Does using Mod Podge over a stencil help with bleed? How about painting the stencil the same color as the base before you use the stencil color? We are going to try these hacks to see what works and what doesn't. Using our Cricut to create the stencil out of vinyl and then trying these tricks on a wood cutout to see how well they work!
Do you think its going to make a difference? Have you ever tried stenciling this way? What is your favorite way to do stencils?

Well I kind of stumbled on to this video of yours & because I am trying some crafts right now, I was wondering about stenciling on wood! Thanks for the great video, it was fast simple and well explained. The only stencils I have the are premade type as I don't own a vinyl cutting machine. I have a die cutting machine by another "sizzling" company. LOL!! Have a great day & Thanks again!!

A few other things I've found that help: DO NOT use a brush. Use a foam dabber and dab the paint on straight down. Makes a huge difference in bleeding and run-off and is much more controllable. DO NOT let the paint dry completely. If it does, you run the risk of pulling up the grain of the wood when you take the vinyl up. Try to do it a few minutes after application when the paint is tacky but not fully dried. It holds onto the vinyl much less. Use a cheap airbrush (the $60 handheld battery operated ones from Amazon are great for this) and do super light coats, a few minutes apart. The first coat will act as a sealant and the subsequent applications will adhere to that. If you're using an airbrush or a rattle can and you put down the first layer and can't see any of the wood (or whatever else you're painting) underneath, you went too heavy and will likely get bleed. Lastly, the brayer is your best friend. Roll it over the vinyl once it's applied over and over, particularly if your font is a thin script! Try to avoid the scraper, especially with thinner fonts, since the scraper will almost definitely pull up some of the vinyl. Those are all things I learned the hard way and I hope they help someone!

Oh one more tip: Water based poly is a great alternative to mod podge, is a lot thinner, a lot cheaper, and a lot easier to apply, and while it may not dry as fast, it does stop the bleeding just as good if not better. Minwax polycrylic is my go-to.

Spray shellac is the best, and dries in 15 minutes 😊

I am just starting into stenciling and have probably watched the same videos as you. The ones that I watched used mostly paint on painted areas and used mod podge on stained areas. Have you tried using it on stained wood as a sealant before stenciling? Especially starting out a lot of us are using the less expensive wood for signs since it is cheap and if the project does not go right, we are only out time and very little money. Any help or suggestions is appreciated. Thanks for the video.

I personally hate mod podge in all forms. I wouldn’t recommend it ever for anything but to use as a glue honestly. If you are doing stained wood I would seal the stain with polycrylic then use polycrylic to seal your stencil

anyone know of this Mod Podge works with Armor Etch? I like making slate cheese boards but vinyl doesn't stick well and it bleeds. Thanks!
@CorinneBlackstone
@CorinneBlackstone Год назад
No. You shouldn’t put anything between the glass and the etching cream
@U2NEESA1
@U2NEESA1 Год назад
Sorry, not glass , slate? Armor etch works great on it but it’s difficult to get the vinyl to stick. Glass makes sense but these cheese boards can certainly look sloppy if you’re not careful.

Hi Corinne. I need your help I have not been on my Cricuit for a few months and I noticed they did an update to 7.13. They’re talking about bookmarks for fonts. It says just click the bookmark icon so you can use it later to find your saved fonts and then it says click the font selector than the bookmark tab.. note: System fonts you bookmark will only be saved on that device also the fonts that support your language of choice use the new language filter. So my question is I don’t see my fonts there no more. they’re not in the bookmark where did they go can you help me find them??
@CorinneBlackstone

Did you bookmark the fonts? You have to actually click the little icon in order for them to be saved there

Every time I try to paint and let it dry it will pull up the paint and looks awful when I remove the stencil. No idea what I do wrong.
@CorinneBlackstone
@CorinneBlackstone 2 года назад
It might be your paint is too thick
@vincentferrari
@vincentferrari 2 года назад
Don't let it dry; that's your problem. Let it dry just enough so it isn't runny, then take the stencil up immediately. When the paint dries, it adheres to the vinyl and the material and wants to flake, chip, and tear. When it's slightly tacky it's much easier to pull away.
