Two US Air Force (USAF) C-5M Super Galaxy aircraft arrived at Prestwick on the 11th July 2018 to drop off personnel, vehicles and equipment in preparation for Donald Trump's visit to Scotland on the 13th July. This video shows both of the C-5M Galaxy's that visited Glasgow Prestwick Airport that day landing, taxying to the apron, unloading and later departing. Look at how quickly they get off the ground on takeoff too! They were heading for RAF Lakenheath, UK and Ramstein Air Base, Germany respectively.

Little or no load for any aircraft equals a much shorter takeoff. There are C-5 videos on YT that show the other extreme - heavy load, engine runup while standing on the brakes, straining engines, slow acceleration, and a lonnnng takeoff roll, like this one - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1Psty8yCewc.html&ab_channel=dasspr

Looked like they rotated in about 4 plane lengths! Great job! They were nearly back up in the clouds before they crossed the boundary fence. I'll take that performance boost of the M over the trademark whine of the As and Bs. They used to upgrade these at the plant near my house so I got to see C5s flying fairly regularly. Same plant that built the F22 so I got to see them all fly before getting painted as well.

I flew twice in a C5 back in 1985 when I was in the Marines. We flew to Egypt in a military operation named Bright Star. We spent 21 days in Alexandria, out in the desert. We basically did nothing but clean weapons on a daily basis because so much dust. On the day b4 leaving we visited the pyramids. That made the trip worth it.

I’ve never flown the bird, but was invited to spend time in the newest simulator at my local AFR base (Thank You, Westover, for your humbling generosity!) To say it was challenging is an understatement, but it was a hell of a lot of fun. (Thanks to my CFI, Bob for the MUCH needed encouragement and assistance. He is a Gentlemen among Gentlemen!) For the record, it flies like a football field!!! (Thank you Bob, for NOT filling the cockpit with smoke! 😁🤣👍 He could have, you know!)

Wow, thank you so very much for this outstanding video, it brought back loads of memories of my time in the USAF. We flew on these Birds back in the early to mid 70's, then C-5A's, not the newer C-5M versions. They were and still are a brut, 4 engines putting out 50K pounds of thrust each and engine entrance opening of almost 3m in diameter, also quiet compared to their counterpart back then C-141. Thanks for the memories, you picked up a new sub!
