This repair was done on a Mercedes GL 550 but will be similar for 99% of all vehicles. If your truck doesn't stay closed, most likely your latch isn't engaging. A few simples steps to troubleshoot.
Dude thank you so much!! Took me about 20 mins and works great! The one I found on Amazon was only like $38...might not last forever but was a great fit and seems to be working fine.
I check out your video because I needed to do this to my GL 450. I take back that comment I made about it being a poor video. LOL the fact that you did it with one hand, DAMN. Good Video.
Just fix mine. It makes the sound as it trys to open, but does not open. Had to open from inside trunk handle. What I did I check the hook at the latch with the screw driver (as shown in the video). The latch locked. Then I simply push the remote handle to close it and it works. The latch release the hook, the trunk closes then locks. I open it several times and no problem. I believe that somehow one person push the remote trunk switch and other one outside pull the handle. That action make the sistem unable to open the trunk. It just make a noise as it try to open it, but nothing happen. To can open it, you have to go inside and release the cable handle, but when it closes it locks again so you stuck again :) I also put some wd inside the latch just in case :)
Thank you so much for this video very easy to follow. I have a situation with the new part. I installed the part just the way you suggested the trunk locked twice but once I put the cover on and went to close the door for the final time it stopped working I have tried all the suggested things to do and the part will not lock like the old one. Could there be anything that could trigger this part to stop working? I have notified the company but there is no number and they are in China waiting for a email response to see if they will replace part. PLEASE HELP THANK YOU Sabrina
How hard was it to do fr? Mine was $60 on eBay, still waiting on that slow boat from China to get to the states. My buddy took my old (SLK) latch off, but I'm hoping with the help of a this video, me n my BFF can do it ourselves... Cross your fingers, and wish us luck! 💕🙂
@@kimberlyharshfield8629 it took no time. Hardest thing was to get the plastic truck cover off with all the plastic pop in, pop out screws😒 other than that. Two screws to take it out and pop the new one in. Replace the plastic tabs and was all good to go!
Our backup car was hit in the rear, and that rod the clutch is sitting on is bent in the direction sure inward the car trunk. As a result the trunk won't close, since it is missing the clutch. I'm planning to repair it myself. Can you give me advice, is it better to pull on the damaged part with another car or I can simply return it in the previous position by knocking with the hammer over a small heavy dolly? Thank you for the informative film.
Sorry for the delayed reply, I don't check youtube as often as I should. If you haven't worked on the car yet, I probably wouldn't use another car to pull on the hatch/trunk. If you can get to the inside and remove panels, I would try that first.
Thank you, I myself thought to try to starighten it with a hammer and dolly and they told me in Harbor Fright to remove the panel first. I didn't start to work on that problem, just gather information.
My 2001 ML430 trunk doesn’t latch by key and the central console button but opens with it (there is no electric push button on trunk of 2001 ML) . I have to close it manually by sliding that manual wire latch/unlatch button. Can someone help me understand what could be wrong with my lock or is it some electrical issue ?
I live in NYC and have the same problem. I ordered the latch online.Could you please help me replace mine???? I attempted to take off the plastic panels today and failed miserable. I am scared to attempt on my own and the dealership wants to charge thousands! Please help!
This is the issue I’m having and as much as I want say this was helpful, I just can. You to get a camera mount or something. It felt I was watching the Blair Watch Projact. Sorry guy, good info but poor video.
it is a poor video because he didnt show how to remove the latch and thats what it says the video is about not to take a look at the pieces lmao waste of time
