Trying Something Different in Our Community Garden
It is finally time for us to open up our plot in our community garden /allotment garden here in zone 5 Wisconsin. And this season we are starting by planting our winter squash.
This year we are growing: Kabocha squash, Spaghetti squash, Canada Crookneck squash, Delicata Squash, and Butternut Squash.
One of the issues we have had to deal with over the past few years has been the challenge of dealing with the immense number of weeds that are all over the community garden space, so this season we are using some of the same black plastic we have used in years past over our sweet potatoes, and we are surrounding the squash and other plants with grass as a mulch.
Our hope is that this reduces the amount of maintenance we need to complete in this space over the course of this season.
