I'm not really an artist, but I've had good success with pastels, so I'm going to buy some more supplies and continue the journey, experiment and see what I might achieve.

Pastels are great fun! Creating art is all about enjoying the process, so if you're having fun - then go for it! PS: You're an artist if you say you are - there aren't any rules to become an artist 😊

I get my paper from www.softpastels.com.au/pastel_paper/pastelmat/index.php - they have the best range of Clairefontaine Pastelmat in Australia (that is the only paper I recommend for pastels) I get most of my other art supplies from www.theartshop.com.au because they have a very large range and great prices! If they don't stock something you want, just email them because they can usually get most supplies ordered in for you 😊

How do you keep it from smudging as you go and when you are done?
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt 8 месяцев назад
I use a sheet of glassine paper (or the sheets in between the Pastelmat when you buy a pad) to rest my hand on while I'm working! You can also use a normal piece of paper but make sure you lift it and place it back down when you need to move it, rather than slide it across your drawing because that will smudge it! The glassine doesn't stick to the pastel as much so it's less likely to smudge when you use that When I am finished, all my artwork on paper go into acid free tracing paper pads in various sizes. So I just slot each artwork between each page - it keeps everything separated, they don't move around or smudge onto each other, and I store them flat inside the "Alex" drawers from Ikea (they fit an A2 sized tracing paper pad perfectly 😊) You can also frame your work if you have enough money/space to do that for every piece. You will need to use a mount/matting so the artwork doesn't touch the glass! Some people also just mount their work, without the frame, then store it inside glassine sleeves I don't actively sell my work, but when I do, I post it unframed because I don't trust shipping something that heavy, so I don't worry about framing it unless I am entering a show/competition locally 😊 Hope that helps!

Can you put pan pastels on watercolor paper
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt 8 месяцев назад
Sort of, but I wouldn't recommend it! You'd only be able to get 1 maybe 2 thin layers of pastel on watercolour paper because there isn't enough tooth in the paper to grip onto the pastel. This type of paper would also cause a lot of dust/fall off/smudging because it doesn't adhere as well as Pastelmat does It wouldn't be easy to add any pastel pencil on top of Pan Pastels on watercolour paper either So I guess it depends on what you are trying to achieve - if you want to add a few layers of Pan Pastel with pastel pencil on top (like all of my pastel artwork) then I would only recommend Clairefontaine Pastelmat - there are no other papers like it, unfortunately! 😊

Hi i have a question. I would like to ask it might be weird but still since i am new to art i think i should ask you . The thing is that my solvent has a different kind of colour at the bottom like something is settled at the bottom
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt Месяц назад
What kind of solvent is it? And have you used it with your coloured pencils previously? You may have better luck posting this question in a coloured pencil group on Facebook with a picture so people can see what you're looking at (it will make it easier than trying to describe it!) 😊

That's okay! You could even just find a photo of another animal with a blurry background that you like, then print out both photos and put them side by side to see if you like how they look together - then just draw the blurry background from one photo, and the animal from the other 😊

You are a good artist, but there is no way in h@ll that I could afford 14.00/mo. I'll have to go with others that are charging the 4-6.00/mo. If you ever drop your prices let us know. I'm disabled and on SS in the US already living in an rv so not many funds to go around. I would love to support you.
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt 4 месяца назад
That's okay, I completely understand where you're coming from which is why I still create all these free RU-vid videos as an option for people to watch! Unfortunately, I am also disabled and can't work a "normal" job so my tutorials are my only form of income. If I were to resort back to lower prices, I wouldn't be able to continue creating tutorials for the Academy or free videos on RU-vid either, as I'd have to find a different way of creating an income source and wouldn't have the energy or time to be able to create tutorials anymore (they take many, many hours to create) 😊
