I appreciate him more now that he's gone than I did when he was here!! I know more about him, his music and abilities!! His passing has allowed so many people to come forward to speak. It's made a big difference.
Morris Hayes is so humble, real, articulate & a fantastic musician in his own right. His focus is steadfast on the music - he's actually the person I enjoy listening to most talking about Prince and the music. His stories are a privilege to hear - wish he'd write that book! Thanks Scott for asking such interesting questions and allowing Morris the space to answer. Prince is so missed.
If anyone can bring all together and preserve the legacy the way it should be preserved.. MOrris is the one.... He is very knowledgeable.. and wise... who respects the man and the legacy...
This interview has made me a new fan of Morris’. His humility, integrity and candor make him an outstanding model for young (and old) musicians and associates of any celebrity. We sorely need more people like Morris Hayes. Thank you.
Hours i could listen to his storys. He speak with so much love and respect about him. But in a very honest way. He 's a real cute, smart dude. Thanks for that and for love Prince as much as we do. PEACE and b Wild!!!
Morris Hayes is on point. His integrity and honesty is incredible. I wish he had been with Prince back in April 2015. #Npg4ever #MusicMatters #TheAprilSnowHasNotMelted
I think the lyrics that moved me the most from Prince songs was the song he wrote after he lost his baby boy. The song ‘Comeback’ is that song. I cry every time I listen to it or read the lyrics.
He’s so right on with that lyrical content piece. Sometimes you don’t know what Prince is talking about until 20 years later. You think you know but then, 20 years later, another puzzle piece locks in and you get more clarity. So many aha moments! You almost have to be fluent in Prince to get it. His metaphors, double entendres and wordplay are so unique to him.
Mr. Hayes! You nailed the part on how we all hope the estate handles the dissemination of Prince's music saved in The Vault....I absolutely hope they can see the validity of your words......they need you for sure to be a part of this project!!! Also, I always thought Prince was the greatest Lyricist/POET ever!!! I remember, as a teen-ager, beginning in the early 80's always getting the lyrics to his songs on paper....after that, really feeling the song....the music🎶 for each and every one....it's indescribable!!..... It's really good to hear these stories from those who were close to Prince and genuinely respected his artistry, but more so, as a man. In Mr. Hayes case....his friend.💜
Morris should write the script for the Prince movie. He knows so much . He really showed what Prince's personality was. How straight froward he was. How on top of his craft and his business. I would be the most accurate script
I actually wouldn't spend money on a movie about Prince unless it was written, or at least edited or reviewed and approved by, Mr. Hayes, Wally, Sheila, Jerome, and other early, long term members of his band. People that cared about him and looked out for him. You can tell when the industry puts attempts to put stuff together to sell and when something is coming out of Paisley Park or NPG.
If anyone can bring all together and preserve the legacy the way it should be preserved.. MOrris is the one.... He is very knowledgeable.. and wise... who respects the man and the legacy...
Another great interview with Mr. Hayes. I really wish Prince had children sounds like wanted them to leave his legacy with, all his great music. He was really a special person with such gifts from God. Thank you.
Love the Info and positive views thankyou so much Morris Love for one another and we still miss PRINCE but he,s in a better place now, love you thanks again.

The last time I saw you was in Chicago. Late 80's. You were in town visiting and on your way. Fast forward a few years and I see you performing with Prince and NPG on Rosie O'Donnell. It's been a long time but I was and am so proud to know you! Might not remember me but was just a little friend from Evergreen Plaza.
Mr Hayes is a good man, great player. I remember him leaning out the window upstairs chatting to us fans queing at the Brixton Academy in London '98. "Prince in there?" Yep. Something like that. I sometimes wonder if artists remember little exchanges like that. Fans do anyways.
I truly believe that anything Prince left in the vault that it has his blessing to one day be released, otherwise he would've destroyed the songs, videos, films and live recordings. Susan Rogers told a story of how after recording a masterful session he had her delete it all because he didn't want it heard again even though she thought it was a masterpiece. So, my attitude is if he saved it, he's cool with it one day seeing the light of day, even if unfinished. On The View, when asked he said he wouldn't release the music but after he was gone it would be by others. That's a clear example that he's cool with it all being released. My attitude as well is this, if Prince didn't want the vault recordings released in any way, shape and form, he would've written and crafted a will with an attorney and legal team he trusted. Since he didn't all bets are off in my opinion and all should be released to benefit the estate and further Prince's legacy.
I love and appreciate the sharing of experiences of being a part of the scene with one of the greatest. Not to be weird or anything... But there is a strange anomaly that happens at 55:01 of this video. Or maybe I am seeing things... Please check it out and comment if you see it 2!!!
I can only suspect... This one is tough to explain... I am glad that I am not the only one. Thank you for replying. I wonder if this video footage can be submitted for further analysis?
I heard that all the music in his vault was removed and moved to some storage place in California where they have climate control to protect the cassettes, which much of his music is stored on, and also to properly catalogue the material.
Loved the interview and honesty. That being said, I completely disagree with host Scott and Morris. I never liked the fact that Prince and the NPG recorded and especially performed the amount of cover songs that they did. And I know many people that feel the same way. We get a Prince album and go to a Prince show to hear PRINCE'S MUSIC. The last thing I want to hear at a show is Wild Cherry's "Play That Funky Music" or Sly or Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop..." or anything else. Prince had too much in his own catalogue to mess around with covers. While I think it's great that Prince and The NPG LISTENED and WATCHED those artists and songs on the tour bus to get inspired, they should've used that inspiration ON PRINCE'S SONGS AND ON MAKING NEW MUSIC, NOT on doing cover songs. Same with Prince having members of Sly and The Family Stone in his late 90s shows and performing Sly songs. NO! NO! NO! That's like Sly Stone getting members of The Revolution or the NPG in his band and performing a handful of Prince songs. Can you imagine that happening? Exactly. NO! The ONLY exceptions I would enjoy are like at Glam Slam when Prince and the NPG had Stevie Wonder on stage and they did a Stevie song TOGETHER. That's the only kind of exception FOR ME PERSONALLY. Otherwise, I just wanted to see Prince and The NPG do PRINCE AND THE NPG! Anything from the Prince vault is cool for them to have performed as well including songs he wrote for Sheila E, The Time, The Family, Vanity 6, Madhouse, etc.
With Morris saying what he said concerning if something happened to him who to look at. I guess he meant who to suspect . Prince became worth more dead than alive to some. He had complete control over all his music. It is so surprising that a man who fought for complete control over all his material died without a will.
