in case y'all were wondering what happened for a few seconds around 7:37 when the food is too good, my camera tend to black out from jealousy. Don't worry, I already told it to just focus, don't be negative and if that still doesn't help, go do some shots!
I used to go to Korea to see family every year but now that I can't this time around it's nice to be able to live through your videos. Thank you for doing what you do!
4:24 just wanna give a quick shout out to that incredible street art in the background, idk if it’s part of an advertisement, maybe it’s a huge billboard- I can’t tell- but it’s gorgeous!
I love korea . There's so many vlogers that have been in Korea but Mike is just so different and fun to watch . I've learnt so much thank you Mike for starting youtube 💜🥰
Mike, you gotta just stay in Korea man! Your vibes have been so positive and happy and we see you enjoying virtually everything u eat there! Has Korea crept up your list of favorite overall food countries??
I don’t know why but any time I see the streets of Seoul they seem oddly familiar like they give me nostalgia and I never stepped foot in Korea I have no idea what is it
I literally spit out my water when he said "i have a foot fetish especially with chicken and pig" i was like woah was NOT expecting to ever hear that. Ever 😂😂😂
Loving this Korean food series Mike! Really makes me want to travel to Korea when I get the chance. Thanks for highlighting all the food this country has to offer. Enjoy the rest of ur stay!!!
Hey Mikey, Love your show and we went to Jollibee in Cerritos, California ! The chicken is out of this world and the Mango Peach Pie is Bomb! the Halo Halo was great too ! the burger was good! It was a great experience !! Jollibee is a keeper!! Thanks, Chef Curtis
I am from Uijeongbu, and Odeng Sikdang is my fav. budaejjigae place! Jjigae in this place can be a little simpler than the newer places, but I love the straightforwardness of the stew and the kick of kimchi in their soup base. Love to see you visit my hometown and my to-go place!
Thanks Mikey for all these videos! I look forward to them every week and I also love your jokes and new plushy names!! 😊❤️ Thank you so much for making my week better!
06:04 i love how giddy Mikey gets with the prospect of great food lololo you can actually see the expectation build up!! Btw I've lived in Korea for 10 years and haven't tried cow tongue!! I'm going to look for one today! Thanks!
Hey Mikey! I love your videos so much and as someone who struggles a lot with disordered eating your videos made me excited to eat again! thank you so much for posting all the time and I hope I can continue watching you eat delicious food all the time!
Its 7am in the morning and i NEED some budae-jjigae. Also, K-drama recommendation: Prison Playbook; Hospital Playlist. Hope you like it. Have a great day!
there are Oh my Ghostess; sweet munchies; Itaewon class for maybe cooking based K-drama. Also, if you into there cuisine or fusions there are quite a lot of fun variety shows like KBS Stars’ Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant; tvN Three Meals a day!; Let's Eat etc.
Hey Mike, this brings back a lot of memories. I was stationed at Red Cloud for 2 years. My wife and I would always go to Shinsegae Mall in Uijeongbu and have budae jjigae and go see a movie, then we would go to the ground floor and get waffles with cream! Love watching these videos!
i'm glad to see you making good decisions and trying to stay safe. your job is definitely dangerous right now. wishing you continued good luck and safety! i love your videos so much, so many things in the world i had no idea existed, inspiring me so much to experience it for myself someday :)
So happy to see another person taking the time to eat those pieces of meat others wouldn't even look at. I love chewing on a bone or joint to get that tasty goodness. Craving some pig's feet right now!
I was going to SK this year in late September until Corona said no 😭... Seeing all these videos of delicious food... I'm between jelaous, sad and hungry! Hopefully I can go in 2021. Mikey, I love your videos. They provide so much warmth for me. I also looove "What's Wrong with Secretary Kim" 💜 PS... Keep the dad jokes coming 😂
This stew was born during Korean War. Koreans literally had nothing to eat and many found left over spam and foods near American Army base. They mixed everything that they can find and created this.
@@channfongsrisin2226 this is an upscale version, you just need instant ramen, spam, Vienna sausages and some kimchi. These are all preserved cheap items.
You said that you visited Belgium in the past. Did you have a chance to eat our stew? If you haven't you should! It's basically beef that has been simmering in brown beer for 3 hours and it's soooooooo good.
If your current Korean food content had came before my visit to Korea I would have had one hell of a trip. I had a great time there but would have gotten more food knowledge through you.
Uijeongbo is quite far from the NK border though. Still connected to Seoul subway line. Haha! You got a long way to go and you can't see NK from there. The balls in the soup are potato dumplings. The potato starch gives them the chewy texture. Good to see you having good food in SK! By the way, that restaurant name translates to "fish cake house" because it was actually illegal to serve that stew in the 60s. It was a way to hide what they were actually serving. If you travel to Pyeongtaek, you can have Songtan Style buddae-jiggae, which was also started around the same time. It is meat based and not anchovy based broth. If you want to take a drive up to the NK border for some countryside food, I would be happy to show you sometime. There is a lot to explore outside the city. Cheers!
Bro I love your videos so much and it’s very sad cause everything that looks yummy isn’t in the u.s. :( but still enjoy watching, happy holidays brotha
idk if ur still in s Korea but I’d love to see u do a good challenge/ collab w the mukbanger tzyuyang who I think is the person who can eat the most food in one sitting in Korea hahah :)
Mikey that boiled pork at the end is called Bossam. You are supposed to eat it as a wrap (with the red radish kimchi wrapped inside the Chinese cabbage leaf). Which you left alone
Oh man, I wish my husband and I had gone to those restaurants when we were in Uijeongbu! If you ever go back we did have delicious duck bbq at a restaurant called Ori-Ma-Eul. Highly recommend.
I loved Army stew when I was a kid -- back then I didn't know it was Korean but my dad would make it once a week with us, he'd call it poor mans meal but in stew. :) spam is good in a broth.
I once had a multi course tasting menu, four hours, where there were professional food journalists, black belt level foodies, etc. when I had a conversation with the person next to me, a food editor, she asked what I thought of certain Korean restaurants. I replied some jigaes, lacked depth. They have no bottom. She asked what that meant. Mikey understands. The depth happens when the broth, sauce, stew gets to cool down after the initial cook. Then it develops more flavors when it’s reheated
Couple of good kdrama/comedies to keep you going, strong woman do bong soon, hotel waikikki, the girl who sees scents, weightlifting fairy, I am not a robot, suspicious partner, enjoy.
you came my hometown..! it's not well known town except korean army stew(부대찌개) and the army base. and the funny thing is, ODENG SIKDANG is a resturant where the local people don't go well actually. edit: also Uijeongbu is not that north. just slightly more north than Seoul.
Many Koreans worked in the US chow halls before and after the war. After feeding the soldiers they would take the leftover hamburgers and hotdogs and put it in kimchi stew. And Korean fusion was born.
everyone should travel like mikey! we should all just pack up and travel like mike. ASIA-NY-HI-WA-NY-WA-NY-ASIA for 2020...thanks for staying safe mikey! sure you did a few trips to TX in between all this. thanks for staying safe brother!
To answer your question on which brother to pick in Secretary Kim: of course I would pick the main dude. He is so kind! His older brother was so selfish. Lived all his life in delusion always blaming his little brother for doing something he never did. While our main man feigned amnesia for the sake of peace in his family, disregarding his own need for healing and fears. Btw, it was like the perfect drama!
Hey mike Im in the army and just got stationed here in Korea ... you stopped by my families restaurant in Seattle call Kauai Family Restaurant a few months ago and would love to do a food adventure with you before you leave this place
