Hey, tip for opaque stampers! Instead of pushing the stamper onto your nail, try keeping the stamper standing up and put your nail on it so you can see the image while your stamping it💕
In terms of product design this feels like the first prototype that’s created to test if the material works at all. Which it does. Now they need to refine it. Create something that’ll hold the stamper and have a mechanism that’ll help someone push on it to uniformly stretch it so it’s not wonky. And it should be clear!!! This seems so obvious why didn’t they do thi
Guess who's gonna wait for the future video using a clear stamper as a shrinking stamper? Anyway I think it's a great idea, but also I am so used to doing my stamping choosing what part of the design I want on my nail, that I don't even think that I want all the design on my nails anymore lol. Honestly so curious about other experimenting videos!
The clear stamper isn’t squishy enough to be used as a shrinking stamper. That’s why they sell both stampers. It has to do with its material makeup that makes it clear. It keeps it unable to stretch as much without ripping. It would be great if they created a new material that is clear and able to stretch. Fingers crossed!
I've heard that the clear stampers aren't stretchy enough to use that way. They tend to tear more easily when stretched. So, I would suggest using one that you aren't worried about destroying.
Whoah, that's a lot of attempts 😂 Thank you for your determination! That was definitely interesting to watch. And you just inspired me to redo my manicure tonight. Time to get the stamper out of the box!
I LOVE this video because it shows how much work goes into the work you do and also to get to the skill level you have. Sometimes I think we get discouraged by influencers being so good at what they do, but this video shows how much work is being done behind the scenes. Thanks 🙌🏼
OMG, by the time I were able to master this technique, my nails would have grown enough to not need the shrunk version of the designs. Thank you for your patience and great explanation, Kelli. You always create super professional and beautiful videos.
I remember the non-clear stamping days too! That and ruining the stamper with acetone was what strayed me away... but nonetheless, I mainly do free hand nail art now! :D
I love me some maniology, I have hundreds of products, but Clear Jelly Stampers has a marshmallow stamper for shrinking images. They are only $2! For shrinking the images I just hold the stamper, upside down, pinch the edges together with both hands and stamp the image directly. You decrease the issue of the image drying on the clear stamper before you can shrink it. I actually DM'd you my Beetlejuice nails on Insta, where all the images have been shrunk cause I have small nails too. The only tip I have for stamping with an opaque stamper is just lots of practice and rolling that image. Hope this helps!
I’ve been doing this for a while using one of my clear stampers. I sort of stretch it and then pick up the image on the stretch stamp. It is harder to keep the stretching even, but it totally works with clear stampers!
If it helps, I recently purchased a 1.5 inch silicone o-ring gasket for a hot water heater, to help the stamper stretch the images evenly... I know it sounds strange but it fits my large marshmallow stamper head perfectly! I also have a baby bottle lid with the nipple removed that fits my Maniology double sided neon shrinking stamper. I wish I could post a picture or video to show you. They both work really well to evenly stretch the stamper heads. Just be carful not to press too hard. I’m sure it could do some damage.
I just use my clear pureen stamper from Walmart. It is soft enough to pinch in at 4 corners stamp the image, release and stamp right on you nail and you can see where to place it. It still takes a little practice and the use of both hands, but it works.
I have a few thoughts to share regarding the shrinking stamper system. First, rather than stamping down on the nail, try to hold the stamper with the stamp facing up and place your nail over the stamp rather than vice versa. It’s a lot easier to line your nail up over the stamp. It’s still tricky to get things *perfectly* lined up, but it’s waaay easier to end up with something successful than stamping blind from above. Second, I had the same idea about using the clear stamper as the shrinking piece of the equation and did EXACTLY WHAT YOU PREDICTED... ACK! Ripped my stamper. Boo! Third, I wish this system came with some kind of clear plastic ring that you could push down over the sticky stamper and stretch the sticky stamper evenly to avoid the wonky unevenly shrunken stamp. I may try to McGuyver something. If I get anywhere, I’ll report back. Thanks as always for your excellent videos. Your nail polish application and the production quality of your videos is by far the best of any I’ve come across. It’s really a pleasure to watch you work!
Ooh thanks for sharing your discoveries Jen!! I'm glad I didn't attempt it with my clear one for this video haha. And yeah I think some sort of ring stretcher thing would make a huge difference as I never got to stretch the stamper totally evenly!! 😪 It's certainly fun to experiment though haha!!
It’s super fun and it makes so many images usable in a way they wouldn’t be otherwise, just have to be okay with a bunch of attempts. I love your idea of making them into decals for more precise placement. Do you trim your decals before applying them? I always get ugly bumps, bubbles, and ripples along the edges when I make decals. Or do you make the decals large enough to cover the whole nail?
Thanks for posting this! I decided to try to stretch a back up stamper I had from what’s up nails that I’d mistreated (there was a time I didn’t know they don’t like acetone) over a maniology bottle and that seemed to work... until it started to rip. Do be careful if you try!
not sure if nail tutorial or motivational video on perseverance. well done, kelli! p.s. what if you made marks at 3, 6, 9, and 12, so at least you know where the center is?
I like the idea that you could distort the image in a variety of ways depending on how you pull the yellow stamper head. Not just to shrink. (Think carnival funny mirror)
I agree! I've been hunting for that video as well. Although, after binge-watching many Kelli videos we can probably guess at some of them... we know the Cuccio base & high gloss top, & the Orly bonder base... and I'd guess the OPI matte top (perhaps also HT's matte). But, yes, please miss Kelli, I second that vote for base, top, & matte faves video. You and Cristine have taught & inspired me so very much for nail decorating joy! Thank you.
Thank you for reviewing this stamper! I'm so into stamping lately (and I have and love both your plates)! I knew I'd heard about shrinking the designs somewhere before but I couldn't remember. lol I'll be picking this up with my next Maniology order. By the way, I can't wait for your Orly collab polishes to launch!!! I bought the Day Trippin' collection because of your swatch and review video and I'm feelin Orly these days.
What an interesting way to shrink the design! I've always just held the squishy stamper head and used both pointer fingers and thumbs to stretch the stamper. I'll have to try the hack of putting it on a polish bottle! Also, here's some tips: The decal option is the easiest way to do this with super detailed designs. When trying to apply from opaque stamper it is easier to line up the design beside your nail and roll it on, it would be so much easier if you can hold your finger and stamper up to your face while doing it. But I imagine that would be an awkward camera angle for you 😂 Some fine details can be lost when trying to stamp so that's important to keep in mind when picking a design.
I find that most of the time when people talk about spooky experiences it can be attributed to sleep paralysis and the sleep/wake state you mentioned, even though we all love a ghost story!
This works great, but double stampers have existed for years. In fact I have one where both stampers are clear, but I honestly just use the technique where you stretch the stamper back (kinda like you did the yellow) before picking up on an image. It works pretty well with practice, and skips a step.
@@KelliMarissa Watch Guylene325's review of the Maniology stamper, she shows how you used it, then the technique I mentioned. I find it much easier, but it might not be for everyone!
Kelli I have many clear stampers and replacement heads. I will try it with a clear head. I think it will work. Thanks for the idea of placement over a Polish bottle for stretching and the great review.
Ah, the old struggles of opaque stampers. I remember when the first clear stampers came out and I felt like they were the most revolutionary nail art innovation in modern history! lol
Thanks for your video! I do know that the reason they have the opaque stamper for shrinking is because it’s more resilient than clear stampers and endure the stretching, while clear stampers can rip apart easier.
WOW! That shrunken design with the metallic polish looked exactly like DIAMONDS on your nails!!! Super cool accidental effect! Thank you for trying this out! XOXO Heidi
Oh my... i had no idea that existed ! Thanks for showing us ! And that’s actually such a brilliant idea, as you explained how it worked i was like oh my god of couuurse 😂 cause i couldn’t figure out how you could shrink a stamp 😅 that is so amazing i really want one now !!! Me and my small nails need it 😍
I tried this a few weeks ago using two clear stampers, one being much bigger than the other and it WORKS! Thank you for explaining everything so nicely as always! You should try it with two clear stampers, the exact same technique
I use a clear (!) sticky stamper for this, and it works perfectly :D And also a slimmer polish cap to push the stamper head over, i find that you have more control over it this way :D
Thank you so much for trying this for us! i have very short and narrow nails so i really wasn't thinking i could do this. i was wondering, could you use gel polish for the stamp so it doesn't dry fast on you? I'm new to nail stuff so sorry if this is a stupid question. keep up the great videos with your happy, sunny disposition it's such a joy to watch
Yesss. I'd love to see a video about stamping WITHOUT stamping polish. I've only used holo taco brand to stamp so idk if its just me, or if that's just what it does. 🤷♀️ so I cannot wait to see that video, ma'am 😁
hi, wonderful video, as always!! I do have a shrinking stamper from another brand for some years now, a lot of the opaque stampers work - very cheap stampers too. I tried with my clear stamper once and it survived the first careful try - a second, a bit bolder try broke it.
Great video! Thank you Kellie doing above and beyond :) I don’t know if I’ll try this method myself. I do remember seeing a similar way on the maniology Facebook live streams. Shrinking stamps, by holding a stamper tightly and picking up the design straight from the plate.
I am so glad you did this review! I have shorter Nails as well and find it hard to get full images onto my nails. I had been looking into this but I wasn't sure if it actually worked. Such a great video and thank you for all of your tips. I am definitely going to buy this... completely unrelated I went on Amazon and bought the 24 10 oz bottles of modelones gel polish and totally blamed you for it... LOL
Same here! Except it was Sally's for general nail necessities when I realized that 90% of my polishes were dark purples & blues with special finishes. Not much variety to be had there lol!
Thank you so much for doing this review and giving us these tips!! I’ve been so curious as I too have shorter nails. I think I’m gonna try this and see what happens!!
I might just try this with a regular clear stamper. They definitely could have made this better but hopefully they improve! Great idea for us short nail girls
ahhh!! I am so glad you reviewed this!! I have wanted to see how this works! You're the best! I've been hoping you would review non stamping polishes stamping!! I hope you include some Believe Beauty polishes!!
@@KelliMarissa I've been really pleased with the majority of the ones from them I have tried! I found out about them from your swatch review and fell in love with them! Dollar General is the closest store with beauty products for me so I was so excited to hear they work well! #countryliving haha.
So a helpful tip is after you transfer the image to the yellow stamper take a regular clear top coat after it dries and gently cover the image. Once it dries than you can peel it off to make a decal, you can also fill it in to make a reserve decal. 🙂 Apply a sticky base coat to you nail allow to dry for about 45 secs until tacky and then apply the decal. Hope this works! 👍🏻 Great video, you've got patience.
@@lisathomson3057 Yes she did however I just informing that the best method for this shrinking stamping method is the top coat method. Less frustration, work smarter not harder. 👍🏻 Plus you can see where you place the stamp with the decal.
if they want to make it different from their normal one they could make it a bit cloudy or stay translucent but color it a bit, a fully opaque one looks so hard to use! thank you for the video 🥰 i’m glad the spooky sleep stuff stopped!! oh and i wondered if you’d ever want to try to swatch polish pickup polishes! it’d be so fun to watch! i always wonder how easy to apply they would be since i’m still a beginner
you can use a clear squishy stamp head the same way you can use the maniology stamper. It takes a little more concentration on making sure you are pulling the stamper evenly (if you get what I mean), but give that a try instead. Thanks for a great video. Rose
From the title I thought there was going to by a tiny nail shrinky dink machine. One of the best 90’s toys ever! I still have some shrinky dink jewelry. It’s a nifty stamper
I did Not know this was a thing!!! Thank you so very much Kelli, for sharing this and devoting a video to it!!! I probably will pick one up at some point, because I want to learn nail stamping, and my nails are shorties too. :) Also, really looking forward to your upcoming video about your suggestions for regular polish (and or brands) to use in place of stamping polish. :) Thanks for the Orly bonder basecoat tip too!!! :)
Thanks Kelli I tried this last year when I got back into stamping but it just reminded me why I gave up back in the early days when Konad rubber stamps were all there was. I just can’t get a decent placement with out a clear stamper. I tried with a clear stamper head and yep definitely tore it, I wouldn’t recommend, but if you ever find away around this please make a part 2 and share your secrets.
This video is so helpful! My friend and I had wanted to buy the shrinking stamper but it was sold out on maniology so we didn't get a chance. After watching this, I think I'll just deal with the designs that are too large - I have enough trouble doing my nails as it is haha
That's funny because I always have the opposite problem. Nails are long and design isn't big enough to cover my whole nail when I want to do a full design. 🤗
Very cool. Off subject are you excited to see the new holo taco and cirque colors being released this week? Oh! Congratulations on your Orly collection, can’t wait to see them!!!
Smart vid, maybe a ring or a short tube to resize the stamper as you push it through would be better than your hand for an undistorted print. Kelli, I think you need a 3D printer to print the perfect shrinking adapter, so you could use it without the first stamper. Ok that would be an exaggerated action, but you would have a resizing stamper for it and would save time. (Not counting the development time for the adapter.) 🤓😅💜 P.S. This eye makeup looks amazing in front of the camera.😃
I still have my older opaque winstonia stamping heads (from before I had the clear ones) that I still use with those plaates that refuse to accept the clear ones. I totally don't need to buy a new one, but I can use it for this technique. I bet it'll work
are you still going to do a video on your favorite glossy top coats? i've been having issues with my favorite top coat shrinking the polish and i trust your recommendations haha!
I haven't shrunk a design in years but I had dedicated clear stamp for just that with a few backup refills. It does work but as already stated it's rough on the stamper.
I feel like the color is more pliable and that is why they went that route. I am just guessing though. I am, for sure, going to try this out once it is back in stock. Oh glad you got your weird experiences figured out.
I use a clear one to shrink stamps all the time. It is from born pretty but I'm sure it would work. It is probably a little rough on the stamper so a spare one is probably a good idea. ☺️
Great video, love the idea, especially since I have really small nails. I feel like I need to try this with my normal clear stampers. Also I live for the maniology sticky base coat, its changed my stamping game.
One option would be to just use the shrinking stamper directly for the whole stamping instead of using the clear stamper in the beginning. Less steps=quicker! But then you have to use the squished shrinking stamper to get the image from the plate which it might need some practise. Also instead of sticky base coat you could use foil transfer glue to get the image to stick to the nail :)
This pull the stamper back technique is one I used back in the day. Not ideal, but you don't need to buy a special stamper to do this. It will work with any soft squishy stamper. If it dries too quickly just use a sticky base coat on the nail you are stamping. No need to transfer to 4 or 5 different stampers unless it is words or #'s you need to mirror.
The concept of a shrinker is so cool. Seems simple, but ends up being a bit complicated lol. I wonder if the technology will progress in the future. Like maybe someone will develop a clear version maybe a clear one with a tint to differentiate between that and the regular one? Also there must be a way to make some sort of device to stretch the rubber stamp pad evenly to avoid the image getting warped. Also would it be possible to go in reverse and expand an image? There are so many experiments to be done.
Haha it really is the start of a fun new sort of "technology" for stamping - I do love to see the improvements made over the years! I hope they continue to develop it.
I think a couple years ago I saw people using their regular stampers, pulling them back, and using that to pick up an image off a stamping plate. That way you eliminate the extra step of transferring the image from one stamper to another. Maybe that technique would work for this stamper.
Figured out how to do this with one stamper!!! Stretch the stamper on the top of the bottle and place the plate over top of it. Remove it and then let go of the stamper!
Interesting thing they come up with. I think it would work better if they used a semi clear stamper- maybe one you can still see through but is tinted? Thanks for showing us!!
I am very familiar with the man w’ the top hat. Very scary. He is tall and just pops up when u least expect him. In the middle of the day too. Glad he isn’t bothering u anymore. Lol
I was thinking maybe, putting a clear coat after you put it on the clear stamper. I know it's an extra step but maybe, it'll help with placement and the stamp drying faster. I think it's a good concept but, it looks like I would give up after two tries. hahaa.
I totally understand the need for differentiation, but I wonder if maybe a tinted color clear stamper could work? I think the concept is interesting, but I don't have the patience for opaque stampers. I'll wait for the next gen release lol. 😅
I totally identify with your sleep stories-- I used to wake up thinking there was an aggressive dog in my room! It stopped happening once I started taking melatonin supplements, though.
I am a horrible sleeper, so I tried taking melatonin. It causes me to trip! Lol. I get crazy vivid dreams. At first I thought, well, that can't be right. Tried it a couple more times, same experience! 😜😂
I successfully shrunk images by using that same gummy stamper and forcing it inside of a smaller holder. I used the bigger end of a dual ended stamper, but I've seen others use prescription pill bottles too. I was able to push the stamper in evenly to prevent any distortion of the image. The further you push the stamper in, the smaller the image will get. I have also seen that others create decals of the shrinked image to be able to successfully transfer the image to their nail. Another tip would be to only shrink images that do not have too many details, because those details will get lost when shrinking the image.
When I was younger, I used to see giant ants crawl under my sheets/pillows. Also saw a silhouette of a man in a trench coat with an umbrella several times. No one could convince me it didn't happen.
I have to say I'm intrigued. There's so many designs that don't fit on my small nails. I'm not sure I'm to that level of stamping ability though. Does it work with any stamper, or just this type of yellow one? Is it made of different material that allows it to stretch? That clock story freaks me out every time you tell it.
I've seen some ladies stamp their nails by laying the stamper face up, and pressing the nail into it in order to line it up. That seemed to work quite well.
Born pretty and nicole diary companies released shrinking stamper sets about 4 years ago. They look identical to maniology's version and work exactly the same way. Plus they have various sizes and color options. I got some of mine on amazon and on ebay for about $3 - $4 depending upon the size and color stampers that I wanted. Please don't try to stretch a clear stamper head. They are made from different materials than the sticky smushy marshmallow stampers. the clear ones tend to break and tear easier. There are several other shrinking and enlarging methods that do not require using 2 stampers. Guylene has made a few videos on them. All that is needed is a squishy marshmallow type stamping head ( I love winstonia or moyou ones for this. Amazon has these for about $2- $6 depending upon the size, the color, and the # of stamper heads in the set. example: I just bought a 2 pack of 2 inch marshmallow stamper heads for $5). I like using these methods better. You don't have to work as quickly and you don't have to use 2 stamper heads. Plus you have more control over the amount the image is shrunk or enlarged. The more you squeeze the edges- the more the image is shrunk or increased. An easier method to get the image on the nail... Put your nail over the image. Then press your nail down onto the image. It is much easier to get lined up properly. Oh one other tip, the size of the polish bottle cover does make a difference. The smaller the polish bottle cover is, the more you can pull down on the stamper head. Which means the smaller you can shrink the image. Just make sure that the polish bottle cover is flat. Using this method om images with writing / text, is not recommended. The writing is flipped and many times harder to read.
Thanks for the review Kelli 😊 I’m still on the fence about trying the shrinking stamper. I have kinda short nails and I’ve shrunk images before on my clear one, but I’ve also ripped a clear one doing that 🤷♀️ does the shrinking one seem squishier than the regular ones?
That metallic looked kinda cool like that, actually. The "wrinkling" made it look like hammered silver. Also, with the opaque stampers, if you put your nail on it instead of the other way around, it works better.
I want to try this with a large stamper that I have as the shrinking stamper. I'm thinking this could work by stretching any stamper. The limit would be the restorative constant, k, for the material. Maybe regular stampers will break as they are stretched. Anyway, I'm going to try! Lol!
