Donne biriyani is a local Karnataka style of Biriyani and not from Maharashtra and is cooked in the naati style in Kannada or village style of cooking where all the masalas and spices used are grounded and not grinded to retain the taste and properties of the spices. The owner of shivaji hotel is a local settled in Bangalore from many generations but is a maratha. It is a blend of regional and maratha style of Biriyani you can say. Another famous local biriyani has to be the local Muslim style biriyani or the dakhni biriyani that you would get at the Taj restaurant in shivaji nagar. Bangalore has to be the only city in India where you would get all types of Biriyani from all the southern states including the rest of the country
Donne biryani name comes from the Donne which literally translates to "dron" which is a leaf bowl (not specifically banana leaf). Shivaji military style biryani was a biryani style cooking developed by shivaji's (king) army while on their expeditions.
@@CsfxPy It's actualluy jonne biryani later become donne don't know correct reason.Shivaji setup only hotels like structure for their army didn't invent sny biryani
@@vigsna correct and correct, shivaji didn't invent anything, it was his army staff who used that style of cooking for making biryani which spread into nearby regions Same goes for sambhar or sambar which was named after Sambhaji (Shivaji's son) but it is still not known if he cooked it or his royal kitchen chef
Shivaji military hotel uses bullet rice variety for biriyani and Nagarjuna uses basmati or long grain rice for biriyani... Both definitely have different vibes.. But please do a video of 'dose' of Bangalore if you guys are still here ... Thank you for coming to Bangalore..
Guys, just because the name of the hotel is Shivaji, the biryani is not Maharashtrian. You won’t get this kind of biryani in Maharashtra. This is Kannada, Naati style biryani. Perhaps you can give accurate information. 🤦🏻
Head to Shivaji Military Hotel established in early 1930 is known for its authentic Donne Biryani. It will ride you through the legacy of authentic Maratha cuisine. Donne Biryani's origin dates back to the 17th century when Maratha soldiers craved meat food, Donne biryani lends its name from the areca nut palm cups that it's served in. Cooked with short-grain seeraga samba rice, a generous quantity of mint leaves, and a unique technique of marinating the meat with curd and spices, Donne biryani will leave you craving for once more. It is green in colour and traditionally served with boiled egg, raita, and brinjal curry.
What is going on here 😂? Donne biryani is called Maharashtrian biryani (and that too in Bangalore) and Nagarjuna Andhra biryani is called Hyderabadi biryani. Being a Hyderabadi settled in Bangalore (and a biryani lover), i am totally offended. God save the world and the internet 😂 (I have 8 more mins to watch!)
I think i cant be anymore offended. Calling donne biryani as Maharashtrian biryani and calling Nagarjuna's Andra biryani as Hyderabadi Biryani 😒 and its sad to see that people are still not educated that Meghana's is not Biryani, that is not how biryani is cooked, its some flavoured rice with chicken/mutton gravy. I really want people to understand this.
Exactly. Video proves that Just because saying something confidently will not make it the truth. No research or homework done on biryani types by the team. Disappointed.
I remember my days in Bangalore, and the 1st time I went to Meghna and had their mutton biryani and chicken curry!!!! I was lost oh my god ..the taste is still there in my mind! Amazing!!❤😍
11:29 A lot biryani connoisseurs say that Meghna's special chicken biryan is not "actual biryani". Its more like fried rice with chicken gravy on top. I am not very particular about the terminology. My taste buds control me. If someone calls a veg biryani = pulao, but it tastes amazing, i ll not complain even one bit. Same is for Meghna Foods for me. i am aware that this is perhaps not the tastiest or the most authentic biryani in Bengaluru, but its my favourite because I like the taste. This is my every Sunday's fix lol. What you get at Nagarjuna fits much more into the cooking style of a traditional "biryani". aka chicken par cooked, rice parboiled, and then finish cooking together..which is how a lot of biryani's are made. While in meghnas, rice is cooked completely, gravvy/chicken is cooked completely and just mixed later. So yes, different styles.
@@snehajha7373 I am not really sure. All i know is that they cook it separately from rice. The exact procedure i m not sure. However from the texture it does feel like the chicken is fried/roasted before mixing with the gravy.
Ok tested, khaane aaye the Bangalore Biryani, lekin Hyderabadi/Maharastrian khaake nikal gaye. As Bangaloreans we know, we have made both those places our own, but Bangalore Dakhni biryani and Hoskote Dum Biryani you were supposed to try.
Bro, watch carefully, they put up a story on where the best Biryani is available in Bangalore and Bangaloreans suggested these 3 places (top suggestions). So maybe your own Bangalore people don't like your own Bangalorean Biryanis? Food for thought 🤔 😂😂
@@trailblazers4311lol bro....putting people in their correct place. Some people in Bangalore just have to comment unnecessarily about the authenticity when they themselves are clueless. Why can't they chill n have a sense of unity among fellow Indians is beyond me
You missed a lot of joints: 1. Bangalore Shaadi Biryani from Sharief Bhai and Taj Hotel 2. Dindigul Biryani at Hoskote Anand Biryani 3. Best Hyderabadi Biryani in Noon Biryani, HSR and Hyderabadi Biryaani House, Victoria Layout 4. Ghee Rice and Mutton Sukhi Phal from Madeena Hotel, Jayanagar.
Shadi ki Biryani and Hotel Chicha Ba Taj's Biryani are the best Biryani in Bangalore..... You try the end number of Biryani across Bangalore but these are the best 👍.........
Happy to see you here. Always wanted to see you guys here. Welcome!!!! Guys please don’t leave Bangalore without having Bangalore’s Masala dosa (CTR) idli vada (Brahmins' Coffee Bar) and filter coffee in any *sagar restaurant
Yeah but it's not banana leaves. Pattal ki baat kr rhe aap. What I found interesting was the the bowl made of leaves as called dunne here in Himachal not Donne though but kinda similar even though not made out of banana leaves again
You guys missed out on the stuff from Frazer town like Chichabas Taj and The Deagh. Maybe check it out the next time. The Jeera Sambar rice used there soaks in the flavour well.
Vidhyarthi Bhavan's Dose is not as good as it used to be I think trying at Taaza Thindi as well is something that would be worth. And definitely other small joints in city have really nice dose.
Overrated crap Vidhyarthi Bhavan, last time I tried dosa was half cooked and the waiter served me with a glass which had ink stains inside. Bangalore locals have too much pride in their language and food, that's the sole reason they support such a crap of a restaurant. Such a huge brand name restaurant making shitloads of money feeding on the pride of mediocre kannadiga people and they still couldn't afford to hire a cleaning staff who pulls off the job efficiently. 😂
There is a huge difference between Andra Biryani, Hyderabadi biryani and Donne biryani. Its not that complicated to differentiate as they name it very clearly. very minimal research guys. Great video otherwise love the vibe
Thanks for sharing 😊 If you have more bandwidth to try more biryani joints in Bangalore , here is your list: 1. Gowdru hotel biryani 2. Hyderabadi biryani 3. Sendhoor biryani 4. Ambur biryani One comment on the Donne biryani piece. Shivaji military hotel serves north Karnataka biryani, it’s not Maharashtrian
Satyaaaaaa, I love you..❤❤ You're the true heart gem of a person ❤❤ But today I'm also nostalgic to see you guys again.. The old Ok Tested vibe❤ Please bring back Bhattacharyya also and Sonali ❤❤
Though Bengaluru offers Biriyanis from all across India but my personal fav biriyanis @ Bengaluru are ❤😋 : Chicken Donne Biriyani House -Mutton Donne Biriyani, Kerala Tifin's - Kizhi Malabar chicken biriyani and Shareif Bhai's - mini biriyani combo( chicken n mutton ) with eggs red chilli tawa fry ❤...I luv the samba rice that i never had b4 ...I guess I digest it better than basmati rice !😋😋
Let them not visit our hanumathu hotel these ppl have not researched even a single bit about the byrani. They are saying shivaji hotel byrani as the maharashtra style byrani just beacuse of the name. Our mysore is a heritage city, this ppl come and they say our culture as someone's culture. Even I am OK tested fan, but this is not correct.
@@naveensk8561 May be. Obviously it's no where close to barawachi or arsalan(they are special Biryanis). But they have a unique product with a very good price point. Their taste and quality is consistent. In my experience anyone who dosn't mind south Indian Kadi pata taste loved Meghna biryani
The taste of Bangalore biryani is quite consistent across different places. In Andhra Pradesh and other states, biryani has varying regional tastes, and it's interesting to explore the differences. The quality of biryani is excellent in these regions. However, in Bangalore, even though I currently live here, I have noticed little variation. The same spices seem to be used everywhere, giving it a consistent taste.
1. Hyderabad biriyani house(green board) 2. Biriyani zone. 3. Hyderabad chefs. These 3 are one of the best and authentic Hyderabadi biriyani in Bengaluru. Sadly you guys haven't shown even one of them.
Love the enthusiasm for Andhra food in Bangalore! But if you think it's great here, wait till you try it in Andhra Pradesh itself-where the flavors are even more authentic and the spice hits differently! 🔥🍛
I don't know whether Meghana's Biryani should be called as biryani may be because of it's serving style, but its 100% true that their Paneer version is way better than chicken...
Off the track recommendation but the flavours are top notch and you won’t regret it.Mandi Biryani Karama restaurant, Frazer town. It’s mild on spices yet so flavour full that it’s gonna stay with you for a while😊
If you are still in Bangalore try a small hotel in BTM Layout. It’s called Godavari hotel, an Andhra style hotel. But their boneless chicken special biriyani is yum and the taste is almost similar to Hyderabad style biriyani.
These kind meat and rice is given in lowercaste functions and temple festivals served in leaf cups for easy disposal of plates. Its only recently come to Karnataka from Tamilnadu and called Biryani.
Yeah that's for sure, khaana khaane se jyaada time table milne se lag jatha hai, but all that effort disappears when u start eating biryani at shivaji military hotel, its truly 10/10❤❤❤❤
Finally!!! Ok Tested To B'lore. But so unfortunate u guys came when I'm away from B'lore. Would've loved to track u guys down n meet u. Long awaited video. Ps. If u r still close by please do visit Mysore if possible. Also has great culinary. Highly recommended. 1. Mylari Masala Dose 2. Hanumantu Pulav 3. Kajjaya Mane 4. RR Biryani Must try.
Actually , Bangalore is famous for its veg break fast joints like CTR , MTR , Veena stores , vidyarthi Bhavan , Brahmin coffee bar .. please make a video covering all famous places
Fyi fun part is best Maharashtrian style biryani you get it Bengluru Best curry (Sambhar ) was first prepared for Maratha empire prince Sambhaji raje and is from Tamilnadu And best rice dish in north Rajma chawal that rajma was given by Rajmata Jijabai to the farmers to cultivate which is called Wagha ghevda in Maharashtra which got famous in Punjab and named after Rajmata Jijau RAJMA..( it is said that it was gifted to Rajmata by mexican visitors… Interesting fact starting from Grandmother Jijau , son of jijabai Shivaji maharaj and (grand son)Sambhaji maharaj has not only given Swaraj but food that is famous for centuries
I am from KOLKATA stay in Bengaluru but I love Ambur Biriyani i think you should have try Ambur too.. i don't prefer Hyderabadi biriyani in Bengaluru, my favourite Biriyani Hyderabadi biriyani in Hyderabad, but in Bengaluru Ambur is my fav. Rank 1.HYDRABADI BIRIYANI 2. KOLKATA BIRIYANI 3. AMBUR BIRIYANI.

Have Ghee Rice & Mutton Sukkha in Shivaji Military Hotel. Its next level.
These are the kind of videos i used to watch ok tested for.....i do not enjoy the new things they keep trying roasts, lengthy overloud discussions.....so i am really glad watched this thoroughly and enjoyed. I have been skipping all the other videos from this channel mostly these days
Alright, team, fantastic job on this video! But let's dive deeper into the soul of what biryani truly is, especially here in Bangalore. Biryani is not just a dish; it's an emotion, a tradition, and a story passed down through generations. It’s made with heart and a deep understanding of its roots. Let’s break it down, starting with the rice. The essence of Bangalore biryani lies in the use of Jeera Samba rice or Ambe Mohar rice-small, fragrant grains that bring out the true aroma of biryani, pilaf, or pulav. Now, whether you call it Shivaji Military Hotel biryani, Bengaluru pulav, or anything else-these names are just labels. What really matters is the rich history and the beautiful blend of flavors. This style of biryani has its origins with the people of Karnataka and Maharashtra. They crafted a unique base using green coriander, mint, methi leaves, and green chilies. Sometimes, you'll even find green peas added, giving it that extra burst of flavor. The history behind this biryani is as rich as its taste. It’s said that this style was brought to life by Vyankoji Bhosale, from the Thanjavur Maratha kingdom. This lineage stretched from Maharashtra all the way to Thanjavur, and similar biryani can be found all the way to Tamil Nadu-especially in Thanjavur. Here’s a bit of history for you: Vyankoji, the half-brother of the legendary Maratha king Shivaji, was the first Raja of Thanjavur from the Bhosale dynasty. He took over Thanjavur in April 1674 and ruled until 1684. During his reign, his brother Shivaji invaded Gingee and Thanjavur, making another brother, Santaji, the ruler of the lands to the north of the Coleroon. Vyankoji even allied with Chokkanatha of Madurai to fend off an invasion from Mysore. So, when we talk about biryani in Bangalore, it's not just about taste-it's about tradition, culture, and a rich history that lives on with every bite. 2. Nagarjuna Biryani - The story of Nagarjuna began over four decades ago, when a humble agriculturist from interior Andhra Pradesh took a bold step that would forever change Bangalore's culinary landscape. In 1984, N. Krishna Reddy, a proud son of Nellore, set up the first Nagarjuna restaurant on Residency Road. With little more than his deep passion for food and an unwavering belief in the wonders of traditional Andhra cuisine, he introduced the city to a new world of flavors. What made Nagarjuna truly special was Mr. Reddy's vision of bringing together two distinct culinary traditions: the fiery and aromatic Hyderabadi cuisine and the earthy, rustic flavors of Andhra Pradesh. By combining these two rich culinary heritages, he created something entirely new-an experience that would become synonymous with the name Nagarjuna. In the early days, Bangaloreans knew Nagarjuna not for its biryani but for its legendary meals. It was here that Bangalore was introduced to the magic of gunpowder-a spicy, flavorful blend that quickly became a staple on every plate. Their meals were an instant hit, especially with the long-grain raw rice from Kurnool, which paired perfectly with their famous pappu dal, a spinach and dal mix with a tantalizing tamarind tinge. And let's not forget the iconic chilli chicken, which gained more fame than even their biryani in those early years. But as time passed and Bangalore’s palate evolved, so did Nagarjuna. While their meals remained a beloved favorite, it was post-2000 that their biryani began to shine. The blend of long-grain rice, aromatic spices, and tender meat captured the hearts of many, solidifying Nagarjuna’s place as a biryani destination in Bangalore. Today, Nagarjuna is more than just a restaurant; it’s a culinary institution. It represents the fusion of two distinct cuisines, the introduction of new flavors to a city, and the enduring legacy of a man who dared to bring the taste of his roots to a new home. 3. Meghna foods - ITS HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH THAT BONELESS CHICKEN BIRYANI. SO if you ask who is the father of Biryani then here is the apt answer .but as food fanatic this is their history - Meghana Foods is a well-known restaurant chain in Bengaluru, renowned for its authentic Andhra cuisine, particularly its biryanis. The first Meghana Foods outlet was established in Koramangala in 2006, and since then, the brand has expanded to five locations across the city, including Indiranagar, Jayanagar, Marathahalli, and Residency Road. The restaurant has gained a loyal customer base thanks to its consistent quality and rich flavors. Meghana Foods is celebrated for its signature dishes like the Meghana Special Chicken Biryani, Mutton Biryani, and Andhra-style starters like Chicken 65 and Chilli Chicken. The chain is popular among diverse groups, from college students to corporate professionals and families. This is my version of next time you biryani make sure you get answers to these and then do your videos... Biryani is widely believed to have its origins in West Asia, with multiple theories surrounding its introduction to India. A popular legend asserts that the Turk-Mongol conqueror Timur brought a precursor of biryani with him when he arrived at the frontiers of India in 1398. This version of history suggests that the dish evolved and adapted over centuries, blending local Indian spices with the original recipe to become the biryani we know today. However, if you ask someone who truly understands biryani, they'll tell you that the origins, stories, and romantic adjectives are secondary. For them, biryani is defined by three essential elements: Fragrant Rice: This could be short-grain, golden sella, or the renowned 1121 Basmati rice. Protein: Ideally, veal, prawns, or beef should be the choice, followed by mutton and then other meats. Water: This is the game-changer. The right proportion of water is crucial-typically, 2 liters for 1 kg each of meat and rice, along with 500 grams of vegetables and 10 grams of whole spices. The science lies in balancing these ingredients perfectly, making water the unsung hero of the dish. As for what "biryani" stands for, let's simplify it: BIRYANI could be abbreviated as "Balanced Ingredients, Rich Yields, And Nourishing Integrity.,, happy eating...
You guys really had to try the Malabar biriyani from Paragon Restaurant in Bangalore, it's a restaurant ranked 11th in the world legendary list for restaurants and biriyani is their star dish. It would have added another kind of tingle to your taste buds. Hope you get to taste the tingle soon 😊
I am from kolkata and this is coming from a race of people who prides themselves with the best Biriyani in the world, you should have tried Alpha Biriyani. It is the best Chicken Biriyani I have tested in Bangalore.
