Introducing the Dry Palmer, a fly pattern that's remarkably simple to tie and stands out as one of the most widely used dry fly patterns in the Netherlands but is also popular in various other locations. Its popularity can be attributed to several factors, including its versatility in mimicking a variety of insects simply by adjusting the pattern's color and size.
While the brown variation is the most recognized, there are numerous other popular color combinations such as orange, black, tan, yellow, and olive. The general buggy appearance of this fly makes it a magnet for catching fish! What adds to its appeal is the ease of tying; crafted with just three materials, you can effortlessly whip up a box full of these flies in all your favorite colors and sizes in no time!
Whether you're fishing in the Netherlands or anywhere else, the Dry Palmer is a fantastic pattern to try out on your next outing!
Best,
Jesse R.

Would you mind adding the hook types you use in your videos. I love watching them and am new to tying so im trying to get a better idea of what all the hook styles are and the sizes you should be using for each fly(though i know they can be tied in many sizes)

We call that a Crackleback in Colorado, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Utah, Montana with or without the tail. Once they sink in rougher waters, you can fish them just like a Soft Hackle with the swing. Can be very effective in olive, black and purple also!

@@MrLSwanson After you put down a thread base, try adding a strand of green tinsel with gaps to show some thread, then wrap your hackle forward in the gaps exposing the green. Me and a couple buddies fish the White river in Arkansas a lot and that green flash showing up through the hackle is important to us anyway and our favorite recipe, though the others work well also! Have a great day!

This is amazing I was giving a fly the other day on the ice cause I drilled a couple holes for a guy who’s auger was broke. I caught a few perch on them. So now I need to try to make my own. Any suggestions for a guy who knows nothing about this?

Like it. A variation of this with peacock herl laid on the top of the fly is what some call a crackleback. #1 confidence pattern for me. Can be stripped like a streamer or swung behind a weighted point fly too.
