Yoel trying pies for the first time - outside of Cuba! At 35 years old he has never taste test different pies like blueberry pie, apple pie or pecan pie. After our last video on thanksgiving food reaction, you all rightfully complained we didn't have any pies. Today this cuban man reacts to all different pies at PIE HOLE LA. His first time in a bakery that specializes in only pie.
Thank you to Pie Hole LA for allowing us to film and giving us some pie :)

Yoel reminds me of a friend of mine who lives in Ghana. I was talking to him via video one night when I stopped in a McDonald's drive-thru. He watched as I placed my order and pulled to the first window to pay and the second window to retrieve my order. When I looked back at the screen, he had a stunned look on his face. He had no idea such a place even existed anywhere. That's when it hit home for me that we do NOT appreciate what we have here in the U.S. Fast forward to today - I'm presently helping him immigrate to the U.S. for a better life.

Yes, it is a great series to give to our "limosine liberal" friends. Yes, I have them. All these great restaurants and products come from the competition of capitalism. Pretty much everybody in America ( at least in the private sector) works every day to try to make their product or service better and more attractive to a voluntary buyer who has lots of choices. That is why we have great restaurants, great cars, great computers, great appliances. Every day so many people are working to make thing better. Without capitalsim, life would be ruled by the folks like the D.M.V.

For other deserts to try, I suggest peach cobbler served hot with vanilla bean ice cream. If you have a Chile's restaurant near you, go there and try their Chocolate Molten - that is to die for. And if you can find a recipe, try making a Chocolate Chocolate Chip Zucchini cake made with zucchini squash. That is the most incredibly moist and best tasting cake I have ever had.

I would have been stunned if Yoel didn't love that Southern U.S. classic Pecan pie & am so glad he did. The one that brought tears to my eyes though was how Yoel reacted to Mexican Chocolate Pie. Not to sweet, should be dense but not heavy, hopefully uses Mexican Piloncillo, (cane sugar juice, Mexican Cinnamon and Mexican Vanilla cooked down into a block or cone), course Mexican Chocolate (best ground in a molcajete by an Abuela but Mommas are great too) and some salt and chili for flavor, intrigue and romance.

Yoel was talking about the difficulty of growing pumpkins, it's actually difficult here too and isn't really farmed commercially for food because of that. Most pumpkin pies are actually made with squash that is much easier and profitable to grow. The chances of getting a real pumpkin pie are low unless you buy a pumpkin and make the filling yourself.

Pumpkin is super easy to grow. Certainly not any more difficult than it is to grow any other squash or gourd. The reason they use squash rather than pumpkin is because pumpkin is more difficult to process. The puree doesn't turn out as smooth because pumpkin is stringy and it's not as naturally sweet as other squash. I understood Yoel to be saying pumpkin is seasonal and not available much for that reason.
@theproceedings4050
@theproceedings4050 2 года назад
@@msdarby515 Now that makes more sense, this is why you should never really buy pies, unless it's a local bakery. They're not that hard to just make yourself.

I wonder how good the crust was on the apple. It looked like a crumb topping. I think a double dough crust made tender and flakey is more representative of a tradition apple pie. But, then again, I could be wrong. ;-)
@msdarby515
@msdarby515 2 года назад
@@nateman10 It also makes a big difference what apples are used and spices and how you make the filling. I prefer a tart apple with enough sugar to make the filling juicy and wet so that the juices spill out when the pie is cut and soak up into the crust or mix with melting ice cream. That pie looked dry to me.
