Rick should just start his own RU-vid channel where he can rant from his home office. I'd tune into that every day. He makes more sense than half the pundits out there - or most.
Rick Mercer is a goofy Newfie and he is a great Canadian icon when it comes to Canadian comedians, he is right up there. Good luck on your retirement Rick Mercer from the Mercer Report. Bon Chance! 👍😊🇨🇦
There you have it folks,a real honest reporter, the kind that is becoming very rare in the mainstream media. Rick Mercer doesn't try to judge our politicians with a one sided view. He seems able to discern between the good and bad points of today's politicians. He would definitely be very unhappy having to work for CNN or a network that aligns their format based on their corrupt narrative.
Its sort of interesting when you say CNN having a corrupt narrative. From my point of view they cannot have a corrupt narrative because they have no real duty to report accurately. Pure and simple they have a duty to make money. If that goal is better accomplished by selling conformation bias, or supporting big companies, or supporting their parent company to try to influence public opinion one way or another than that is what they are supposed to do. Many people believe the media is failing us, and it is very true. Much of this is caused by our lack of understanding of the role of media, and that their main job is to investigate and inform the public for the public good. Not to make money, or push a point of view. This is in part of why the CBC is so important. A news organization which does not have a profit incentive. Sure, its not perfect but it is far better than its corporate counterparts.
Rick Mercer one the best Canadian Comedians to hit the air. Talking to Americans was probably one of the best segments ever done. Regarding today's politics Trudeau is by far Canadas worst political disaster. The boy man was ill equipped for the job day one and it hadn't gotten any better. As this was a CBC interview they pretty much had to give Trudeau a pass.
Rick Mercer is one of the people that make me proud being Canadian. I don't agree with most of his personal views, and I do believe there are many Canadians who are as smart and as entertaining as he is. What makes me unconformable is that CBC hasn't given a chance to anyone who's opinions are right leaning or more conservative, and help them be a star and make money. Of all the people, Rick Mercer should have been the one to shed light on this issue, perhaps in a form of one of his Rants? He may have mentioned it in the book, but I highly doubt it. Vassy is a great host for this show and she seems to be giving a slight fighting chance to the people who don't agree with current Government. In this interview I would have liked her ask the question of PPC and Mr. Bernier. Good luck in your future endeavors Rick, and I hope you continue to be a champion for Canada and ALL Canadians. We need our unity that was stolen from us back.
I was thinking the same thing, but for federal politics the party not the people decides who runs. Like when your wife gives you two outfits and asks you to pick one she should wear and then chooses the other one. Like when we give you three or four options of baby names so you think you picked the name. The federal parties give about three options for candidates they want and we get all excited, but the party chooses in the end. Mercer could replace Doug Ford in a heart beat no matter which party he was in. Mercer should start his own party. The Mercer Glacier Party. Party slogan "Hell Just Froze Over" Vote for Rick Mercer, Canadians are skating on thin ice . Before Ontario paves over everything and leaves a concrete jungle, while lining the pockets of Ford and his buddies, meanwhile while Trudeau sells off all our natural resources, land, water and air we breathe. We need a Robin Hood before King Trudeau and Sheriff Ford, steal our children's and grandchildren's future. Vote Mercer
People always ask why he won't run for prime minister. Its because he understands how "democracy" actually works and knows like me, that he would have a heart attack if he actually saw the things that go on with the people that run our country. I love this guy, and if there was one person in the world I would wish to meet, it is him.
A great loss for Canadian. He is so right about Andrew Sheer statement “I would have made a better deal”. Whatever Party I am voting, I just hate when someone makes an empty statement like that.
@@mattnewby123 You are out of context. I am talking about the statement "“I would have made a better deal”". Listen to the interview part about this statement.
You could hear the details if you took the time to tune into some of the H of Cms debate or read some of the position statements released instead of just listening to media sound bites. The 'fault is your lack of ingenuity to educate yourself about the matter not Sheer's. Mercer is a left winger who is happy to sit on the sidelines and poke fun at others, but God help us, if this gobshite were to actually be in government but no chance of any of these people running because it would be soon shown they have no answers either.
@@rapier1954 You have no clue if I am following politics or not. You even have no clue if I am left or right wing. Yet, you make a statement on my political education and position especially about this trade issue. The latest which I find so funny because my business being involved a lot in US-Can trade, I know much more than you would assume and probably much more than you know yourself. You are a proof that partisanship (left or right) is destroying our democracy. On my side, I would have said the same thing if a Liberal, NPD or another other person saying that same sentence.
@@martinkirouac Sure and all Sheer said about the deal was"I would have made a better deal" well guess what, that was all the media decided to put on air. Both the PC and NDP have made extensive statements and most it is not aired. So the reason the statement is empty is because of what Noam Chomsky calls Concision done by the media. Only fools fall for this tactic.
@lilnetty2 Scheer is not the team player. When 49% of your team supports the assistant captain you don't turn your back to them. that's not being a team player. Scheer fails to play team sports well. It's Andrews way or no way.
Rick, you are wrong! Your show would be just as easy to do this year. What you said about the show, it being only Canadian is what makes me binge watch old segments on RU-vid. As an expat, I need my roots. All I hear about abroad is T***p. But he depresses me. Your show, even just watching reruns, puts a big grin on my face.
i wish more interviewers did this. just have fun ask questions, let the viewer decide on stuff. Rather than, being confrontational and trying to 'win' an interveiw.
@@peachlover8572 I actually kind of hate Power & Politics for the guests' relentless left wing bias, smarmy south central Canadian navel gazing, and completely derisive tone toward anyone outside the 4 Hateful Sisters (Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec, Montreal). But Vassy stays above the froth, actually explores all views in most issues, and is very fair in gathering actual facts and presenting informative stories. She must be very secure in her own mind, and genuinely intelligent to just gather and tell the story without the need to pretentiously become the focus herself. This would be a fascinating woman to have a long conversation with over a bottle of Ouzo!
@@russellewis3331 They are some right wingers like Jen Gearson, who I don't like and I find her to biased. To be fair I find Albertans and Quebecers to be super annoying. Also CBC in general is biased towards Ontario, what networks do you watch? I'm a liberal but I don't mind having a decent conservation with a decent conservative. I like Vassy, she seems to talk well with anyone; like Bernier.
Now that Rick Mercer is approaching middle age he might need a more cerebral pursuit as a human being. He should run for office. I'd make book on that.
@MercerReport I really hoped to hear your rants and watched the Report NOW.. so many Canadians, and many others outside of Canada, could use your insight for the current global political climate.
Dam. So what does it say I already cancel my cables years ago, and I am still watching PnP on youtube? Should I get new videos games and join the crowd? I am always impressed that Rick Mercer can lighten the mood and still delivery his message on almost every issues.
Does this remind anyone else of that scene in “You’ve Got Mail” when Kathleen and Frank are watching his interview on TV and it’s obvious that they’re totally into each other?
I agree with Rick's Trump perspective. Trump is the best thing that could have happened to Justin Trudeau, who can do no wrong while Trump is in power. Ford didn't get voted in, Wynne got voted out. I'll disagree on one point in that Sheer is the face of Canadian conservatism, not Ford. Trudeau being "vulnerable" equates to Trudeau being of little substance imo.
Doesn't matter how hard you try to pretend that there is no world outside the CBC bubble, thanks to the Internet, there is a proof that there actually is. If someone likes to find out about the world without looking through the CBC screen, they are free to do that. I know that this thought scares a lot of people in our Government, and that is why they keep the Canadian Brainwashing Corporation in power.
@@saxytb Good luck with your angry myopic Canadian Brightbart view of the world. It's just sad to see how much negative energy is spent by your kind. Only "happy" when you see something negative happen to those who don't agree with you.
dany richard Those are your words, not mine. What is it that I or “my kind” are doing that makes you think that we are only happy if something negative happens to the ones we don’t agree with? Your statement can’t be farther from the truth. My point is that CBC and our Government are abusing our money and our trust. They are also abusing the weakness and the insecurity of the recent immigrants to get them scared of the Canadians, and make them believe that if you have a different opinion it means that you want harm on someone. Well sir, that is exactly what the Conservatives are afraid of and fighting against. Just stop for a moment an think who is the fear monger here. I will give you a hint: the third, the second and the third letter of the alphabet.
@@saxytbYou may not be part of the majority here but If you have a look at the majority of the comments here, it's 80% CBC haters who make wild claims such as yours without anything to back it up. Personally, I prefer a balanced news organization without being driven by money and fear mongering like a Fox News and funded by tax dollars. And before you start accusing the CBC of being a leftist propaganda machine, let me laugh in advance. It's just a sad minority with a conspiracy theory and I've seen (only snippets mind you) of the RU-vid right wing Canadian news channel (forget the name of these wannabes) and it's cringeworthy. But if you have a link to back up your claims, I'll keep an open mind. Perhaps they are on the wrong side of a few issues. But overall I'll stick with good old boring ethical CBC.
I liked this 👍🏻 I understand what Rick was saying about listening to multiple sides of the spectrum, but I’ve listened to all sides and I’ve come to a similar conclusion as Rick. Except I don’t know why he didn’t include more in Trudeau lol. Maybe he was just being nice haha 😆
Conveniently didn't mention Bernier at all. Seems like the CBC might be shitting their pants a little. Max has a solid chance at getting some seats next year.
Grimey politicians and their slick big biz supporters/funders are right on track we're almost dead. Big pharm and govt please don't love us so much. The Shermans such good upstanding loyal voters. I do appreciate RM brand of love.
Whipped by Trudeau? Can't stay on CBC and have an honest opinion, can you? Numerous rants on Harper. One rant where you were gently critical of Trudeau and "poof". Why can't you criticize, now?
