After shaking, invert bottle for few seconds squeeze onto kitchen roll to rid of air in nozzle, (lightly, want minimum waste), job done fella , great tutorial BTW 👌👍

With bubbles in that AK puddle solution, I take a lighter to it. The vanish immediately. If it’s close to anything flammable like the plants, just take a hot lighter near the solution after the flame has gone out. They disappear after a short while. That’s what has helped me. Forget the RU-vidr that I first saw that tip from. Great comparison and video

This was pretty useful. I really liked how you went through your process and did the troubleshooting as you went. I agree that the AK product would give a nice Krieg-type look. I think I may use that on my Kill Team Octarius models when I get to them.

Awesome video, thanks! I'll be getting that Vallejo Water Texture one for sure. What did you use for the grey stones on the bases? Looks great! Would love to steal it. It'd look great with a dark blue pigmented water I think.

Good to see this. Not thrilled with the gloss varnish. The AK puddles seems ok, yet not sure I'm sold on it with the base coloring used here. The Vallejo seemed a bit shiny. I've used AK's "Still Water" product. It dries clear, sort of like the Vallejo shown here, and both might do well alone or perhaps with some coloring on the base before pouring the water products. I'm going to try painting the interior of some bottle caps with what might be used on a scenery piece for a marsh, and then test the AK "Still Water", as well as their "Swamp" gel, and see what happens, before using directly on an actual marsh scenery piece.

Thanks Mark! Yeah the gloss varnish was purely to show folks it looks pretty awful. I may have to do another video actually on this as I totally forgot to do woodland scenics realistic water which is actually now my favorite. The others still have used but hope it helps folks get some of them and play around!

I've used hardware store two part epoxy before, worked ok, kinda finnicky to work with (can flash cure on you, which is no bueno when you're in the middle of transferring it from the mixing surface to the base), also cures kinda rubbery and can fog up when you use cyanoacrylate to glue your models to the base close to the puddle. Just got my hands on some water texture from Scale75 which I expect will perform similar to the Vallejo Still Water. generally the self-leveling properties and relative lack of shrinkage are what you're looking for really, unless you wanna get sculptural with it (water splashes, running sewage etc), in which case UV resin (like from GSW) is probably your best bet.

I'd probably use my liquitex modelling stuff to build the bowl around the edge, although I have thought about using plasticard to build a little wall initially, and then smooth that out with the paste. I was thinking more in terms of UV resin though, where you need to have a seal. For this purpose the stones will work. I still really like using modelling paste though as the first step on bases, to add some shape to it. You can make your own from putty as well, just by watering it down. I rate the Liquitex modelling stuff though as a time saver. They have this gloss stuff that dries semi transparent. This is actually good to mix with colours and make liquids. I've seen good Nurgle bases done with this stuff. I know sometimes scale model builders will use this stuff to add detail to water, but it can dry a little cloudy, so I reckon it's best to mix colour into it and use for stuff like slime. You could likely mix it for doing puddles as well though, brown for mud, etc.

About the bubbles maybe there's a knack to tipping it first so all the air is away from.the nozzle. I'm hoping so cos I just bought some. 😂

Yeah it can be the pour and making it nice and smooth! I’ll try a different pour and see what happens!

@@WarpGateStudiosI saw Vince venturella use a pipet, don't think he went past 3/4 of the pipet. Just kept filling it up. He deffo talked about the bubbles being a big problem. He used silica balls after the fact to simulate bubbles... Maybe put Ur finger on the end and tip upside down and shake the air to the top. 🤔 I'm just building up the bases at the moment. But doing a whole nighthaunt army trying different things as I go. Looking good anyway. Cheers for the vid.

I can safely say before seeing this that the varnish will not look as good as the water tech, product. I wanted to do puddles a really long time ago on some Guard, and I tried just using gloss varnish, and it's really not that great. It can represent a wet surface on a mini quite well, but on the base it just doesn't look right, IMO. Much better using one of these purpose made ones, or even some UV resin. Woodland scenics make a water FX paste that is great for doing detail on top of water as well. you can make your flat surface with resin and then add detail on top with this stuff. It was quite a few years ago now, but this stuff was the best back then. I imagine other companies have similar products too. This was probably around 10 years ago, before gamer grass took over the tuft game. Woodland scenics were my favourite for flock and stuff like that as well. I got a great recipe for creating moss by using layered flocks and then a bit of yellow highlighting on top. I think they are a lesser known company in the mini space, and especially now with gamer grass doing their gorgeous tufts and laser plants, maybe a company like this is overlooked. I'd definitely recommend this brand though, they make some really cool stuff, especially for western-style nature bases (well forests and stuff, ha ha)

Have you ever tried mixing the vallejo one with colours, does it take well? you could also paint in the area you are applying the water to add some colour to it. I would usually advise doing this anyway though. have a darker colour on the stones, and then a lighter colour in the water/FX. With Nurgle Rot I've seen people use 2 or 3 different shades of the liquid as well, and then have them swirling through each other. Looks amazing. I want to do something like this, but for Tzeentch and Khorne for a Daemon army I have planned. It will be lava for Khorne and like the Ectoplasm river from Ghostbusters 2 for Tzeentch. having the earth ripped apart and either lava or Ectoplasm, flowing through it. It's a way to keep the bases uniform, but also bring the style of each god into it. I also want to do the Khorne bases as being heat blasted, so charred trees and soot on everything, grey and black pigments will help sell it. Little bits of crackle with the colours underneath, and on my Greater Daemons I'll actually have the ground breaking apart, and rivers of magma running through them. G'dman, I love designing bases. Coming up with a good base idea for an Army, makes the army was more exciting.

Some colors work really well but I tend to use them in very small amounts in water to get a tiny and then build up multiple layers. Let me know how you get on!

I'm doing a 1/72 General Aviation aircraft Diorama. The private jets have ice chest drainage so the planes look like they just peed on the Tarmac. What would you recommend if I wanted to do a splattered puddle effect??
@WarpGateStudios

My go to at the moment is either the AK or Woodland scenics, woodland scenics which I didn’t cover in the video actually has a slightly less shrinkage when dry and still looks super good! It’s reasonably cheap as well so maybe try that out and please send me a picture when you have it done. Sounds like a great project!
