i'm malaysian, i am a durian hater when i was young but after i grew a little bit older, i fall in love with durian. Trust me, once you a durian lover, you will never be a durian hater again. A durian hater can become a durian lover, given time but a durian lover will never become a durian hater. So......becareful rebecca
Great edit guys! Loved seeing the day from a different angle. OMG Rebecca your face after you took that first bite 😆😂 That was such a fun day you two- so glad you could be a part of your first durian eating experience!! Cheers, Sheena
Its because you just had small tiny bite on the surface of durian. It should be a big bite and the delicious taste would instantly be registered in your mind
I agree with you..when eating durians for the first time, you should bite the durians clove in half and bite it until you reach the seed and pull the durians clove and then munch it and thats how you eat durians for the first time..😁
Great video you guys. Rebecca's facial expressions are priceless. You definitely made me more excited to give Durian a try one day when we finally get to Asia. I love the crossover with one of my other favorite vlogs, Chasing a Plate.
Obligatory Traveler Thank you so much! It's so cool that you follow both us and Chasing a Plate haha. Eating Durian is a great experience, any plans on making your way to Asia soon?
We tried Durian for our first time when we were in Bangkok recently. We thought it was going to have a stronger taste. We liked it but probably need to try some different types. Well done guys! 😝😜
Jamesyboy Experiment Ye we thought ours may have been a bit stronger as well, excited to try some different varieties as well, only problem is they're not cheap!
Came across you guys by watching our friends (chasing a plate) video about eating durian! We checked out your other videos and loved it - totally subsribed! :-) Enjoy KL and see you around!! :-)
@@techegg6431 depends where u live. Where I live the local durians are cheap but seasonal so they only come only maybe 2 times a year. If we want durian from thailand they are usually available in any supermarket but they cost like 20-30 US dollar each.
Since Nathan like durian, you all can try a trick where you wrap it with a plastic wrap (so that the refrigerator does not have durian smell) and put the durian into the refrigerator for about one and half hour(not the freezer). After that you can take it out and eat it. The taste will be better. So guys enjoy.
i love durian so much because every time i ate it gaves me different version of durian flavours even though its from the same type of durians.. as u know there are various type of durians.
Some ppl hated durian because of “bad smells “ durian ,but Once they get the Good durian , and tried it they begin to Like it , and somehow Its growing to love it , at the time they have the Best durian , they will get addicted , Beware of durian 💝
Hi Guys! I love watching your video....! you two so nice even this your first time eating Durian but u two politely trying to finished them ! I'm sure this is a nice experience for you both....
Im malaysian and i hate the smell of durian's but i love eating them ...... there is many types of durians . the most expensive once are the musang king
ayai de la rocha We love the food here, we actually shot a breakfast video today where we had Nasi lemak, roti's and Teh Tarik, soooo good, that's coming out tuesday!
I’m a durian lover ! Can’t get enough of it. Love the smell & obviously the taste. Did you eat the Musang King ? Didn’t look like it . Colour not bright yellow enough & I saw that it’s quite fibrous ( which I don’t like). Anyway, I’m glad that most of you like it. Kudos 👍
really appreciate your kind & honest review on this durian which we in Malaysia call it the King of Fruit....u r right some like & some hate it....but its a unique fruit and very rare....that's why it's pricey....but I love it!!
My mum hated it until she met my dad. Now she’s happily eating it! My sister is picky with food except durian! Since It’s seasonal fruit , for those who love it it’s divine to enjoy it during durian season. The texture is soft in general. Taste is like combination of creamy, sweet and bitter! Personally If someone around u eat it, You’d better eat it too to be used to. Or else can’t handle the smell!
The reason why it is expensive is because those are hybrids thus the more consistent quality but also it's a silly big city practice whereby durians are weighed and is unfair because obviously you don't eat the spiky shell which you're also paying for 😂 however you can't argue that anymore because it's widely accepted now. Whereas in small towns or villages they would sell durians in its whole quantity. In my hometown it can cost RM10-12 but the fruit is just slightly smaller yet the flesh can be just as big as the ones you're holding. Some people like firm flesh some like it mushy but always avoid most frozen ones because they're usually not ripe and they're as hard as an apple's flesh. Good job anyway!
Love it. There's so many different varieties and they all taste so different. I really like the kampung ones from old trees. Other faves are Aiskrim, Kachang Hijau, Red Prawn, Green Skin, Musang King.
actually, you can eat the unripe durian, if you can't stand with the smell and the taste. some people even cook it and eat it with rice. The unripe durian tastes plain and not smelly at all.
Different type of durians will have its own distinguished taste. Like the one you tasted XO is known for the bitter taste (while it is still custardly sweet). Other types like Musang King is mostly sweet. You can ask the seller on the taste, but to simplify, it's usually either bitter or sweet. Good luck and enjoy your time in Malaysia!
I don't know why but I just love the expression from non-locals eating durian, not in a bad way I mean but it will always make me giggle. Probably I'm just weird. Any reference from Thomas and sheena means it's the best I'm a subscriber of them and now yours.
You should try fermented durian. Dip fried/charcoal-grilled fish in budu (fermented fish sauce) or malay traditional sambal then eat it with rice + ulam (assorted malay salad/leaves) . U will surely finish full plate of rice in no time
As a Malaysian,, i love it so much.. But it quite expensive.. Should try the durian kampung one.. It little more sweet and delicious!!! Remember to drink as many water after eat because durian can make your body temperature increase..
Greeting from Malaysia, Great video and sound quality. King of fruit only can be enjoyed by king's family .... 😀 I like to eat durian with sticky rice(pulut) with coconut milk. You should try for next time.
Me an Indian thinks that it is similar to ripe Jackfruit! I can't be sure but yess it seems to be! I love Jackfruit it also has a strong smell ( not that strong) and tastes gr8! We also eat Jackfruit as vegetable! And almost everyone loves it.
Durian is the sort of fruit you either love or hate, there is no middle ground. I happen to love it to bits. I would describe durian as nature's custard, given the texture, consistency and sweetness of the flesh. If you've tried it and don't seem to hate or feel repulsed by it, there is a high chance that you will really grow to love it the more you eat it. As a durian lover, I perceive the smell of the fruit as really fragrant and sweet, and don't get how newbies or haters think that it stinks. Depending on the species of durian, the level of sweetness, acidity, fragrance, thickness and color of the flesh varies. The ones picked out for you should be really good :)
This is spot on Mark, I feel the same way, the taste was very different from what I'm used to and even though I didn't love it straight away, it certainly grows on you and you find yourself wanting more and more! Thanks for watching!
the texture is like butter or ripe avocado ... soft and smooth and has a little bit of fiber ... the taste is complex ... you can taste many different fruit in it depending on your taste buds ... that's why it"s called king of the fruits ... and it is very addictive ...
For the ultimate appreciation of the durian, head to Malaysia, NOT thailand or Vietnam. The variety and different species of durians are better documented in Malaysia.. Each has its distinctive level and dimension of taste. To all first-timers, dont judge by its initial taste in just mere seconds. Instead, have an IMPARTIAL MINDSET first and then slowly focus on its changing taste in your mouth. It is a wonder between sweet and bitter, more appreciation on the bitter side. For instance, just like how people appreciate alcohol.
great video! and really optimistic in trying out the durian! thumbs up to that! i've been eating durian since young. The next time you have your chance to be in that same place where you shoot this video..ask them to introduce you to all types of durian. from squishy to solid flesh. from bitter to plain and milky to savory sweet flesh. I guess by now you'd notice that the smell will stick on your fingers or around your mouth if you have contact with it. its easy to get rid of of smell, simply run through some water along the husk of the durian and drink the water. as for your hands, rub anything against aluminium (its the same method as getting rid of garlic smell on your hands). its mythical but it works! nevertheless, awesome effort!
I am half Chinese and every time I went to Asia to see family, I would smell a durian in some shops and think “what is THAT SMELL”. As a child I thought it smelled gross, and since there’s not so much durian in China I wasn’t pressed to try it. When I grew to adulthood someone described the taste to me like creamy vanilla custard so then my curiosity was piqued to try it... now I LOVE DURIAN!!!
I was curious to try Durian as I had mixed feelings from people who I had spoken to. So when I went to live in Singapore I managed to pluck enough courage to try it out for my self. I think if you buy a good variety like Musan king it tastes pretty good. The texture is quite difficult to get used to for me, and generally speaking I think it was much better than I anticipated. One thing that still puts me off though is the smell on the breath even hours after eating it specially after burps ( not nice!), but otherwise it’s all good.
Hello guys!! I just need to tell you guys that i'm a big fan of durians, amd also the texture makes a really big play bcs for me, i prefer the hard one compared to the mushy one bcs the texture itself can make me feels like throwing up. Btw love your vids and i cant wait till you guys come to Malaysia again!
You've explored the outskirts of KL and the food there. I think it's tme to 'upgrade' that when you are back in M'sia next, maybe try arranging with the hotels especially the 5-star ones and show us your experiences in those hotels. Also, of course the amazing islands/beaches here (e.g. Perhentian, Redang), Kota Kinabalu, Genting Highlands ;)
the thing about durian is, you either like it or hate it. no in between. also if you wanna try it for the first time, dont take it close to your nose and smell it. it'll smell terrible, start by taking it into your mouth and then your sense of smell will adapt to it, only later then you'll appreciate the smell it gives out
Ss2’s durian is good but slightly more expensive so I mostly durian from a seller in TTDI. I got durian from Aeon once and although it was pricey, it was so good. Yellow, plump, sweet and creamy
You All are Indiana Jones of Malaysia Food & Fruits tasting. I was hoping you all could taste other types of durian with much softer fruit. Perhaps Always A Friday and Chasing A Plate should do more on Malaysian fruits? Much Appreciate your honest reviews. Awesome group. Even F1 Lewis Hamiltion and his Mercedes Team enjoy eating durian. Do Not eat durian 1 to 2 hours before or after medication.
Im malaysian. Frankly, thai durian and malaysian durian are different. As for me personally, the stronger the smell and the stronger the taste, THE BETTER!!! 😂😂😂. Nowadays people are getting creative at growing "new" breeds. But as for me, i just love "Durian Kampung". Traditional durian, no cross breed whatsoever
The smell has to be strong to attract orang utans amongst the thick foliage of the tropical jungle. The taste is simply out of this world - there’s no other food that tastes that good, except for the strong cheeses.
I love durian!, there are many types of durians, the most expensive one is "musang king" which literally mean "fox King". Don't know how it get that names hahaha. But if u wanna try more exotic fruits u should come to Borneo. There a red coloured flesh durian, but the taste i don't know neither. Its really rare, since it probably not commercialized, and there more fruits such as "Dabai" [daaa bye] and "engkalak" [ng ka lack] something like that. Now it the seasons. U should try if u have the opportunity.
Rebecca, if you're eating it for the first time and not liking it ,its understandable ! For the first - timers ,you need to acquire the taste ! Believe me ,after 3or 4 forced sessions, you'll be craving for more, just like the locals !😁😁😁😁
