Re: cover letters !! Note! ***If you are applying for government jobs make sure you are including any and all required documents or the application system will just exclude your application***
@@kackie just trying to help because i applied for hundreds of jobs on usajobs before a federal employee i know pointed out a tiny mistake i was making and i was like oh 🙃
I am a hiring manager in tech and I can confirm…I never read the cover letters. This is partially because so many folks are terrible at writing them and they don’t tell you anything. Instead, send a portfolio of work samples. I’ve pretty much always found a role for the few folks who sent a portfolio (we don’t ask for them specifically)
Would anyone else like to see a roundup from Kackie of refillable makeup in her collection? In 2023, I'm scoping it out but there tends to be a higher up front cost. This seems like the perfect case for "Kackie tries it all so we don't have to" and I've definitely seen things in her reviews like the Make powder, bow lipstick, CT bronzer, Kjear Weiss, etc.
@@kackie every time you review a refillable item, it piques my interest and this just feels so in your wheelhouse. Your roundups are delightful and you are so attuned to the whole experience of an item. That matters so much if someone is committing to the same blush compact for a decade!
Hi Kackie! I'm the construction barrel Stanley Cup lady! Yes, the hockey Stanley Cup! My favorite NHL team had just won, and my best friend and I took a short cut (walking) through a road that was under construction. I happened to notice that the barrel in question had tiered rings like the Stanley Cup, it just needed to be silver. That barrel needed to become a trophy.
@@kackie that absolutely happened, and it came back out for the following two Stanley Cup championships. (No booze for the last one, because I was pregnant)
It’s so important to have good affordable makeup for people who can’t buy high end products or don’t want to splurge on it but the focus on direct copies and dupes is so strange to me. I wish they’d spend more time just making good affordable products.
Exactly - why dupes things that maybe a lot of people don’t like the original? Just make some good things so we don’t have to “compare “… but just have some good drugstore products to use
I'll be honest- specifically for the elf sunscreen and the halo glow- I almost feel like the dupe packaging is a disservice to the product. Both the sunscreen and primer are less glowy and more coverage then the products they're duping (which I and many other prefer). They would've done well as standalone products and elf could've avoided being labelled as a dupe company.
@@spruhakurlekar261 I totally agree on the sunscreen, but I think the halo glow is SO on the nose, it would have been a dupe regardless of the packaging. It probably would have been a more graceful move on their end, though, you're right.
I'm the "job hop" question. I am so so so so so happy you gave your thoughts on this question. I'm in a shitty job right now, and I have so many issues I have repeatedly brought up with my supervisors and have seen little to no change. I'm so exhausted.
That sucks. I’ve been laid off from jobs because I complained about sexiest treatment and they said “well this didn’t happen to the other girl” then made up something I didn’t even do to fire me. So my resume looks like I job hop or can’t hold employment because I work in a stupid shitty area of PA & don’t agree with everyone here. Jobs actually suck.
I see skincare and makeup very differently. For skincare my priority is actives and formulation and, since consistency is key, a price that I can afford to continue spending long term. Even packaging has to be practical in this case (I.e. airtight over pretty). I see skincare as healthcare for my skin. With makeup, it’s a luxury in itself, a treat, so I want the full experience from beautiful packaging to a great sensory experience.
Unfortunately I think TikTok is to blame for some of the prevalence of the near identical dupe packaging. If a high end product goes viral then companies will do whatever it takes to try and grab some of the hype and market share by making LITERALLY the same product.
Finally someone else saying this. I get so much pushback for voicing this. Like, these companies are not your friends, they don't care about you so why defend them like they're your bestie? They're taking advantage of the situation, and it's not for your benefit.
Hearing you talk about sexist work systems was the height of my day. I feel seen and though there aren't any resolutions in sight, it helps to know I'm not alone or crazy.
This may be controversial, but I honestly don’t care how creative drug store brands are being in terms of dupes. That’s not what I shop at the drugstore for. When it comes to the makeup I wear on a day to day basis, I’m pretty mercenary. I want something flattering, easy to work with, performs well, easily accessible and at a good price. So if a drugstore brand manages to reverse engineer a beloved high end product, I’m here for it. I’m happy to pay for quality when I think the expensive product is better (and superior to a degree that it justifies the price point), but I won’t pay a premium just on the principle that some brand was the first company to make something. In terms of companies duping packaging, I don’t mind it either. It’s just the way brands to communicate to their target audience (people who are not just drug store shoppers, but people who want low priced versions of cult favorites) what their product is meant to be. No one who is looking at a tube of the new Milani mascara is going to mistake it for the Thrive mascara or pass it off as such, but by copying some of the packaging elements it communicates to the consumer “hey you like X, try Y”. It’s the cosmetic version of the sort of label you’d find on a “designer imposter” fragrance.
Oh Kackie.. as a makeup lover who is also in the tech industry.. and a brown woman.. who is also ALWAYS the person to escalate things.. I'd love to get a coffee one day lmao (Side note : Goldie Cassis shows up, but is very lackluster on me, a medium olive ~ NC 35)
Sorry to comment the same thing twice, but I'm not sure you saw the other one: Could you look into the Half Magic beauty blushes and see if you're interested in reviewing them? They're hybrid texture, interesting colors, and have sustainable packaging
the texture of these blushes look sooooo good, and i kinda really love the lil cat paw brush too🙈 i reallly want at least 2 shades, save me from myself!!
If it’s a great dupe, bring it on. I don’t care if the packaging is the same either. If the product is good or even better than high end why would I pay so much more for high end? It’s not like a fake LV or Chanel bag. These products are used, thrown away, then repurchased (if good). If you are going through a few tubes of the Super Goop Glow Screen a year why would you continue to spend 3x as much when the ELF is exactly the same? Ditto the ELF illuminator. These are ongoing costs. As far as exactly copying packaging, how else is a person supposed to know this is a possible dupe for an already well liked and popular product. I don’t think it’s lazy, I think it’s smart. Just my take.
Exactly what I thought. There is an obvious reason why the packaging is very similar. It lets the buyer know that the product is a dupe. Not everyone can afford high end makeup and for those that would like to try a popular product in a drugstore formula, this makes it possible.
I’m sorry if I’m just an echo on this topic, but I must say-HR is there to protect the company NOT the employees. HR is there to keep the company out of scandal, NOT the employees safe. Now sometimes those two things are able to exist in the same space, but don’t become dissolutioned! The company comes FIRST not the employees.
My wife is a manager at a big tech company and she still really wants to get a good cover letter. She also isn’t out there looking for confident rule breakers, she’s more looking for talented team players…
@@portiamurray8614 OMG i TOTALLY forgot about that. YEAH, every job I've ever interviewed for in tech made me take multiple tests and some of them required a PRESENTATION during the interview. I guess I blocked that out.
I’ve been loving the milani mascara. I curl mine beforehand and it doesn’t fall at all. I did love the thrive one but they only carried it at ulta for like a month then pulled it from stores. So now it’s a pain to get /:
Having served on a lot of hiring committees, if the application asks for a cover letter and you don’t upload one, the application is considered incomplete and may not even be read or rated. Always submit what is asked of you.
Kackie that elf halo glow made your skin look so beautiful, you could always bronze down the neck area with something like fenty body sauce, lol before jewellery as it dries down somewhat. But really this look is stunning.
I feel like the job market and everything related to it (including the question of cover letter yes or no) is so totally different in the States. I'm in Belgium. The country the size of Austin ? I don't know, but we're so tiny, it just might 😂 My confession : I've haven't gone outside without make up on in yonks. As a busy, working mom with 2 young daughters and a 3 hour daily commute, doing my make-up in the morning before the kids are up, with my mug of coffee and a Kackie video is my safe/happy place and basically the only thing I get to do for myself, by myself. It's not about covering my face, or even art. It's about finding joy in the mundane and being happy in routine. Does that make sense ?
Even with combo/oiliesh skin, I get great lt/med covetage from the Loreal Tru Match Nude. It seemed you used a tiny amount and rubbed it in like skin care. I apply with my fingers and then press in with a damp sponge - beautiful complexion evening coverage that lasts for hours once powdered.
Literally every time I’ve gone to HR about a serious issue, I have been let go a month or two later. We’re talking harassment, antisemitism, threats of violence, and actual violence. But what can you do? When someone decides to treat you that way, you’ve already lost the job no matter what, and the only thing you have control over is whether you want to control the timing of your exit by setting off that bomb.
Hello lady, what take do you have on the Bobbie Brown brand and there markup brand. Thank you for the breakdown on your take for color theory application and branding.
Your ability to put that elf no budge cream shadow on your lids with just your finger makes me wonder what on earth I’m doing wrong LOL I have a different shade, but I find it to be super sticky and hard to blend out unless I use a micro amount with a brush. The second I use my fingers, it’s game over 😅
I’ve still never tried the thrive mascara, I use hourglass unlocked. I would love a brown tubing mascara. I just haven’t found another tubing mascara that I like as much.
Loved this video. I hear you about aesthetics of makeup/skincare which is why I’m surprised you like the BK brushes so much. They’re just so blah 😒 to me. Thoughts?
Thank you so much for randomly mentioning in a video a few weeks ago that the lumi had oxtinoxate in it! I had been breaking out so horrible for like a month and could not figure out why. Well that’s the culprit. I had been mixing it into my rare beauty tinted moisturizer (which is beautiful if octinoxate doesn’t both you) I haven’t used it in a month and my skin is healing and haven’t had an active breakout in at least two weeks!
I am loving the Milani mascara. And it does the same exact thing that thrive does on my lashes. I absolutely HATE it the first week I use it then I love it. Both were like that. I had the same problem with the dry down in Milani the first week but it dried much quicker after that. But that also happens to me with the thrive one too, takes forever to set the first week or so.
Also regarding cover letters - I teach employment workshops and they are def optional. My rule of thumb is if you have something really compelling to say then write one, but if it’s going to be generic garbage just don’t do it. I’m a hiring manager and used to work in recruiting. I always read them, but only maybe 1/20 have interested me enough to set up an interview when I might have passed based off the resume!
Re the lipgloss name in French: There is an old stoplight in the town over from mine that for YEARS had a sign that said “No right turn on [in text] red ball” 😂
I've worked for 3 F100 companies in the life sciences (biology and chemistry research). two German and one American. I had less negotiation power with my M.S. and 5+ yrs of industrial experience than a person with just an MBA. business always gets to steamroll science, too.
Pepsi, Bayer and Siemens! literally F100. makes me wanna vomit. that's why I'm teaching college level bio to HS AP students. cz f corporate slavery. if anything, 2020 taught us this country needs more science education.
Was waiting for this and it did not disappoint. As always, loved it! Crazy question, you have the most natural looking lips ever, may I ask what you say or request, besides natural, to get such perfectly done natural looking lips? I’m going tomorrow and so afraid of the overdone look. I just can’t believe you have lip filler. Sorry for the request, but they are perfection and would so appreciate your input. Thank you!!
oh THANK you! It's 1 syringe of Volbella, the longest lasting and most subtle material. I ALWAYS go to a dermatologist (not an injection specialist - no shade, I just want super natural looking results), and bring pictures! It'll help them know what you're going for. It's really an art form what they do.
All my bosses are women except one young guy who is at the bottom of tier …I guess my work experience has been different? But my main boss kills it, makes tons of money and has every single persons respect. I love working for her
If it's about the Aura of the product - u have to try Auric Glowlust! It's incredible! I use it for everything - even to soften the edges of my blush or mix it w/lipstick for a custom blush shade. It's the best!
With respect to natural vs the heavier make-up, it is 1000% your choice but I will say that I prefer you with lighter make-up as it is more relatable for me. With that said, I recognise that you are chatting whilst adding make-jp and you have a lot to say 🤣 - I think that may have something to do with it! ❤
I lost my job in October after a restructure. I was burnt out and have been enjoying staying at home and being fully present for my family. Not only was the company I worked for misogynistic, but the women that were promoted into executive positions bought into the misogyny. So disheartening.
I would not recommend forgoeing a cover letter. Partially because businesses use software to filter out an applicant pool based on the keywords that appear in resume/cv and cover letter. But also because what if you're competing with people who are just as well qualified as you are.
ATS's (applicant tracking systems) really don't do that - I know a lot of people say they do, but I've worked with so many and none of them are that smart lol. It's a bit of a myth. I'm a recruiter and I still look at every single resume and I don't do searches based on keywords. My opinion is that cover letters are a waste of everyone's time and the shift is to move away from them. To Kackie's point, the are good for entry-level/new grad candidates that don't have a lot of related experience, but can speak to transferable skills.
When I was hiring (for a job that relied on written communication) it was a good way for me to see a little bit more of the human than comes through in most resumes.
@@cristinag3507 that's good to know. My industry is kinda specific (museum/libraries), so there is usually a human reviewing all of the application materials. But it does seem that for large expected applicant pools, companies are using some form of filtering system even if it isn't necessarily keywords
Omg yep I feel ya! I’m a postdoc and I’ve written hundreds of cover letters over the past 2-3 years and most of my app packages are that long as well 😭 congrats on getting a professor job!!
I got the Milani mascara about a month ago and I’ve been hoping it would dry out a bit and it’s still a super wet mascara and it still balls up on the end. The biggest thing for me is that I end up getting it ALL OVER my eyelids.
Tell Jason not to feel bad, I did the same in the 90s (still do occasionally lol) but got weird with the shaving patterns. For over a decade a student video was used in a class at my old college - preserving the image of me with the top of my head shaved but not the back. You know, in the super hot klingon style 😂
Okay yes I agree with you about having a dialed in resume but a cover letter does really serve a purpose in some instances. I Switches from Art into engineering and having a cover letter to go into my non traditional background really went a long way with smaller more start-up like places. But for the big guys I totally agree, no one reads them
i only prefer the CT because the elf one is too orange for my shade however the elf product itself is literally diamond status compared to CT like the formula is superior to CT. just shade 6 is too orange. i wish that elf would create a 6.5 like CT and i’ll be a complete convert
Pausing the video the comment. You look best when you are enjoying how you look! No makeup but confident about your skin? Yes! Full face of dramatic makeup that you are EXCITED about? You GLOW! Don't let anyone else tell you differently. :-)
Regarding dupes, which do you think came first? The dupe or the influencer? I think brands are intentionally duping products because of the advent of "dupes" videos on RU-vid and other platforms. Knowing that people are looking specifically for the same formulas at a drug store price because of videos like that, likely makes them want to call attention to their dupe by duping the packaging no? This is really just a question more than a firm opinion but it strikes me that we criticize brands for duping, yet consume videos about dupe-able products. Then again, I agree with everything you said, so I am torn!
I'm struggling so hard with the Thrive mascara. It leaves my lashes stubby and those balls show up if I apply more than one swipe. I'm going to keep trying it since it looks fantastic on some people; I just wish I knew the magic technique to get it to lengthen and add volume well. It wears great with no smudging or flaking, but I'm always disappointed when I look at my sad little stumpy clump lashes throughout the day. It must be user error, so I'll persist. Thank you for reviewing these drugstore products!
Kackie that was such a niche bon appetit reference but I GOT IT. and I totally agree that I understand Claire's point but also that's not how my brain understands it
Kackie, not a drugstore girl, but still enjoyed the video. Also, have you or will you please review some Mob beauty? Like the mascara, or cream clay blushes and cream clay eyeshadows? Thx :) ❤
I am one of those european people who can't get thrive mascara. Tubing Is becoming fast makeup and I am not mad if the best type of mascara formula trickles down
Girl, I refill my Hourglass container with the e.l.f. loose powder because it's so, so much nicer to look at. I get you 😂 Packaging is so important to me now I've curated a single drawer of sumptuous makeup options
Do you think the lightest shade of the ELF/CT-dupe-glowy-goo is more neutral than the 2nd lightest shade? This shade would look straight up orange on me.
Gorgeous, Bare Faced!!! I LOVE how confident you are without makeup & how you truly love your skin!!! I hope someday I might at least "like" my skin & not feel panicked when looking at it!!! 💜
Women at the workplace: I just don't know how to restructure the world for my 30-day hormonal cycle. My consumeristic behaviors are on a 24-hour cycle just like men's hormone cycles. Is it really fair to ask the workplace to fully accomodate my female needs? I really don't know if it is fair. At the same time; maybe we were just sold a lie that female empowerment is in an office/career. Maybe it just doesn't fulfill 90% of women. No matter how my boss attempted to cater to my unique female needs in the workplace, I will never get fulfillment or purpose from creating sales reports and anaylsing data. I get more fulfilled from organizing my home and baking bread.
Thrive mascara is my ride or die, so I don’t understand why I have every other mascara that comes out, when I know I’ll never find one that meets my needs like Thrive. I have 12 other mascaras right now! What is wrong with me? It’s a problem.
A white makeup youtuber that doesn't avoid politics and umm the truth about the world!! Wow! Thank you for existing. (It really shouldn't be, but) this is so refreshing.
Ugh. Feeling kinda shamed for using some of those drugstore products. Guess I'm on the wrong channel -- intertwining the brand snobbery with all the virtue signaling was an odd combo for sure.
So many days I look at myself in the mirror and I really think I look good with bare skin and then I think maaaaaybe just a little concealer and then next thing I know I'm wearing a full face of full glam and a bold lip and it's like???? What's wrong with me. :D
cover letters are much less common nowadays, most don't ask for or want them The Milani mascara is not dupe for the Thrive. IMO. It isn't even that nice of a tubing mascara. The forula has a weird thickness/gluey formula that makes lashes stick together. My lashes weren't clumpy, but would stick together instead of separating .
