinger2358 I make $15.30 per hour. I pay my bills just fine and I'm able to save as well. I'm only ever balling when I get sent to work outta the city and they pay me perdiem. This is an alright job dude. U.S. citizens just feel above it all and aren't willing to break a sweat for their pay check. And don't blame it on the current generation being "too soft" cuz I'm pretty sure I'm considered a millennial. If you want money go work hard and save harder.
@@jrudymorganclark2072 take the government handouts away and make it to where if you want to eat or have things you work. Much of the jobs were done by citizens greed and cheap labor pushed them out. Construction is a great example of that
When slavery ended they thought farms wouldn't be function, but, they figured it out. It's the same thing going on today. Slavery then, cheap labor now......
Joyce Chapman now you know what “ Make America Great Again “ really means? Government took our free labor (slaves) now their taking our cheap labor (illegal immigrants). But they call minority’s lazy just a phrase in effort to make them do what they aren’t willing too.
A farmer In my area has a farm large enough to supply a 4 state area with produce, In July I called for Green Beans the Owner said I don't have a Green Bean on the Place, when I inquired in person, his "workers like you are talking about" Robbed him, took all the produce and was gone.
Revelation 6:6, KJV: "And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine."
worked in the fields for a little over a month , back breaking work and I now have more respect for all those individuals breaking their backs to put fresh fruits and vegetables on our tables but let me remind you I did not see any anglo American working out there in 105 degree heat , so much for immigrants taking American jobs.
Well all I can say why don't they figure out the ones that are working on the farmer's property help them out to get a working Visa so they can keep working for that time. And then return back to Mexico that is for those that are working for the farmers help those out first that will you help the farmers
Instead of going on spring break and spending mommy and daddy money college kinds should be doing this kind of work. If I was a college kid on break and I can't find a job then I would be picking fruits
Unless majoring in STEM, a college degree will only leave kids deep in debt, with no real marketable skills. Better go straight to the farm than univ. Of course that is anathema to the American Dream narrative.
When I was still in school , my Dad would always take us out to work in the fields. And as I grew older , I continued the work to the point where I would go out on my own ......!!!!!
Temporary worker permits would solve the problem but greedy farmers wanted no enforcement to ensure the temporary part of work visas. Cheap foreign labor has impeded the agricultural robot industries; still strives have been made, we have excellent tomato picking robots and other agricultural robots. Farmers could not be trusted to use only lawful temporary workers now there will be strict limits but the workers will be "temporary". Many of the older temporary workers have been here for 20 years hoping they could just blend in. Sessions’ Confirmation: Era of ‘Mass Amnesty Policies’ Is Over, Says Pro-American Immigration Reformer
These farmers should have mechanised years ago, but cheap illegal workers saved them money. Scare mongerers who know that there will be an initial cost in mechanisation that they do not wish to make. If they paid the American workers their true value, they would work and also if these illegals are being paid, are they paying taxes?
ILLEGAL ALIENS. Immigrants go through the front door not the back ones. Illegals cost more to taxpayers in services than they get paid for working. Legal immigrants are welcome here and have rights and responsibilities just like everyone else. Do it right or not at all.
Why can't we go back to Prison labor. We have millions of grown able bodied men sitting in prison with three meal a day, TV, recreational time, drugs. Why can't these prisons start picking crops, in exchange get their sentences reduced.
Mr: presidente Trump never put USA first whatever you had to said on as america first wrong , God first over all things bible said and you will be bless by God from you recognize God first. God blessed you .
As far as I remember there is a farm program where people are documented and given a work permit, what ever happened to that. Some of us know a guy on wall street ain't going do that.
I tried growing cantaloupe in my backyard which required tons of water. It wasn't even worth it to me, although they were still good just not bountiful.
Sucks doesn't it? In a perfect world, everyone would be able to have backyard gardens that are "fruitful" while saving them $ at the grocery stores. Location is key from what I've researched in addition to proper layout/design & appropriate selections of preferred planting zones, etc.
But you are not going to eat cantaloupes 365 days a year! US citizens should start doing backyard farming so that they became less dependant on food prices on the short term.
@@gustavobarajas6155 In theory yes, but the term Latino have been hick-jacked in the last few decades and is commonly associated with Central and to a certain extent, South American people...
Luis Sousa How do you transform felons into efficient harvesters? Their motivation and productivity isn't there. There is time pressure for many crops. Don't meet the deadlines which even illegals have to work overtime to meet and there are losses. The productivity of felons is a fraction of the illegals.
A lot of Americans won't do that because they feel it's beneath them. They say "I'm too educated", "I'm too intelligent", "it's dirty", "it's messy", etc. A lot of those employers say about American workers "you're lazy", "you're slow, "you want too much money", "you want too many days off", "you're always late", etc. Foreign workers will work harder, faster and longer in more difficult conditions for the same wage.
Import those produce from Mexico. They are priced as good as the the ones we get here. Do you think you'll be paying these undocumented laborer that low forever. Dont be a fool.
Tbh as a Mexican this makes me wanna cry not all of us are bad people not all of us are criminals some of bus just happen to look for a better living and earn some money so you can feed your family were not stealing jobs were doing the jobs Americans dont want to do
In *CAPITALISM* if you can't get workers at a certain rate of pay and benefits then you raise that pay and benefits until you can. What's happening now is not capitalism.
Why don’t they push their employees to get documents like they are doing them at the border now or buy more machines? If they train them to use machines and make the fields energy efficient and worker smarter; something should improve.
Kate Brady We all need to learn life,! We are the world best, and stop putting your country down. We can do anything that we put our minds, into. We are Americans. Don't forget. We have a lot of pensioners in our jails. Put them to work. Just maybe it well make them think of all the bad things they have done,!.
I have an idea. Why not have these farmers supply busses at the border and request for migrants with work permits. Bus them to their farms, provide housing and food during the harvest, then bus them back to the border when the products have been harvested. They would not be allowed to leave the farms. They are here to work.
Where are these $12 an hour farm jobs? I never see any advertising for them. I have seen ads for orange pickers usually around $10 and its usually 90% immigrants but there's usually a few Americans there. I guarantee if you start paying around $12 or $13 you can go into any trailer park, hood, or just walk into a McDonalds and say "who wants to make $12 an hour?" you'll find the workers. The problem is they never even try. They specifically target immigrants because they think they can pay them less money. Then they try to low ball people on pay. Even then you get some Americans. But they don't advertise these jobs where Americans can see them, then even if an American does they don't want to work and stay with all people who can't speak English etc. I mean I go on craigslist and the majority of construction and farm job ads are in spanish. They don't even want you if you can't speak Spanish. They don't advertise in American newspapers. Why? They don't have to pay taxes on illegals (paid under the table), they can low ball people on pay etc. It's just a matter of adjusting though. There are so many unemployed and underpaid Americans if you pay a decent rate and advertise for it you can find people. Anyone saying otherwise is a liar. "We pay people $15 an hour to pick apples. We can't find any Americans" when was the last time you saw an ad in the paper offering $15 an hour for any unskilled job? How can McDonalds, KFC etc. have no problem filling their jobs up and they only pay minimal wage? For that matter Wal-mart and etc.
Its funny it used to be that migrant workers were brought in on busses. When the work was done they went back to south America and exchanged the U.S. dollars for pesos and th3 money was very good everyone was happy. And I PROMISE you of a US citizen went there for a job he or she would NOT be allowed to work because the illigals would NEVER ALLOW that to happen. These farmers have allowed this type situation to evolve because illegals make sure they are not actually involved anymore. The owners have become lazy and have given all the power to the illegals. These people need to be made accountable.
nobody is saying how much money these farmers are making on these illegal aliens! they are pissed off because there losing money, because they cant take advantage of American citizens. i dont feel sorry for these greedy farmers,to bad you have to take a pay cut
I don't want to be an ass but if these farmers actually hired non illegal immigrants they wouldn't have problems. I think farmers that hire undocumented workers should be fined.
If there were a way that these immigrants could legally enter the country they would have one it by now, but the USA has strict immigration laws allowing only the rich and fortunate to enter legally, meanwhile the poor and persecuted are not allowed into the country, the ones who need help the most are left out.if you don't believe me just look up your immigration laws.
its not gonna hurt farmers, who in the world thought of that.... na, itll only hurt people who EATS here in america... feelingsss wont matter when it comes to your empty pockets....
3:30 America is producing less of its own food and importing more. That is true of fruit and veg that require farm workers; but it's certainly not the case for commodity crops like wheat, soybeans, corn, sunflower where everything can be done by a few men driving tractors and combines. But even that cohort is mostly middle-aged, and their children don't want to take over the family farm.
in cali here they do the same they rather try to collect unemployment than do hard labor is so sad and they are always complaining about illigals taking their jobs they don't make sense at all too bad we here and will do the hard labor to make ends meet and is not welfare like they say .
Farmers created this mess because they wanted cheap labor. They exploited the migrants for a bigger profit. I am from Tennessee. My grandparents were farmers. They bought equipment to do their harvest with. When it came time to bail hay for the cattle the families all got together and worked together to do it. We didn't have migrants come and do the work for cheap labor. I saw a farmer on another video belly aching about how he was going to lose his farm without the illegals there to pick his harvest. The thing is that man must have weighed 400 + pounds. He has been sitting on his fat butt, paying cheap labor, for illegals to work his farm for him and he has become fat and lazy! Now I'm not saying all farmers are lazy. But, he was! He didn't look like he'd put in a days worth of work for many many years. It's a pathetic shame that their need for cheap labor is hurting them. But, when slavery ended they probably felt the same way. But, did America die?? Did our farms cease to exist?? I'm sure they felt that way because they lost their work force. Well guess what? Some farmers will fail. But, most won't. They will figure it out. The will be forced to buy proper equipment for harvest. They will be forced to work for themselves and depend on their families like my grandparents did. They will be forced to pay a fair wage to their workers. All of these things they should have been doing all along.
Illegal immigrant pickers cost us far more socially and economically than the small savings we get on produce. Not a good trade off at all. Would have been better to just pay a little more for produce.
Joe del Bosque if u pay the Americans $30 an hour u will have legal help. Paying cheap labor to the illegals is what keeps u in business and that's why u farmers are all millionaires.
Like Noe said, how big of an impact would immigrant workers have on the states that voted for Trump if they decided to only work for states which support immigration or didn't vote for Trump?
