The beautiful thing about the first level was that it was NOT packed full of trolls. It had just enough non-troll bits to lure you into complacency then it hits you with another troll.

That first level was a lowkey genius one. Not stevo levels, but still absolutely masterful

That first level was so good! I think Carl really set himself up not to like this by doing try not to laugh. There were so many things to love about it, kicking it off with a pipe setup before 1st cp is creative cos it's even more unexpected, especially with the aesthetic whiplash from haunted house to rainbow happy cloud ride of death. I also really appreciate the open spaces where you can explore (in fear of fish) since so many newer troll levels are these super tight paths with a couple of options of what you can do. This also means that you can put attainable shinies that you get if you can dodge the exploration trolls, which is nice since the trend is now to offer shinies for a 50/50 90 troll as opposed to actually being enticing, since the player doesn't expect shiniest to be both optional and attainable any more. And all of that without mentioning the trolls that were really good just on face value like the end post trolls, the left arrow made of right arrows, the noteblock/vine trolls, or the fact that the aesthetics of this level were better than most of the big names. I'm just ranting cos I don't like how everyone in the comments is like oh that level wasn't bad actually, when if it was presented as a normal video I don't think anyone would notice it as being of lesser quality, and I personally appreciate that it breaks from the 'troll meta' a bit.

I think, on the “NYES” idea, the stronger play is to have 3 visible “N top” sections. The first one is the obvious “NO.” The second one is scrolled down a bit, so you can see the whole N, and the top of the Y beneath it, but when you jump down the pit it says “NYET.” The third time, it’s the same as the second time, with the Y top showing, but it’s the right way to go, and it says “NYES.” Or it’s a rainbow pit with an anti softlock that says “NYAN.”

That fish at the end is the GREATEST, MOST OBVIOUS fish that EVERYONE fell for XD

That first level had some really good setups in it. Even if it relied too heavily on fish trolls, it still was a pretty good level.

Surprisingly, watching you play and laugh at bad troll levels is almost as fun as watching you play good troll levels. They really have their very own kind of charm.

Watching Carl play that first level felt like watching a tsundere getting character development

Recommend that first one to all the council. Geek, Juz, Defender, maybe even Ryu if he's down for a troll. That was amazing and that creator needs all the attention.

I ADORE these unpolished troll levels. Not to bash the more polished troll levels: they've been around long enough they've become a sort of art form! But they can feel a bit scripted after you've seen enough of them. There's a certain earnesty in these ones, you know? The "No" visible from above the pit, the contraption that's just a bunch of spiked balls into a muncher, they're gold! You sometimes get an actually well-put-together, interesting troll, and then you die to a kaizo block with a fish in it. It's great. I hope you keep making these,

the third level is called "my first *SMW* troll level" so it probably wasn't his actual first troll level

That 'first troll level', just for not being full of hot garbage insta-kill, is already better than most of the levels out there.

I like how the first couple levels were solid starts for budding troll creators and then Carl got what basically amounted to a less polished version of one of his own evil levels.

Man, I REALLY missed carl playing trash levels, quality levels are good but there's a certain comedy that trash levels have that cannot be replicated

I agree with 30:24. I would love to see a troll level that tries to hide how expertly made it is by looking as amateur-ish as possible. Visible contraptions that you think reveal the secret, but it's the opposite of what you expect. Partially visible clue messages that actually are the correct path, not a dead end. There's so many possibilities.
