For almost two decades reggae legend, Eek A Mouse has been feuding with the family of the late Bob Marley. This video traces the origins of the bizarre quarrel that's still raging till today
I roomed with Eek A Mouse in Paraguay for a couple of weeks. My Paraguayan musician friend Bizarrazo introduced us. Yes, he had a lot of anger at the Marley family for, he said to me, ruining his tour in Brazil. Eek had a lot anger from a long time ago, too. I sincerely hope he is doing well. I am happy to see he is making music in Europe.
Maybe there's some unspoken beefs that Eek A Mouse has that he doesn't mention. I found it interesting that the hit song ended up being one with 2 American singers and not the song done with 2 Jamaican singers. There are a lot of politics that direct who becomes famous or not and what songs become hits or not.
I met Mouse in a bar last year in Rotterdam. He was down to earth , a gentleman and mixing with normal folk in the bar. More than can be said for the millionaire sellout Marley boys , driving sports cars around Miami and living in mansions. Maybe hes a bit crazy but Eek a Mouse gets my vote!!!
Well, they do live in million dollar estates. Stephen bought another one in the Florida area last year and you can see the house and property in the real estate listing.
@@DaveG425 once again I ask, what price should they live in? Should they live in the ghetto? I've never seen anybody complaining about how anybody spending their own money which they work hard for
I didnt say they shouldnt be living in a mansion. I am all for it. But facts are facts. The Marley’s are very wealthy and live in huge mansion estates.
Because They are like the popular kids in school who can behave horribly and people still kiss their butt. But if a non popular person did the same thing they would get dragged.
Well, he is right about the Grammy for Habakka pyramid because that shit was whack and Ziggy gave up on reggae a long time ago plus Damien’s recent album only had about three reggae songs in it 🤦🏽♂️
Before the confusion, it was all love. I feel like some people think they are bigger than others. Eek is a Reggae legend. Bob is a musical Icon! The Marley children are Reggae students to the game but have plenty power. I wish I had the money to make Eek stop telling people business, lol. When Eek talk about what happen “once upon a time” you should listen.
Couple of things to mentioned. Bob was NOT from Trench town. Nine Mile is where Robert Nestor Marley is from. And during his exile, Eek lived in Europe for a period of time … But that’s another story! His first hits were Creation and My Father’s Land were his first releases which he released using his real name in the mid 1970s. If I remember one of his school / college teacher’s produced the tracks. Hilton recorded for Joe Gibbs in the 1980s it should be mentioned whilst he singjayed with various sound systems… Ah wah do dem was not popular with the radio stations due to its slack lyrical content so he released Modeling Queen from his first ever album entitled Bubble Up Yu Hip. The still alive legend Linval Thompson produced those tracks for him on Linval’s label Thompson Sound in JA. Eek was actually on the Island label for a time as well and acted a small role in the flick new Jack City and Out For Justice. Believe me, Ripton is and has always been a colorful man! ‘’He no dun yet, believe me!’’
@@Wilcoranking Where i live it was considered part and parcel of dancehall not welcome on mainstream radio plus he did very little P.A work to promote the single outside of the normal marketing of this hit single. Radio land was bad back then and if you know, you know ‘bout Payola…
Both sides should admit by now that the feud is a great publicity stunt, especially for Mouse. Every Jamaican and Reggae fan loves a good little beef every now and then. Both a dem need to find Jah RasTafari for real.
What yu talkin bout stunt???? You only know half the story…as bob once said, half the story has never been told… It’s all those out there who think like you that only know half the 😊story.
I doubt that, they were friends, Mouse have real talk. I was always a fan of the Marley's.I buy any Marley tune on vinyl, i have stopped because of what I've seen them done with the industry, it's overpowering, I'm saddened.
@@music_warrior369 Why do you doubt that they were friends? They were both from the same general area and both in the Reggae music movement. I am not saying they were close friends but they knew each other and hung out from time to time. I feel you on the Marleys.
Ofcourse!! He's got the wrong colour as a confirmed argument! And you got the same colonial attitude as many people frozen in victim role thinking in colours. Externalisation. CW did a lot of great work, also the production of first album Grace Jones. Legendary.
The Mouse has, unfortunately, not learned the business and politics of music. Bob Marley was adept in music business and its politics, and I'm sure his children are well versed in that arena. The Mouse can never win this war. He just need to stay in his lane, drink coconut water, sleep and make great music for his fans. Jah love!
You yourself Eek a mouse on a video that I have seen with my own two eyes said crack cocaine killed Dennis brown. Stop clout chasing...Silence is golden
If your not in the music industry then you have no idea what the truth is ,, all yall can do is assume and post your opinions ,, but the truth soon come out ,,
I love a lot of his music, but the man's become da Freek a Mouse. I've bought his music since the the early 80's and gone to see him live many times. I just think he's gone around the bend. Everyone creates their own reality. His is not a happy one.
I've watched videos years ago regarding the Eek a mouse/ Marley family feud. My opinion is the mouse was certainly dead broke after returning from the USA and definitely strapped of cash.. Damian's promise (which wasn't legally binding by the way) was the only thing he could latch on to..And when expectations failed ...he railed at everyone related or acquainted to the Marley family...Ease off on the substance, Mousey 🐁..Just ease off...!!!!
Ras n Ras suppose to speak truth n that truth includes among demselves…if u a bash Eek-a- Mouse, wonder wat ur views r on what was done to the Barrett Brothers etal…when u tawking foundation, u tawking The Barrett Brothers…
@@pamelahart6145I agree. People tend to blow off certain people pain without listening carefully to what they are saying, I'm sure part of the accusations has good merit.
@@rasempress9724Hmmm deep, everyone is bashing the guy, but part of what he is angry about MUST have some merit.. it's like if the Marley can do no wrong.
The Marleys don't waste time. This is a power move they learn from their mother and stepmother, Dr. the Honourable Mrs. Rita Marley. They are too busy to respond to everything. Silence is a traditional power move🎉
The Marley kids had messed with the wrong man. Eek-a-Mouse went really hard and rough on them. The lowest one being calling Rita the ugliest girl that Bob could find in the Ghetto. That was below the belt.
@@TheMightyKingzuru I understand that, but the fact is that is not going make them any more ready to give him anything, quite the opposite... That's the action of an eediat
As a big fan of roots reggae I find the modern Marley music, including this song, completely unlistenable. It is all overproduced pop/rap/dancehall, so I really don't care what they do or argue about...
Not too mention the harm they have done to countless vintage reggae musicians through their replacement of 'the joint' radio slot with tuff gong radio on SiriusXM..pure greed and Babylon mentality
@@DaveG425 brand is definitely the right word for it..living off the old man's name and slapping his image on any crapp they can make a buck off. There's far better reggae been made in the last 30 years than what they produce, they definitely have better exposure though
You must be like 60+ years old. They are my generation and kept me on the right track in life as a kid with good uplifting music. That was what Bob wanted, he literally trained them to be what they are today. You must hate Bob.
I remember buying one of his albums. But after listening to it I took it back to the shop. I know he got famous. That was the only record I ever took back
4000 u.s for a big song like khaki suit ,big foolishness ,but it’s life ,people will always do you whatever to you when they thing you have no value or weak ,honestly I don’t listen to music like that anymore,it’s just too much greed
Eek A Mouse is at a crossroads in his life, is better he light a candle in the dark than cursing the darkness. Coming up against the Marley family, is like coming up against royal family of England, for real man. He is making himself look very silly, get his lawyer on the case. His best bet is to deal with the law, these problems are not solve with words of mouth, only by law. He sounds rather entertaining. They should have kept their side of the deal. But man too man is so unjust, you don't know who to trust. That's the reason why you should use pen and paper my brother. The days of making deal by mouth is gone. A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer; to every single song, sings because it has song to sing. There are no friend in this industry, it maybe hard to believe. Look at the friendship between Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated. Thank you for sharing.
@@9_9_13 Well, nuff respect to you, you're not walking around with your eyes closed. But don't tell me tell them in Jamaica, I'm from the UK and British Royal Family don't mean a damn thing to me. Because I'm black first, I don't around Bob Marley, Bob Marley. Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr, Dr Frances Cress Welsing, Dr John Henrik Clarke. Bob Marley father is a European, every single child is their father's seed. Life don't come from a woman, every single human lives came from a men. Bob Marley is the son of a white man, so the father so the son. Over stand? I'm a Rasta man, don't get it twisted. Selassie don't mean nothing to me, Selassie is Arab who was born in Ethiopia. Ethiopians are Christians and Jews, there is no links to Rastafari, Selassie was a Christian. Don't get it twisted, don't get me started. My comments was just lighthearted, you just got to know who I'm. You will never know sharp a sword is unless it's drawn from it's sheath, I'm a Rasta man 🤔 I believe in delusional mindset of Christian, feel free to call me a Jew if you want to, from the 12 tribes of Israel, not this one's 🇮🇱 they're Europeans, over stand? @@josephnuttn3600 I respect your opinion because your opinion is a true reflection of your mindset. But it doesn't mean I'm going to take any advice from you. You are going across like a bloody fools, I'm not a religious person. Religion to me is bull sh*t. If your oil was that good, you would keep it for yourself. I don't look up to one, I don't even look up to God. If when you see my father, you see me and if you see me you see my father. Why should I look up to him? When we're on the same level. You fools that make the so called Marley family, your Lords and personal saviors. Not me, I don't give a fuck if they live or die. They don't keep the food and drink on my table. They don't keep the clothes on my back, they don't keep the shoes no my feet. They don't keep the roof over my head, they're no benefits to me. My father grew up in the yard right next to Bob Marley in Trench town on 5th street so yes I have a right to speak on it and 2nd hand knowledge from someone who was there in the yard next door when they were recording the 1st songs before it went to the studio. Eek needs to stop embarrassing himself as he was given a golden opportunity and a feature by Damian on the album Jamrock ( while cash strapped)....I don't think the Marley's (not all) are as bad as he paints them
Well, not defending him, because he's obviously wrong, but he is a legend. If you are a neophyte who has never heard of him, that's your problem. Every serious Reggae fan knows his work.
.mess…’unnecessary, embarrasing feud’. ….when the Barrett Brothers had their court case going, was that ‘embarrassing’ n fi who…u need fi go siddung one side…tooooo many of our artistes have been robbed n sidelined ….heck, even the great TOOTS in this new century had to sue to get paid for Bam Bam..u know how long ago he did that song….i keep saying that the scene in the movie THE HARDER THEY COME, where the promoter ‘deals’ wid di fledging artist , it is an eye into the yaad music scene…still deh bout
@@ezaius2011 some DESERVE their slice….the Barrett Brothers certainly did…”Mr. Marley wrote and sang the songs and was the band’s soulfully charismatic frontman. Mr. Barrett arranged and often produced the music. He also kept the band organized during its constant touring, earning him the nickname Family Man - or, to his close friends, Fams. “Family Man was a genius,” Wayne Jobson, a reggae producer, said in a text message. “As the architect and arranger of Bob Marley’s songs, he took reggae to the stratosphere.”
What reggae album does the Mouse have that can better any of the Marley's music? Let us be honest. The grammys aside eek a Mouse aint at the same level. The rest let us, the fans decide who is great
I’ve met down and out people like him and they are always the ones hating on who is shining. The entire Marley Family is reggae royalty. Eek is just a servant. Just deal with it. And I know for a fact that Stephen is an og. So eek is lucky it was just words over the phone and not something much more serious. Don’t let the jah love vibe fool you, dem some rude boy Jamaicans about their money. Nothing wrong with that. Look at the poverty in JA back when reggae started and still now. Who want to live like that? So why hate on the Marleys brothers for being business savvy and continuing to spread their pops message and keep his dream alive? Its not exploitation. Its been a brand since Bob took off.
The Marleys have definite sold out beyond what was once thought possible. Selling their father's name on everything you can name. Considering every single reggae award is to the latest Marley child album. no matter how mediocre it is. Eek has definitely dropped in quality with his output, but there is a lot of fishy business going on in the music world.
