Hi travelers! 😊 I’m a Sicilian guy and I have started to watch your videos some days ago. I fell in love with the style of your videos and watched at least ten of them in less than a week. You are so cute and super cool! When I realized you are in Italy these days I continued watching and understood how beautiful Italy is and how people from abroad really get astonished by it 🇮🇹❤️. Anyway I don’t know if you are still in Sicily but if you are, there are some places I would like to recommend to you (even if you would need a lifetime to visit all Italy and it wouldn’t be enough 😉): the city center of Palermo and of Catania, valley temple in Agrigento, Erice and Siracusa. There are also so many little cute villages (such as Gangi and Marzamemi) but you probably don’t have so much time. I hope it is helpful! Good trip guys! 😉
Enrico, I am an American of Sicilian ancestry. I spent 3 weeks in Sicily last summer, I agree with you about Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, Erice, Trapani. I made it all the way to Enna, starting from Palermo Province. I would also recommend Cefalu, Sciacca, and if someone is interested in archaeology, in addition to the Valley of the Temples, Segesta and Seilinunte are also worth a visit. Piazza Armerina was fascinating as well. Sicily was beautiful. Can't wait to go again. Buon Natale.
Hi! I agree about the other places you mentioned, but my comment was meant to be a little tip for the adventurers, because I knew they would have stayed just a few days. For a longer trip I would have recommended also Marsala and the wines, Scicli and all the Sicilian baroque around Noto, in addition to the ones you mentioned. Ciao e buone feste!
Aaahhh that's the gate of my house at 7:41!! Just before getting to the Greek Theatre :) Everyone stops there to take photos, and especially during the peak tourist season leaving the house and getting back inside through the crowd gets a bit difficult haha! I love seeing visitors enjoying my hometown so much, thank you for showing it in such a lovely light
I was holding my breath when you said dessert. I was hoping you would go to Bam Bar. For anyone reading this comment don't miss visiting here! The granita is spectacular. Visiting Taormina and not stopping at this little cafe defeats the purpose of your trip to Sicily! I attended a night time concert at the Teatro Antico. Completely amazing with Mt.Etna fuming and rumbling in the background. Certainly an event of a lifetime!
My husband and I were in Sicily in September. Beautiful Weather...just an extra layer of Clothes on Mt. Etna. The People, the food...we are seriously thinking about returning next year. Hope you get to see the Greek Temples in Agrigento. A trip of a lifetime!
Isn’t Italy incredible? I stayed in a BnB on lake como that was built 600 years ago. We traveled Italy north to south. The history snd scenery and art and architecture and people and food were stellar. I would love to return as soon as the world returns to normal travel again
to have seen Italy without having seen sicily is to not have seen Italy at all, for sicily is the clue to everything. -goethe Italy has rome and Florence, but sicily is beautiful everywhere, and the vegeatbles and fruits that the island produces the flavors are dialed to 11. even the lemons taste sweet, that's why granita is so good, you can eat Sicilian lemons like a tangerine, the figs are like candy, the apricots are like jam, the mulberrys are a treat, the onions and cauliflower and beans and mint and basil, ebrything just taste better. sicily is the best part of Italy and the Italians treat them like second class citizens
Just an FYI, in Italy what you guys are calling croissants are actually called cornetti or cornetto (singular). Loving the series, Sicily is on my “to see” list and I’m slowly making my way around all of Italy 😊
@@cranci I've bought them numerous times in Rome, Firenze, Venice and Milan and further north from there and they've always been labeled as cornetti/cornetto when I've seen them, I mean how far north in Italy are we talking? like in France?
franco belle You are correct; the Teatro Antico was built originally by the Greeks as a theatre, it was/is NOT a Roman amphitheatre. The Romans did make some alterations later, but it always remained essentially a Greek design and never took on the shape of a Roman amphitheatre as found at the Colosseum in Rome or Arena in Verona. That said, the Romans bricking up perhaps the most spectacular view of any Greek theatre anywhere to be found, did give it a more enclosed feel. Many vloggers, particularly from the US, use the words theatre/amphitheatre interchangeably as though they mean the same thing - they do not!
Thanks for the comment! This theater was actually taken by the Romans at some point. Here's a little snippet from their site "...it was transformed during the Roman times to make room for games and gladiatorial battles". It's pretty amazing though that they still have shows there!
quelodequelo You’re quite correct; regardless of any later alterations made by the Romans, it is clearly a Greek theatre, not a Roman amphitheatre (as you see at the Colosseum in Rome or at the Arena in Verona for example).
I was in Taormina in summer 2011, and I got to see an Italian movie awards show there. We didn't understand a word of it since it was all in Italian haha, but it was still really cool to see.
I was there in May for a wedding. We took a bus up Mt Etna to that coffee shop and walked around that area. It was freezing and very windy! Taormina is so beautiful as well!
Jim Kerr, the lead singer with Simple Minds has a hotel there. I think it is called the Villa Angela? I know someone who stayed there who said it was really good. great video as always!!
I’m so happy you guys got to experience my beautiful Island! Mt. Etna is a crazy volcano but we love it regardless! And I am also glad you enjoyed granita. You can’t really find one that tastes as good it does in Sicily anywhere else...♡
The Med can be a very windy place. I recall taking my life in my hands on the hydrofoil from the Isle of Capri back to Sorrento... The wind just threw it around like a toy... Great Vlog and you can't go too far wrong with fresh, local ingredients in any food... nom nom nom :)
Allison saying "freakin" is just our favorite! haha What was the layer at the bottom of the glass, under the raspberry? Was it like a custard? And Allison's was almond, but what was Eric's? Looked so good!
Great professional video you two !!! I'm Irish , been to the top of Mt Etna, Pompeii , Amalfi coast etc in summer . Never been to the cliffs of Moher, yet to do ! WINDY !! went to Achill Island ! Guinness , more legit Gallic Ireland, loved it !
On your next trip to Sicily, you need to visit Cefalu. It is a seaside town about 50 miles east of Palermo. It is a cute town and you can climb LA Rocca. It has ruins on the top with beautiful views. You also need to check out Scala dei Turchi, which in near Agrigento. You can also contact my friend in Cefalu, Saro Cangelosi. He runs a travel company, GuKan Viaggi(FB page) in Cefalu. If anyone needs assistance traveling around Sicily. You can also go to Corleone Italy, it has a coffee/gelato shop that has pictures of the Godfather movie. Sicily has so many wonderful little towns to explore. Hope to see you on the road.
Sicilian food is the best Italian style food ...like, EVER. My adoptive mother is 100% Italian-Sicilian and let me tell you- I had the best childhood growing. The food was AH-MAZING! And the desserts were even better. It's common for Sicilian pasta to have an egg. And don't be surprised to find anchovies in your pasta. It's a Sicilian thing. Sicily is definitely on my must-go-to bucket list.
Stacey Not sure there is anything that can be labelled ‘Sicilian food’; in common with the rest of Italy, the food varies from region to region and even from town to town. As just one example, the food of Palermo in the North-West is very different from what you will find in Catania on the East coast. That said, Italian is one of the great cuisines of the world and found in every country on the planet. My main tip for any visitors, from the US in particular, is to forget what you get in your local Italian back home and when you are in Italy, just choose local dishes...NOT the old familiar names!
Hi guys. It was surreal to bump into you both in Taromina. We still can not belive, what a small world. Its was reall nice to meet you both. Alison you are so cure. Enjoy rest of your travells. Sending love from London. Dorota and Kevin :)
@The endless adventure Me and my wife really enjoy your videos, we would really love to see you guys travel to Montenegro - there is an amazing area called Kotor bay and the views are out of this world. We have been back there so many times and can’t stop exploring. There is a mountain called Lovcén and you can drive to the top. I feel that too many people have never even heard of this beautiful country but it’s so friendly and safe. It would be really amazing to see you guys do a video there.
I was in Taormina in June 2018 and enjoyed it. They sell raw chestnut honey at the Mt Etna base where the tourist shops and stalls are - such good honey...will never forget it. 😄
Not sure how far back this is worth checking out Sicilian vegetarian dishes Sicily India and japan were the first country’s to pioneer vegetarian cooking it was at one time the law in japan only vegetarian eating
Andrew Bristoe Sicily is an ideal destination for vegans/vegetarians; the quality, variety and imagination of the various food offerings mean that you simply don’t miss meat, even if you are not vegetarian.
Hello Eric and Allison. Thank you for the amazing episodes. Been watching your videos from the start. If you're ever in the Calgary area again, my girlfriend and I, if possible, would love to take you around and show you the sights. Awesome episode from Sicily. Italy's on our bucket list too. Happy travels.
We went the last week of september, it was quite warm(25 degrees). We did a hike at the northeast side, not the south side, with a really nice (knowledgeable and inexpensive) official mountain guide: Anima munti on Instagram! Highly recommended. Love your video! Toarmina is a lot(!) busier in the summertime.
Etna is like the dark side of the moon, amazing, loved our visit. My boys and hubby went up in the 4x4 tour and saw the old chair lifts that had been destroyed by a previous eruption, my sons girlfriend and me wandered the lower levels and perused the coffee shop too. The only downside when we went was the plastic waste everywhere.
Sono lieta di esservi trovati bene....noi siciliani siamo molto accoglienti...io lavoro a Taormina....la granita del bar bambarrrrrr...buonaaaaaaaaa🥰🥰🥰🥰
Have you ever considered doing a calendar?? The locales you go to are so picturesque. And you have really good photography skills. Thanks for your content, going where we can’t and doing what we can’t do.
The first thing I said when I got in from work today was "It must be time for a new EA video..." and sure enough - as I sat down at my computer; there it was! ;) I loved seeing Sicily - one of the only parts of Italy that I've not been to as I've always wondered how easy it is to get around without a car. It does look great!
I went to the top of Etna somewhere back in the mid 1980's. That was middle of Summer. It was not too cold (not exactly that warm either) and the wind was certainly more or less the same as you guys had. Pretty sure it's always like that up there.
Drouin Johnny Mount Etna is absolutely not ‘...the most active volcano in the world’. If you go to Italy (Italia), or visit Sicily (Sicilia) in particular, then the island of Stromboli (stress on the first syllable), one of the seven volcanic Aeolian Islands (Isole Eolie) just off the north coast is more active than Etna. You can do regular early evening boat trips to watch the natural firework display that happens every half hour or so.
Sicily is so cute, and picturesque looking but also beautiful too! It’s absolutely amazing! I’d have loved to have that dessert, I looked amazing and the volcano!! 🌋 it would have been so cool to climb up to see it properly!! But alas it was waaaay to windy! It was still beautiful though, definitely loved this video! Can’t wait for the next one!
Ok, BEST travel edit of the week. Guessing even Kara and Nate, Flying the Nest and Daneger and Stacey are impressed by this series! And always funny too :) Special thanks for keeping Foodie finds in each episode. Best wishes, James and Kim
I was there a few years ago and some of the beautiful greek ruins in Selinunte and Castelvetrano very cool small town with the best mortadella I ever had.
We were there in October. The theater was in better shape - seats near the bottom and a wooden platform stage. Knew the stage was coming down as the season was over. Etna WAS WINDY for us too. Wish I could post a few photos here to share - Gondolas to take tourists higher up the mountain, etc.
Mark DiGennaro The theatre is fitted out with proper seating and all the correct safety features during the summer when there is a full season of concerts, bands, opera, visiting orchestras, etc. During the rest of the year it is largely stripped back to the ancient BC basics; ‘...in better shape’ is a bit harsh!
Hi we are visiting Taomina in October this year and don’t know what to expect weather wise - any advice on what type of clothes to pack would be much appreciated
@@chrissie.0864 Wish I could offer specific advice, but I cannot. I suggest you view weather forecasts for the week you are going. The difference between early October and late can be very drastic when thinking of packing clothes!
I visited Mount Etna in late June (nearly ten years ago) and we did a bus tour that brought us all the way up to the top. It was definitely much colder and windier than at ground level, though not nearly as bad as in your video; we were reasonably comfortable in jeans and hoodies. The views from the top were absolutely spectacular. I definitely recommend going if you ever get the chance to go back in warmer weather.
There are times of the year when you can ski on Etna in the morning, then go down to the beach and swim in the sea in the afternoon. The difference in temperature can sometimes be more than 20C.
Try Cassata Siciliana in Palermo. Granita, gelato you can get anywhere in Italia. Cassata unique to Sicilia and when in Palermo, downtown, find it year round...ask around, 2 fine pastry shops are famous for it.
5:04 How delicious that coffee looks! Same for that at 13:59! Just like an espresso beverage served "for here (or there)" at some coffee shops in my native Missouri.
My wife and I were in Taormina (and all around Sicily) on our honeymoon last year! Probably early-May-ish 2018? Such an adorable town. Did you take the hanging gondola down to the water to see Isola Bella? It was pretty incredible. We didn't make the trek up to Mt Etna, we decided we'd rather hang in town or at our Airbnb with a glass of wine and admire it from a distance instead, haha.
According to Wikipedia Mount Etna has erupted many times in the 20th Century, so it looks like your postcard was very authentic. Wow, going up the side of an active Volcano is so cool. Very nice editing and storytelling.
Elizabeth McIntosh ‘Southern Italy’ is far too big for a single entry on your bucket list - not big in terms of size, big in terms of the long list of things it would be criminal to miss if you don’t give it the time it deserves. This country is exceptionally rich in places to visit and is largely spectacularly beautiful too; the country also has by far the largest number of UNESCO world heritage sites of any country in the world - could find at least 20 individual places to visit in the South, and by visit, I mean more than 2 hours. Do your research! November weather is usually fine and better than most of the rest of Europe (I’ve swum in the sea), however, it can rain.
The cycling Giro d'Italia has included a Stage finishing on Mount Etna. It was beautiful to watch but I don't think they climbed as high as you did. They certainly didn't face that wind.
Most people think that all of Sicily is dominated by Mount Etna. Yes, Mount Etna is very large and very high, 3345 Meter. But Sicily is a huge island and the west coast isn't affected by Etna at all. And Mount Etna is not very active, it has been active non stop for at least 5000 years.
italy is the second most beautiful country in europe and is sooo worth the hype. a month ago i would've said it was the no one most beautiful in europe but it's been dethroned by ireland.

When I saw that wind I thought of Moher, where I have had my breath taken away many times. I'd forgotten you had been there. Its beautiful in summer , too , mind.
lol for me the postcard is absolutely normal since etna erupts multiple times every year, just search some videos! right now in the last days she gave us some serious shows!
Rachel Gillen It is clearly not an amphitheatre which is an enclosed round or oval shape as in the Colosseum in Rome or the Arena in Verona; it was built originally by the Greeks as a theatre, and later modified by the Romans.
