I love this skill a lot, it sucks it was banned but I hope it was more so for the safety of the gymnasts. I can tell with your dedication and hard work that you will be able to get this in no time! (But still remember patience is a virtue.) I hope your hands heal soon. ❤
You should whip your legs in forward swing when you grasp the bar. I noticed your legs stay back which pulls you down too strongly. When gymnasts do release elements they never just hang afterward, they keep the swinging motion going which translates the downward force through the swing. Just whip those legs forward and you get it no problem. Another tip, the sooner you grasp, easier it is to maintain the grip. If youre closer to horizontal than vertical when regrasping, higher chances! Try a faster flip and open sooner
One thing we climbers use is to bend your elbows after grabbing to help slow your momentum, instead of being straight armed and having it all translate to your grip strength and skin not ripping off ur hands
I feel like I could do it. I’m not a gymnast but I can flip (backflip and back handspring, front flip, and side flip), and I can even do a handstand and get into a handstand without using my legs at all as if they was amputated so I think I have the skill of the flip and potentially the upper body strength to hold myself. Not saying I’d get it first try cuz it’s a foreign movement to me (not entirely tho considering I have good upper body strength and can hold myself up cuz I’m also a Floridian who grew up on rope swings and doing gymnastics tricks in those too into water, and sometimes having to jump to the rope and hold myself up despite being soaked
This was really funny to watch.btw you know the joke that’s actually going to rip your hands even more. Just to let you know in the future because it’s meant to make your hands less sweaty so you can grip more into the bar. Therefore it will break your hands and turn into calluses.:)
I would barely be able to get up on the bar and would probably have to hang onto it like a sloth and then awkwardly pull and heave myself onto it only to fall off and redo it, then I would have to uncomfortably squat on the bar while clinging onto it for dear life with my hands and yeet myself into the air backwards and pray I don‘t somehow manage to break every bone in my body. And that, random person who might read this, is how utterly *bad* I am at gymnastics, even though I did it for like two years as a kid.
Keep in mind your body goes whereb your head goes. You need to be more upright when you start to flip. Gymnasts have momentum from previous swings to do it. They can just release and flip. Since you aren't doing that you need to change your angle. Watch the video, you are leaning before your feet leave the bar. Therefore you're flipping more OUT when you need to be UP.
The reason he is not making it is not because the bar is bouncy it's because he can't grip it. He needs grips inn order to catch it. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it will be 100x harder to catch.
It actually got banned because the move requires you to stand on top of the bar. Standing on top of the bars is the banned portion because now that the bars are farther apart (used to be closer when this skill was done) the emphasis of a bars routine is about fluidity and smooth transitions, so stuff that interupts that got banned since it just doesn't look good in routines these days. The safety wasn't the main concern, a later gymnast in the 80s actually added a full twist to it as well.
Ok first I do girls gymnastics and 1 rip is nothing I got 3 rips in one day and my events are only for 45 minutes+I have a sprained arm and I am a leave 4 gymnastics so take that
