The first energy drink I ever saw was when I was in college in 1985. It was called Jolt and the slogan on the can said, "All of the sugar and twice the caffeine." That was pretty hilarious considering it was right in the middle of that health craze. I never drink energy drinks because I think they taste horrible but about 20 yrs ago, I bought one just for the can. It's called Whoop Ass and I still have the can.

That Japanese advertisement was so weirdly hilarious. And is the fibre that they added in that Coke called inulin by any chance? I notice this inulin gets added to almost everything these days. I find it in random things like chocolate, drinks, even chewing gum. I think they do it to market the food as "high in fibre".

The fiber in the Japanese fiber plus Coca Cola is actually “dietary fiber”, which can be found in plant food. You need the fiber to stimulate bowel movement and that’s one of the main reasons why you need to consume vegetables every day.

@@blugill2273 Tbf, coffee has more caffeine on average than most energy drinks. I think a big part of the problem stems from the marketing. Not only is a lot of it clearly targeted at teenagers, they are also sold in larger cans than e.g. coffee. It also has to be said tho that most cases of heart disease in young people that have been linked to energy drinks were caused by long term consumption of excessive amounts. So yeah, unless you have a serious energy drink addiction or underlying heart issues, you should be fine.

Just curious: Have you two seen Bob Ross’s painting tutorials before? In the US, they used to be on our public TV stations in the 80s. Bob was known for having a very calming voice. When he taught viewers how to paint landscapes, he’d talk a lot about painting “happy little trees.”
