To give you an idea of scale for rockets, the Saturn V had a mass of roughly 3 000 t. The payload to LEO was ~150 t, or 5%. The Falcon 9 has a total mass of roughly 549 t, with a payload to LEO of 22.8 t or roughly 4%. For any rocket, the vast majority of the rocket, is the rocket, not the payload.
I used to build planes, it's actually quite cheap to do. You've basically got a cheap outrunner brushless, cheap prop, a cheap transmitter, between 2 and 4 servos, and a heap of cheap foamboard. I used to build FliteTest planes. I think I still have templates I made. You could crash them all day and still keep flying. The rule is: anything can fly with enough thrust.
Speaking of KSP and planes, Scott Manley started hosting the Runway Project for this year. It is a multi week long tournament of modded fighter jets that you design with AI pilots.
The jet aircraft is closer in design to a Gloster Meteor than an Messersmitt 262. The one you had difficulty controling has a Canard style configuration which has a small fore wing in front of the main wings.
I got a friend who bought himself an RC plane and crashed it into a wall not even 5 minutes after using it, iirc he damaged a servo arm, but nothing that can't be fixed (He also used to play this game when it was called balsa)
I want more Scrap Mechanic piston engines. He was making some awesome stuff there at the end, and I wanted to see him become one of the leading piston engine builders. Maybe the videos just kinda started not doing so well.
@@jasonkrueger-myers8690 nah it's not that, kan is a cool guy, and he dosent take RU-vid seriously. He does what he wants to for fun. He's not result based. I've actually been noting that his crashlander vids have been doing really well.. but if he gets bored he will just jump ship. I respect him for that. Although not can be jarring from the viewer sometimes.
This game is literally just Balsa Model Flight sim... All the way down to the models used for the building. I'm not sure if it is the same devs or not, but that game was left unfinished. Edit: It is the same devs, apparently they left Balsa unfinished, and moved on to this game. Kinda feels like a money grab tbh/
"airplanes in rc is kinda scary" i fly them a lot and i can confirm mainly on a plane im worried about crashing, also going into the ground at like 100mph isn't good for a plane but i fixed one after that happened and i still fly it
Every time you talk about RC stuff, it makes me curious, because I also work in a hobby shop, but in BC, and we deal with a lot of RCs. It's a bit out of my budget at this point, but I enjoy watching my coworkers test RCs down the aisles xD
