Trying Minecraft on Windows XP 

Minecraft works well on xp; I tried once! Just need a nice enough computer. I’m using my windows xp desktop and my windows 10 laptop now!

Most of the problems in the video, including lag, are not a result of the operating system, but rather, just that it's running on a VM.

Also windows xp is very close to me too. It was my FIRST OS!

I actually started playing on my parent's old computer which ran on XP. It worked pretty well with 1.8 snapshots.

Depending on the config of the VM, you can set use 1 core and play MC on XP with poor fps(cpu dependant for so and such), try with 4 cores to relax the so and give more to minecraft. As other comments recomended use virtualization on bios and a icedtea jre. As a user of virtualvox, it dosent like that much 3d, try with others VM. PS: great video! nice work PS2: as of mouse weird thing, try to put the vm windows fullscreen.

3D Acceleration in VirtualBox is abysmal (as in VMWare). The best bet is to try to get some hacky combination of Hyper-V, RemoteFX, and IcedTea JRE to do the job. Windows XP itself probably isn't the problem, unless you are running the 32-bit version.

Six years ago I used to play Minecraft (cracked version) on an old Pentium PC with a CRT monitor on Windows XP Professional with my little bro. It had an average frame rate of 15-20 FPS and my worst fear was fighting a skeleton. This video brings up some *good* memories.

The mouse issue most likely has nothing to do with smooth camera as others here has suggested. But rather because of how VirtualBox emulates mouse input. I haven't used VirtualBox much but you'll see the exact same issue when using Vmware workstation or TeamViewer in Minecraft or any other game. Might be an option somewhere to change how the vm handles mouse input but otherwise you'd need to run the OS directly on real hardware to fix it.

When I first got minecraft - back in 2015, I got it installed on windows XP, and after I turned all of the settings down to min, it ran out of the box; quite a plug and play process. I'm not sure if the newer versions have more compatibility issues, or if your VM is broken, but it worked for me.

I still play on my windows xp and never got problems, always 90~ frames per second and servers work perfectly. I always laugh when I see these videos because I play minecraft on my windows xp for over 8 years

I think you had Cinematic Camera on. It's like a control on Minecraft to move the player view smoothly. That's why your POV moves so slow.

Your mouse was like that because you need to enable "Mouse Integration" in the virtual machine settings.

It's depending on your hardware, how much the memory is, how fast the hdd is, how fast the processor, how good the operating system, If you got enough hardware to run on a Windows 98 computer. It will work.

Randomly decided to start trying to install and run Minecraft 1.2.5 with mods on a Windows XP x64 VM in 2022. Been having a few problems getting things to work, but I finally found a Jave 8 SE thing that would work... Now I just need a launcher that will start 1.2.5 and later I can add mods to the game.

in virtualbox you have it set to usb tablet. for the mouse movements to be correct you cane to se it to usb mouse in the "System Settings"

When i try that on old xp computer, when minecraft loading it instantly crash, and the aftermath is the PC hang like 5 minutes.

Missed the old XP recycle bin, ironically still set the windows 10 recycle bin to the one in XP.

If you're using Virtualbox, you can just set mouse to USB passthrough. This means that instead of your virtual machine handler trying to translate mouse movements from the host to the guest, your guest OS handles mouse data directly.

The mouse issue is because you have the setting enabled in your virtual thing that doesn't give the guest os control of your mouse, you need to disable the pointer thing

The problem with the mouse is common when trying to run a fps on VirtualBox. It's because of how the mouse integration works. It tells the guest os that it has a pen connected and that it's hovering over whatever position your host os pointer is at. If you disable mouse integration in your vm it will fix it, though it will lock your mouse into the vm and feel different from your host os mouse.

Minecraft thought you had smooth camera on! You can see which button it was bound to in the Controls, if any. Usually, it was F8 before it made the default button for smooth camera [None].

I have an old xp and know these problems also if i do fullscreen my computer crashes after the screen is black or with coloured squares. The mc launcher just don't work but i am using the technic launcher and its working beautiful just as any other computer. Pls make a video with it

In my old school, the PCs used to all run XP Professional, and somehow could run Minecraft, But due to the low memory for Minecraft, using far render distance would have crashed the game (this was when 1.2.3 was the current version, afterwards they got upgraded to windows 7 enterprise, when support for windows xp was nearing its end)

oh ive tried minecraft on xp many times with real hardware, its all i had back then, worked fine during the time i had it, it was around 1.0-1.3 tho so im not sure if it holds up today

I think a large amount of the lag would go away if you turned VSync off in the settings. On my old computer that really slowed down my fps a lot and I ALWAYS turned it off because it was virtually unplayable with it on compared to when it was off.

I think that you might have Cinematic Camera mode on.

the mouse is wired because there's a thing in minecraft that terns on sometimes that makes your mouse smooth, just look in options and you can tern it off!

Windows xp support Java 8 but you need to download offline version and install optifine and game runs fine.

The problem is with the specs you gave to the vm, my old PC with Windows XP 64 Bits runs preety well

I started Minecraft back in 1.0.0 on XP. Grated, the machine was already pretty old and slow so it lagged pretty bad, but that's to be expected.

If you want to play Minecraft in VirtualBox, you should disable mouse capture, but the cursor will disappear in Minecraft window. Also, 3D games won't work well in Virtual Machine because the "graphics driver" is virtualized. Running 3D games in Virtual Machine will cause lag and even unplayable. I have tested running Minecraft in VirtualBox. It will only work on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7, with Guest Additions installed and enable 3D acceleration. However, when I switch to other windows during playing Minecraft, the Minecraft screen will "freeze." I need to restart Minecraft to make it run properly again. If you try to play Minecraft on Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 in VirtualBox, an error message will pop out "Pixel Format Not Accelerated" because VirtualBox 3D acceleration is still in experimental. Most of 3D games will not run on those operating systems. Also, Minecraft will not run on Windows 2000 or older version of Windows in VirtualBox because VirtualBox 3D acceleration is not avalable on those operating systems. If you try to play Minecraft on real Windows 2000 machine or the machine with older version of Windows installed, the latest Minecraft version will work on these operating systems: - Windows 2000: 1.11.2 - Windows 98/ME: 1.11.2 (with KernelEx installed) They cannot run Minecraft 1.12 and higher because they cannot run Java 8.
