Hahahaha I live in Oslo, and when I saw this was a Norwegian snacks video I was just waiting for the salty licorice to appear. It's always going to be in these videos. Scandinavians love their licorice. The salt isn't actually normal salt, that's why it tastes so strong. It's ammonium salt, which has a very nasally punch to it. I think it's gross too but we have AMAZING chocolate here though!!!
@plejade4125
@plejade4125 6 лет назад
Scandi Snowgirl oh wow, so interesting to know about the salt, I always wondered why I can't just dip my regular licorice gummies in salt (jep, I tried XD because salted licorice is almost not aviable here in Switzerland, just from time to time I find some) thanks for explaining, I'm addicted to it haha :D
@joannegray5138
@joannegray5138 6 лет назад
I've never understood why Scandinavians are obsessed with liquorice when it's so disgusting. It's the type of sweet (candy) you give to your kids as a punishment. I do like the look of some of those chocolate bars though.
@plejade4125
@plejade4125 6 лет назад
Joanne Gray huh? It's nothing at all disgusting but only not everyones taste :D like Umeboshi, some love those salted fruits, some not ^^

VampyrMygg ooh i love salty licorice ^^ it's so rare here in Switzerland so everytime I find some I binge buy them(the same from Malaco appear from time to time here^^) once I had licorice soda drink, yummmy. But I can imagine that it is hard to love if you're not familiar with so it waa very fun to watch, again, hehe. Thank you for sharing some treats from Norway. It's a life goal to visit your stunning beautiful country, my parents did the Hurtigruten and bring me back some treats (first time I had Molte berry^^) and many incredible pictures so I felt deeper in love with Norway. Sending you some lovely greetings ^^/

Fun fact: The standard size for pretty much all Norwegian chocolate bars was about 50% the size of what they are now, up until American company, Mondelez bought out Freia and cranked up the sizes of their bars. The largest chocolate competitor, Nidar followed suit and cranked up their sizes as well.. and now, we're stuck with mid and large- size chocolate bars. They don't even produce the small- sized ones anymore :P

Your Norwegian is pretty good, guys! :) I enjoy the big chocolate bars very much - too much, probably! There's one called "fruktnøtt" - "fruit nut", which is basically like the ones you tried with nuts, but also with raisins. Another good one is Daim, which has little bits of almond brittle in it. Yum. Eagerly awaiting part two!

Melkesjokale are like a norwegian nathional treasure. Just sithout the "nutty" nuts, they stupidly filled in some years ago. We also have a nother one who hold as a nathional treasure, called Kvikk Lunsj. Every easter hollyday norwegians take to the mountains and do our skiactivity, and Kvikk Lunsj are always stashed in the backsack . The alesnumber for that one goes crasy around easter. My favorite as a kid was Hobby. Fishermans Friends are also popular as a shotdrink. Just put a bag of it innto a bottle of Vodka, shake it well and put it in the fridge for a couple of hours.

You guys' norwegian is pretty on point! There's a reason for that though and it's because norwegian and japanese share alot of the same vowels (pronounced very similarily). Which is also why it's so easy for norwegians to pick up japanese!

Urge is mainly a Norwegian soda. When it hit the market in the U.S they channged the name to "Surge". Since "Urge" could be a sexual reference or related to 'having the urge to .... " . Norway is some of the best chocolate in the world! Really fun to see you guys try our sweets and snacks!

I do remember Surge soda but never tried it. Here's a link to a documentary on Surge. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DHXaLK4LMx4.html There's also advertising for Surge on RU-vid. Sounds like it first came out in Norway and then brought out in the USA.

It was public enemy #1 when I was growing up(in the USA). Parents didn’t like it because of how much sugar/caffeine it had when compared to competitors. I have always liked the flavor though and was sad to see it go. Happily it’s available again here in the States, generally found at gas stations. Flavor-wise it’s similar to the way ‘Vault’ tastes of you’ve ever had that.

They stopped selling it in Norway, but people kept nagging them to re-release it, so they did. Now there's also a sugar free version of it called "Urge Zero".

The way I heard it, is they released it in Norway first, as a test market before going worldwide, and for some reason, Norway was the only country that liked it. I don't think they really ever stopped selling it altogether, but they stopped selling them in the large bottles for a while iirc

A little history of Urge: In the 90s, the Coca-Cola Company wanted to compete with PepsiCo's Mountain Dew, so they released the drink called "Urge" in the Norwegian market as a test product, to see how it would compete with Mountain Dew. It soon became popular, and in 1997, Coca-Cola decided to market this product under the name of "Surge" in the US. In 2003 it was, however, removed from the shelves in the US (I guess it couldn't compete with Mountain Dew). Since then, Urge has been produced and marketed only in Norway (with some export to the other Scandinavian countries). I guess the reason for Urge's success in Norway is PepsiCo's complete failure to market Mountain Dew in Norway. My first taste of Mountain Dew was in 2016, which was from a bottle I had bought in Sweden. PepsiCo didn't really start marketing Mountain Dew in Norway till about 2-3 years ago, and it still has limited marketing. It's a rare sight on store shelves, mostly sold at pizza shops etc. Mountain Dew itself is mostly sold in Norway in the form of Sodastream flavour. Urge on the other hand, is to be seen at every store shelf in Norway. I have yet to see a store or restaurant without Urge.
