Thank you Davie, this is a beautiful simple fly. I love the hackle winding thru the wing and you taught me yet another trick.

Very nice and straightforward presentation. I learned something new with the deer hair and hackle head and will tie one of those flies in a larger size try it out for peacock bass (Miami, FL suburb) this morning.

Davie thank you for teaching me better tying of fly's. If i may be of assistance. To remove the squeak from metal onto all bobbins. Place a thin "plastic" in between bobbin and bobbin holder such as wide cellophane or celotape "masking tape plastic" Push onto spool both sides scissors trim outside and sharp blade to cut out the center hole this you may have to do twice each side. First take off labels on the bobbins will greatly help. This stops friction thus the squeaky sounds. Next : with a big thread hacksaw down aluminum bolt for the bobbin hole shaft to keep thread tighter and better spinning of threads. I do this on all persalls silk. Hope you find this information helpful Regards Phil.

Hi Mads Bachmann, I have attached a link to a Humongous which I would recommend and is in a style similar to the Frede fly, it's a great allround fly and can be tyed in most sizes.. All the very best Davie.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BG96diBbRYE.html

Hi Davie, can I ask a question about wax.. I bought Veniard wax, when it arrived I didn’t realize or expect it to be rock hard ? I thought maybe I have to heat it up to soften it, but surely it will go hard again as it cools.. can you advise please ! Thank you.. love your videos where would we be without them. !

Hi kingdom777866, I get asked a lot about the wax I use so I made a video on how I prepare and use it so I have attached a link to it for you to see...I would recommend though to just do a piece at a time and keep the main piece in a sealed bag so that it keeps in good condition as it can go dry...I'm glad you enjoy the videos and thank you for kind words..ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IN4N92G14Xg.html All the very best Davie..

Hi Davie. Starting fly tying at start of lockdown ('cos I needed a new hobby to do at home) having caught my first trout on the fly a couple of weeks before that. Love your channel but the whole experience has thrown up many questions; E.g. Do you ever float test your flies, especially when playing with new patterns? Does the presentation of the hook make any real difference? I.e. if a dry fly floats head down or should it be 'tail heavy"? I have followed some of your patterns, and I have played around and made some patterns of my own and caught on most of the patterns that I have had time to fish, so it can't all be bad. but I would like to improve my 'finesse". Thanks for all your efforts Davie, and I reckon you've prevented me from going stir crazy during these difficult times. Stay safe and tight lines.
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 3 года назад
Hi IDRIS, Over the years I've tried many new and wonderful materials some that worked really well and many others that didn't so I would certainly recommend tying a few up in different proportions to see how things go..Over the lockdown period I did spend a lot of time filming flies for RU-vid which I know many like yourself found them very helpful but it also helped me just as much as it kept me going too, and with all the kind words it was meant a huge amount to me... All the very best Davie..

@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 3 года назад
Hi Rowland, I have attached a link to a Corixa pattern I have on RU-vid that is a good pattern. I would also have to recommend a basic pheasant tail nymph too, it can be just as good as long as you fish it with small jerks like a corixa does when swimming and the fish will take it just the same.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F8jtgoR1uCg.html All the very best Davie

Whats difference does the squirel dubbin do in comparison to lets say seals fur?
@DavieMcPhail

Hi Ronan, The squirrel dubbing is shorter and finer as well as natural markings though seals fur it more translucent which also makes a great fly too as you know.. All the very best Davie
@Dreancaidi
@Dreancaidi 2 года назад
@@DavieMcPhail Indeed I do. I've used both but I get the impression some people use rabbit and Hare more for dries and seal for wets. I was wondering if there was any truth in this or whether you had a similar preference?
