The little black board reads "Andaaz Apna Apna" a popular bollywood/hindi film from the early 90s. Also Andaa is hindi for egg , it's a play on the word egg.
Excellent review as always UA, especially an unusual (for you) one like this! My wife and I are literally just about to sit dow to a take-out Indian dinner, including a couple of vegetarian dishes, and we agree, no one does vegetarian like Indian cuisine!!
The "joke" poster on the wall, in Hindi eggs are pronounced as "Andaas" and there was a cult movie from back in the day here in India called "Andaz Apna Apna" (1994) (Roughly translated to: To Each Their Own), so the pun is replacing "Andaz" with :Andaas" (eggs), basically just like everyone has their own traits and characteristics (Hindi: Andaz) similarly the chickens too have their own "Andaas" (Eggs). I know it sounds very lame when you break it down like that but this is a very old and recurring pun here in India, I think it was even used in the National Egg Campaign to get people to consume eggs for their nutritional value. Cheers.
You mentioned you wanted other recommendations for Indian food. I had eaten at Cafe Spice a couple of times in the city. It was pretty tasty. But I’m sure there is plenty Indian restaurants but this one was i think worth a try.
Tikka masala popular in the UK for a while? Mate not even joking, Tikka masala was invented in the UK (look it up)... Indian food is never going anywhere, its a part of tue national cuisine!😂
We love Indian food and the culture! Our Indian restaurant that relocated from Edison out to PA just comped our meals for us this week as we're both just getting back to work and pretty much lost everything this year and have been trying to regain our footing.
Very nice UA! When I lived in England, Indian was the go-to fast food. Here, it's White Castle 😂😂(2 minutes from me) So... The dishes (Don't remember the names, going in order) 1. Looks absolutely delicious. I like the unmelted cheese. Think finishing cheeses in many cultures. (Feta, pecorino, cotija...) I have been playing with masala at home, and that's definitely mixed with the yolk, and my guess probably a little yogurt. My favorite of the 3. 2. The curry looks great, but there's so much more visceral information I would need to chime in. Very nice, I'm sure. 3. Love the volcano, definitely thinking mashed potatoes! I will always try the heat and take the overkill! Great lunch dish there. I also loved the cheese throughout the dishes. I'm darn good at cooking eggs, but this is all phenomenal. Thanks for another awesome review!
Surti means from Surat which is in Gujarat. Most of Jersey Indian migrants are from Gujarat in India. Theyre a bit fanatical about Vegetarianism..so the men tend to eat eggs outside their Vegetarian homes and the egg recipes have gone pretty extreme . Surat and Baroda especially! Ghotala means a jumbled mess or mixture. So Ghotala from Surat.
That biriyani just looked wrong Putting cheese on biriyani is a crime And biriyani shouldn’t be “wet” It’s mostly dry rice with some mixture of thick masala and meat Again there are multiple types of biriyani
Moksha in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Best Indian food in the world. Grandma who is Indian and 85 says she never needs to go back to India for good Indian food again
I had a searingly hot AF habanero lamb at an Indian resto and it was epic and I'll never forget it! Sometimes you have to brave it and sweat it out! I did have to order some beer and tea afterward!
Food looks decent, but I think a place that size should have a smaller menu, because they're clearly duplicating ingredients on several dishes. It's better to have fewer dishes done well IMO.
@@uaeats friend of mine from college was from Cherry Hill, huge Eagle fan like you, sadly he is no longer with us, that movie reminds me of him. I agree the first one is amazing.
If you ever get a chance to try a nepali hakka restaurant I'd recommend any sort of dish that offers dragon flavoring, preferably Dry which I prefer but I encourage you to try the gravy version as well, dragon fish dry, dragon paneer dry, dragon chicken dry etc etc
I think eggs are delicious to begin with so I would like to see s a bigger challenge by finding a good restaurant that makes all-vegetable dishes taste delicious.
Anda (pronounced undah) is Egg in Hindi ( and a few other Indian languages) and Andaaz means taste or style, and that sounds like the plural of Anda. So it's a horrid pun. Andaaz apna apna! ( Apna means oneself) So translates loosely as Eggs to everyone's taste / style!
NYC is definitely not the Indian food capitol. However, If you want great Pakistani or Bangladeshi food in NYC, definitely head to Jackson Heights, Jamaica, LIC/south Astoria or Kensington BK. Just a warning, their cuisine is meat heavy unlike Indian cuisine.
They could do a little to improve the presentation, like I dont know, put some herbs on top of the dishes. A little bit of green can really improve how it looks without almost no effort.
I don't agree. I love naan as much as the next guy but not all Indian food is meant to be eaten with it. This restaurant in fact does not even carry naan, they only had chapati
@@tuesdave6969 Back about 40 years ago, the term "vegetarian" was closer to "vegan" in meaning. If eggs and milk are okay, we called those folks "ovo-lacto-vegetarians," which is what, apparently, "vegetarian" implies today.
