As an Aussie myself (which I HATE to be THAT guy, but it's pronounced 'auzzie'), it's fantastic to see meat pies making it's way to the US. Much like how hot dogs are a staple of baseball games, when it comes to AFL games, the meat pie is a staple, especially with tomato sauce (aka ketchup) on top.

Fun fact: the meat pie is the worlds first fast food, it harks back to the dark ages, but they didn't eat the crust, and they had no idea how old they were. The pie from a servo pie warmer is nothing.......

I ate Meat Pies everyday while I was shooting a Cable Series in New Zealand. My four favorite pies were "Steak & Oyster", "Curry Chicken", "Lamb & Gravy", and "Steak & Kidney". All of them were Moist & Delicious, even when I bought them at a stand, or a fast-food place, or even from a gas station's 'Hot-Case'. But in the United States I could never find a good one. So - Thanks.

My favorite pie is blueberry cream pie! Sean told me he likes Cream Pies too but the ones he described didn't really sound like food to me at all 🤷‍♀

Those Pies are twice the size of the ones I got in New Zealand (which were rectangular & a bit taller). But when you bit into those pies the sound alone told me that they were perfect. I tried to make meat-pies myself when I returned to the states, but I could never master all 4-Elements that make for a great meat-pie: 1). The Crisp-Crunchy Crust - 2). The Paper-Thin Layers of Moist Pastry under the crust that's like the inside of a Croissant (& gooey where it touches the gravy) - 3). The Filling, which usually has Meat (and/or Organ Meat) - Seafood (mostly shellfish) - or a Mixed Stew of Meat & Veg. And 4). The Flavorful Gravy inside which ties the whole Pie Together making it Sumptuous. That's a lot to get right, and the Folks Down-Under do it Masterfully.

You found out you must have pies & sausage rolls HOT. You got the eating style just right.Don't forget sausage rolls need LOTS of sauce,NOT ketchup.

They look like perfect pies.. Pies are a staple in Oz, you might have one for lunch.. We keep a pack frozen in the fridge... But a great grab and go meal.. The pastry case can be pre-baked (half cooked) before they fill them..

I must have eaten a million meat pies during my life I had at least two every day of my working life. Now I'm retired I don't eat so many but I still like one occasionally . Plain steak or steak and cheese are my go to's.😛😛

Pies and sausage rolls are the go to for my kids lunch when I am too lazy. My friend makes them and sells them. I chuck them in the air fryer.. so good

Those looked delicious! I had Culver’s chicken noodle soup for dinner after a long day of working in the rain. It hit the spot.

That's why we eat them in the winter at the footy. I'm from Melbourne, and a typical pie from the bakery has different pastry, it's not so puff. This likely because of the Vietnamese/French influence. I prefer that thinner pastry... except when the arse drops out of it while you're trying to eat it. BTW, you need sauce, Aussie style tomato sauce.

I prefer savory so much more than sweet. Samosas are kind of a mini pie. That whole lineup sounded great

As a pedantic aside.....you mentioned "Shepherds Pie" & many people don't know of a difference with "Cottage Pie"........ Cottage pie uses ground beef...... Shepherds pie uses LAMB........ The clue is in the name.

I am back, and re watched a bit of it and forgot to add. It's either Sweet or Savoury pie, not Sweet or Salt pie. lol Plus the pies there are expensive. You are paying $13.75 AUD for a pie and we pay from $4.50 ($2.95 USD) to $8.50 AUD ($5.50 USD) for a pie.

Now you won't drive past and just look at that shop...every bakery in every town in Australia makes meat pies 15 ,000 towns + all suberbs in all city's ..that's alot of pies ..real man's food.😊they are about $6 for the best pies in Australia from a bakery ..all supermarkets have fresh and frozen about 5 top brands a few cheaper ones but even the supermarkets brands are $5 for 4 pies are pritty good ..all pies in Australia are 100% Australian beef..or chicken..and New Zealand have theirs..

The best pie? It’s Bang Bang Pie & Biscuits in Chicago. And their best flavor is Nectarine Raspberry Buttermilk 😏

My favorite savory pie is the Chicken Pot Pie at Pie 'N' Burger in Pasadena. My favorite sweet pie is the Lemon Supreme at Baker's Square. Unfortunately, there are no Baker's Squares in California anymore. I think they're all in the Midwest now.

Australia definately didnt invent meat pies apparently they have been around since the ancient Egyptians. The meat pie came to Australia with the the arrival of the first fleet in 1788 the first celebration they held in the new colony included meat pie . . They became an obsession and pie carts started appearing after the first steam powered flour mill opened in Sydney in the very early 1800s. They spread to the other colonies crossed the ditch to NZ which was once part of the colony of New South Wales.. Aussies on average eat 270 million meat pies a year kiwis eat 60 million and based on population size that means the kiwis actually eat a few more per person.. The main difference between the english meat pie and the Aussie version was that the Brits usually made them bigger and ate them in slices. Like the Cornish miners with their pasties hand held pies were an easy way to carry your meal to work. Their real advantage comes at footie matches you can have a pie in one hand and a beer in the other. Paying USD$8 for a pie is pretty steep seeing as how they make them on their premises its not as if they are importing them.

A favourite pie in our home has been Beef in Red Wine Gravy. Along with Roast Lamb with Roast Veggies, like having a roast dinner in a pie. Yes the pies are piping hot and you didn't do the blowing it to cool it down in your mouth, because its too hot. Sauce on the top of the pie, or inside...you are the second lot of people from US that puts it on the side. I like Pasties. There are Pies, Sausage Rolls and Pasties.

Glad you love the pies. Problem is that most OZZIES eat the plain pie. Basically what you would call ground beef with "gravy" not American gravy and biscuits but gravy made from the fat from the beef and flour.

I want 2 of those AND a six-pack of Stout.... If I don't finish them, they look like they may reheat well!

Spent a lot of time with the Australian Army years ago and never had a meat pie. They did eat a lot of beef. Like every meal was beef. After 3 months we were pretty tired of it. That looks or acts a lot like a patsy? I’ve only had one of them and I wasn’t impressed.
