Thanks Steve for the information I'm still saving up for a new reel to go with the Ripping Lips bait casting rod I won last month. Tight lines and Big Cats brother and sisters and much peace and love from northeast Texas 🤠
Steve I just bought my first catmax. Hoping to use it this weekend. I'm a big Abu Garcia fan. So I'm looking forward to see how the catmax holds up for me.
I'm trying to figure out how to cast my baitcaster so I thought I'd check this video out.... was glad for the tip about wrapping ur line around something if ur trying to get it out from being hung up.. If I hadn't seen this I would probably be feeling pretty sick after doing the same thing.. Thank you!
I bought 2 of these reels because of your recommendation. The only thing I wish they had was more line capacity. Dragging a dragon tail rig in deep water leaves your spool a bit skinny.
Yeah buddy, those are good rods and reels, the first year I saw them in the BPS catalog, I ordered two of the combos, but I got the 10’ ft rods, I got one for my oldest son and one for myself and they were fantastic! My son used to fish paylakes for big cats, course he was doing that mainly for the tournament’s and won a pile of money back then, were talking the late 90’s , but he liked that Catmaxx outfit so much that he bought 2 more I believe, from some of his winnings too. That was back when the catmaxx rods had cork handles, genuine cork handles. Anyways, yeah good stuff Steve!
I got my first Cat Maxx reel the other day. I haven't had the opportunity to go try it out yet because I'm still waiting for my new TWC rods to arrive.
Great reels if you fish from a boat with circle hooks . Still not done an upgrade to the clicker in over 20 years but if you don't use a bait clicker much you can't beat these reels.
Good information and proves the point that you can buy much more expensive reels and rods, but that doesn’t mean it will out perform a combo costing 1/3 or more less. I used the Shakespeare tidewater reels to fish striper tournaments trolling umbrella rigs. They cost around $40 each and I consistently beat guys every tournament that would brag about their $300 reels every month.
Never had an issue with Cat Maxx. I still use a set of the original grey ones. That white though, I agree that had to go. Did you get any fish while you was out there?
Hey Steve I'm trying to decide on your corner t bar package deals. I was wondering what's the purpose behind your setup with the two talons added on the outside.
Hey Steve I’ll take that old reel from you if you don’t want it anymore??? I’ll see if I can fix it and then I’ll use it to see how the cat max reels do!! I’ve never used the cat max reels!! I’ve went to bass pro shops several times in my area and every time I go in I check to see if they have any!! Every time I check they never have any so for the past two years I’ve been trying to get one but they are out of them or just don’t have them & id definitely love to give them a try!!!!
I had the same problem. The shuttle screw bushing, very thin plastic piece, went out on 3 of mine. Tried looking up the part, called manufacturer and bass pro with no luck on getting a replacement part.
Bingo. That’s why I stay away from junk. All reels can/will break. Difference is part availability. Of course a 40 dollar reel you could just rebuy I guess
I started out with the cat max reals because of you were using them and I still use some but the clicker is the only thing I don’t like about them. I wish they had taken your suggestion and reworked the clicker.
Im confused as to why it would break the line guide pulling on it like that. There's no pressure being applied to the line guide unless you were pulling at an angle maybe?
i know about thieves... had 2 $200 rods/reels and 10 $30-40 rods/reels stolen out of my boat 5yrs ago... due to health issues I've still not fully recovered from that. so i started using the cheaper Walmart brands, which have worked out pretty good for me
I don't want to brag, but about a year ago i contacted Bass Pro and told them to take a look at your channel and that you used the CatMaxx reels for all your catfishing needs, he informed me he was going to look into you and see what you thought about the reels, he also said he was going to try and get you a sponsorship, if that happens i would sure like to hear about it, it couldn't happen to a better person, keep the big cats coming
Bass pro reels suck but if you buy the top dollar models, maybe they hold up. They still use plastic type gears. How expensive is an extra brass or metal gear? My cat maxx level wind went out in one summer. Bass pro charges $30+ to fix a reel when adding shipping. I've had 4 different bass pro reels around $50 to $70 and they all went to hell on me.
@@tonybaloney5606 put braid on a different rod and reel with as much tension as possible and set the drag fairly loose. Then lace up the reel you want spooled so you’ll have 2 different rods tied together then use the one that you’re re spooling to pull the line off the other.... make sense???
@@smokingbigflatties9839 makes alot of sense. I'll give it a try next time I buy braid. I'm using mono all this year. I appreciate it. And Steve...keep them vids coming! I love em.
Do you people that are fishing for catfish, I realize you do a lot of catch and release, but do you ever take any meat home for the freezer, cause that's the way I was raised
He said he got 3 or 4 years out of it, lol. Ive had an abu c3 since the 90s and its still rollin. You get what you pay for. Not to mention the fact that these are made in china.
