Aussie here, the price difference might not seem a lot in usd but in aud there’s a larger difference. For example the flawless filter in aus is 70 dollars while the the mcobeauty one is around 30 dollars, also something to note is that a lot of places where mcobeauty is stocked have frequent sales and you can get the products for a lot cheaper !!

Cosmetics that are imported into Australia are so much more expensive than the same product in US/UK or Europe. Also, there are lots of brands who don’t ship to Australia at all. Hello, Merit Beauty, Glossier, Rhodes and so many others. So dupe brands in Australia don’t just offer a slightly cheaper product; sometimes the difference is $50 or is actually the only option for customers in Australia to access a similar product, particularly in regional areas outside of big cities.

So the answer to the question "how many dupes do we need?" The mascara is the “backbone” that MCo beauty has been made on. It’s not a dupe for anything it’s their own formula. It is incredibly popular and you can often get a tube for $12-$15 at the supermarket. The Australian makeup market is heavily impacted by conversion rates and shipping costs. It often makes ranges like Glossier and Charlotte Tilbury out of reach for the masses.

I worked at a company who manufacture and distribute the generic OTC drugs, health and beauty aids, vitamins and several other categories. For example if you see the equate brand at Walmart it's probably from this company. I spent 7 years in chemistry and the last 3 years in Regulatory Affairs heading the Department of Health and Beauty Aids. According to what the laws were when I worked there, making "dupes" is fine as long as you don't violate patents. Where this company could get in trouble is that the packaging cannot be "confusingly similar" to the main brand. Maybe it's fine in Australia but they could get a hit on that here. If they came to me to get that packaging approved I would say no way. By the way, I did a lot of testing comparing National brand OTC drugs to some of the generic ones and side by side the generic products generally tested quicker acting and more effective. Especially with SPF products. Now, it's been some time since I worked there and there's a lot more companies making SPF products now but I would say if you're buying it from the drugstore, save your money folks and choose the generic.

I own a lot of MCo beauty and have reviewed most of their range. They have definitely leant (in recent years) into duping not only formula but now packaging, which really put them on the map in Australia, as it was a much more affordable option but just as good in quality. It’ll be interesting to see how this translates in USA. I can confirm though, the quality is very impressive to their OG competitors.

So I personally don't have the budget for high-end products so I appreciate drugstore brands stepping up their game in the last couple of years. I would say 90% of my makeup is drugstore-priced makeup. I do not have a problem with brands taking inspiration from other brands and offering a budget-friendly version as long as there aren't any patent or copyright violations. For instance, Charlotte Tilbury did not lose me as a customer when Elf duped their products because I was never going to buy from Charlotte Tilbury and was already an avid Elf customer.

Really good to see these dupes because here in Australia we do not get a great range of Elf in stores and there’s not many stores that stock even a skeleton range, and it’s not as cheap to get it on the website… when Elf came out with their halo glow dupe, I could never find it, but I can buy MCO beauty. Cosmetic prices in Australia are wild. Elf Halo Glow Liquid Filter is $35. Elf Contour Wand is $29. Elf Camo Blush is $20. You can see why companies like MCo (used to be named Model Co) exist here. Products that are called "drugstore" prices in the US are priced pretty highly here, certainly not the "drugstore" prices you enjoy there. The problem is not just pricing either. We usually don't get the brands you do but also the product range within the brands. It's so frustrating as a makeup lover.

Aussie here - love the Xtend lash mascara! It’s been around for quite some time. I *believe* they took inspiration from the Kevyn Aucoin tubing mascara, but this was back when the brand was not trying so hard to create a very similar looking packaging. It probably is the most if not one of the most popular mascaras in Australia, based on what I’ve seen in beauty FB groups. Aussie here & I’m thankful for companies like this that dupe products. It is so frustrating watching influencers show & rave about products that we just can’t even get here from overseas websites because they don’t ship here let alone in physical stores (Merit comes to mind). Luxury/high end products that we can get here are more expensive and then if we have to pay postage from overseas in some cases we’re paying as much for postage as the product itself. I just hope McoBeauty dupe more of the brands/products like Merit that we can’t get here.

Small brands don’t always have access to innovations. A lot of times labs only offer large successful companies contracts for their new formulas in order to launch it, and often there are exclusivity rights given to that brand for a period of time. When the exclusivity expires, other brands get access to the formula or packaging and can make their versions. It’s corporate lab hierarchy. I see it time and time again in my field (perfumery). New aromatics are only released to the luxury brands to secure the success of that material by way of largest volume and largest profit margin, then later it trickles down to smaller producers.

What a fun video!!! I can’t really tell much of a difference between them. Will be great for people wanting to save money. Reminds me of the dossier dupe perfumes! There’s definitely a place in the market for it! 😊

Australian here! I have been using the MCO beauty tubing mascara for years it really hits the mark of quality and cost and is one of their oldest most popular products. The thing is this brand is most commonly found in supermarkets and is often on sale and 1/2 price. Most of the brands that we can get in Australia are much more expensive than in the US or we just can’t get here- that includes the affordable brands. For many Australians buying charlotte Tilbury just isn’t available in their town hence the popularity of the dupes. I haven’t really delved into their dupes much I am lucky being near a major city I have much more access to a variety of brands. Having said that if I had access to this brand 10 years ago when I was living in rural towns I would have been all over that!

MCo didn't used to be all about dupes, and I believe the xtendlash mascara is a holdover from that time (it is the mascara I use, but I also buy it on sale).

total speculation here but the mascara immediately reminded me of the look of the Mecca Max tubing mascara (pastel pink tube, shiny gold cap). the mecca tubing mascara is my absolute fav since the thrive isn’t available here in Aus :) thanks for this video!! loved it

I feel like the brands are working really well with the new products launched. I also have zero issues with dupes and love to have the opportunity to buy some similar products. But felt like the blush got a little patchy.

Omfg I love this brand. I've been using it for ages as I live in Australia. 💝💝 The flawless filter by Mcobeauty I love. In my experience, It out performed the OG Charlotte!! The concealer that duped the Nars is actually my favourite everyday concealer!! I find the shade ramge is less but it kind of adapts to your skin tone. The Mascara I believe is a Dupe for the Kevin Aquan Mascara.

They are “able to (dupe) it” because they aren’t worried about having to pay the workers hardly anything. Safety and quality should matter more to consumers, as well as human rights.

The mascara and a few other pink packaged products remind me of Neutrogena. My mascara is in a silver and blue tube, but it’s the waterproof version.

The reason it sounds so expensive is because they have to charge extra for overseas shipping all their products over there to stock. Here in Australia we’re paying less than 30 Australian dollars for the MCO flawless glow because we obviously don’t have to pay extra for the overseas shipping. Over here we have to pay so much extra on the big US brands because of the shipping price so this brand is really good pricing for us so we don’t need to spend so much on the big brands, they are unfortunately just getting too expensive and unaffordable over in Aus

I'm from NZ and that is my favourite mascara. Easily. The only one that's close to it for me is the Kevin Aucoin's tubing one. The brown-black shade is beautiful, it's on sale super cheap all the time. It was part of their earliest launches that weren't dupes, just lowkey good products. The switch to dupe is a relatively new strategy, I don't know if they got bought or what.

Having watched this in such detail was great and I’m going to try this brand now especially as it is on sale here in Aus. Elf is good but it is not cheap here in Aus. Their foundations are around $30 which is not cheap.

One of the things I like best about the CT wands is the wear time. My blush and highlight looks the same at night when I’m taking off my makeup as it does when I first apply it. How do these dupes wear?

Hi Allie, as a Australian MCO beauty is popular here, however I haven’t tried any of their products, the reason is the price, yes they are lower prices than the high end products but for a dupe product MCO beauty is still high on the drugstore prices, Elf’s halo glow here is around $35, and US $14, so it makes you think is the dupe really worth buying, Allie the MCO beauty tubing mascara can it look like the Rare beauty one?. Love Katherine xoxo

I didn’t realise it was duping Kevin aucoin, I’ve used this for a while as I wanted to try the thrive but didn’t want the hassle of getting it shipped from the US. I like this for everyday chilled look especially in the black/brown shade.

The other shade of the Mco beauty contour wand looks super dark but once blended out it’s the perfect contour shade and I think is a closer match to Charlottes. Also in another video I saw someone said the mascara was supposed to be duping a Kevin Aucoin mascara but I’m not sure.
