to those that complain about Jackie talking about race a lot: it's almost like the way makeup looks and matches is affected by the wearer's skin tone so being a different race is relevant to doing/reviewing/talking about makeup. Would you look at that?

I do the same thing cause I’m PETTY! When i go to Sephora and ask for nude and they give me peachy, beige colors I say “that’s not nude, that’s peach” then i point to a brown shade and say “that’s nude” and they respond “oh you mean the brown?” Then I remind them that that’s MY nude and that nude is subjective! I’m not the one, lol

Foundations called "nude" make the least sense. Should ALL foundations be technically NUDE???

I remember when I was younger how odd I thought it was when people of color were described in books their race was always mentioned, but if someone’s race was not mentioned it was supposed to be assumed they were white!

One of the definitions of NUDE literally is-the color of clothing or makeup resembling that of the WEARER'S skin. So anyone that thinks nude is a light beige is very ignorant.

You should also do a video testing out products companies claim are “universally flattering” on different skin tones. Because usually they are not flattering on darker skin tones.

The "nude" bra thing is so real. For the longest time I would have to just wear a cami underneath because a beige bra would be really obvious against my fish belly white skin (which still was obvious but at least wasn't "inappropriate"). Nude doesn't work on both ends of the spectrum and alienates 95% of the consumer base.

This is so important. I’m not dark skin and even on me a lot of nudes make me look dead. Thank you for the voice you are for the POC community. ♥️

It's like band aids called flesh tone and I'm like🙄...flesh tone for who?! It ain't the tone of my flesh!!!

Its just like how white amaericans are identified american but anyone else has a signifier ie black, asian, carribean, etc even after generations of being american. Whiteness is the standard and in order to change or challenge that standard we have to fully acknowledge whiteness when speaking/reading/ or living in proximity to the concept of it.

I really love how you still keep talking about races in make up even tho many people love to slander you for it, even black people. Its so important, even tho it has been getting better we still have a long way to go and be more inclusive in make up and i love that you still use your platform for this. Ok so I have been watching a ton of Say Yes to the Dress and like you know that neckline that is supposed to look like your skin tone (I think it’s called illusion neckline or something like that) but they need to start making those in all shades not just like a medium skin tone we need the super dark and the super light 👏👏👏👏👏THE WEDDING DRESSES NEED TO BE DIVERSE TOO

I work at a lingerie boutique and it's always interesting when non-poc customers put up their neutral options and ask me which I would choose. They're always so shocked when I explain that a nude bra isn't the same for everyone. That band-aid color ain't nude for everybody lol! Thanks for shedding light on this one!!!

I wanna see a foundation where every single shade is called varying spellings of the word nude like NUDE and Nude and nude.

I don't understand "nude" lipsticks. Just call them what they are: light peach, medium pink, dark beige, etc. I am of Northern European descent and have ultra fair skin with pink undertones, and "nude" is very unflattering on me and makes my teeth look yellow.

I remember when there was an ad campaign for nude bras and they had bras for all different types of skin tones and I'm embarrassed to say I had not thought about it before I saw that. It changed the way I thought about the word nude forever, because nude is different for everyone. I think we all need to take it upon ourselves to listen to people when they talk about these things. *SOME* people seem to get really upset with Jackie when she's trying to inform the world about these issues but like.. ignorance isn't cute.. getting mad at someone for trying to cure your ignorance isn't cute.. Admit your privilege and be better for it. You'll be a lot happier.

It's crazy that a few years ago this wasn't ever something I thought about. I'm privileged enough that I can easily find a shade for me almost anywhere. But I am so glad I stumbled upon people like you who create amazing entertaining content that is also informative and will help shape the way many people see the world. I don't even work in the makeup industry, but it's because of people like you that have me trying to be mindful of what I can do to be better and make things better. I'm a student working to be a Prosthetics Technician, and all of the foams we use in class to create that 'real leg look' are all peachy colors. I'm trying to convince my teachers to order some different colors and start talking about how we can work to have more options. We only have peachy foams but the the minute you do a transfem you can get any kind of fabric you want. We have at least 6 ET alien legs in the room right now but only light foam????

I feel like foundations shouldn’t even be labeled as “nude” cause like it’s the same meaning as “ to match your skin” so but really a point.

I friggin LOVE how Jackie deals with the tone deaf issues in the makeup community. There definitely are still issues when it comes to inclusivity especially in skin coloring, but the way she delivers the issues is so calm and mature and nonaccusatory toward any groups in particular and she really frames everything positively and doesn’t let the negativity come through in her attitude or anything and it just is a good way to really make people see the real issues without pissing people off if that makes sense

I absolutely agree with you! I’ve always layered lipsticks colors to get “my perfect nude!” There should be more thought that goes into making sure everyone’s perfect shade is included in the makeup industry and that everyone can easily purchase those products.

I am a very light skinned African American woman, and to be honest throughout my life I have never paid attention to the makeup tone darker than my own. And I never knew that darker tones were so limited until I started watching you. I just wanted to say thank you for opening my eyes and for all you are doing because I have a 9 year old daughter that is dark skin and because your fight for equality when she is old enough she will not have to struggle with finding options that suite her. I love that you’re educating people! I was never really into make up or really knew anything about it when I was a teenager. I would just buy my makeup from the drug store not really aware of the inadequacy in the darker shade ranges.. It wasn’t until Fenty came out with all the shades and everyone was talking about it that I realised brands really don’t cater to people of darker skin tones and it’s so disappointing. Everyone should have the right to access makeup that caters to them! Hopefully we keep moving forward and making positive changes.
