I'm making these video's to help those of you looking to join this industry, by giving you real life experiences.
In this video I talk to Dex, who I've been interacting with through social media for some time now, and he has been very supportive of the e5 group and those looking to inspire others to achieve their best.
Dex approached me to give you his experience through the City and Guilds 2365 diploma route. When Dex first set out he was able to get funding for the level 2 2365 which was a year long course, but the level 3 2365 is being phased out so he was forced to take the City and Guilds 8202 level 3 course at a cost of £2500.
The thing I like about Dex is that he has completely the right attitude towards learning, which you will discover when you are watching this video. He reads up on anything that will improve his knowledge, buys tools to learn on and incentivise him to push forward, and is in the middle of building himself a practical board at home, so that he can hone his skills while watching RU-vid videos and reading books.
Dex has found it hard to find a job in his chosen profession, partly because of a lack of experience, which those of you looking to choose this route may also face. This course is purely college based in classroom conditions and as such you will not be getting on site experience with this route. (There are 3 main routes into the industry which you can find here www.electricalcareers.co.uk/j...
You are then also purely reliant on the tutor who is training you, (unlike in an apprenticeship where you are on site 4 days a week) unless you are working with an electrician outside of college. This could be because you are either doing this full time, or around existing commitments like changing career, but on top of this Dex also has a disability which means that he has to really push himself to succeed, which he appears to be doing rather well.
Please watch the video and if you are able to help Dex in anyway fulfil his ambition of being an electrician in spite of his disability, I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

Dex will win because he wants it. He's very naive though, looking at the industry through these rose tinted specs but the reality on site is 'get the job done', nobody cares about your knowledge of regs or 'the betterment of others' - it's a job like any other.

I just finished 2365 level 2 myself and working on crossrail bms and starting 8202 (450) this year was tough during corona virus.

@@Pure_electrical_training Hi Adrian I am 34 years old changing career with no previous experience. I am not great on the tools and am working with inpatient people but it all goes above my head when they say can I even use a screwdriver or make a mistake with one thread to much in the conduit. I've learnt you have to have thick skin.

last video was great .This was bit like my journey did city and guilds level 1, 2,and 3 in 2006-2008 2330 didn't do AM2 at the time, as I wasn't working with electrician ,working in the fire service . Just taken 18 edition's last year and now going on to do 2392 prior to doing 2391-52 but not looking to be fully qualified like the last video just to do house rewires . should I go onto do the Am2 would that make me fully qualified ??.

I predict that at some point the electrical industry is going to push all the domestic installers down the AM2E route, so that we are all at the same level.... on paper anyway. That is why I believe they have made the AM2E so easy to get. You don’t even need previous qualifications, just 5 years experience. Get the AM2 while you can and you are in control of it

How did Dex get on?

He got a job as an electrician doing inspection and testing, and PAT’s, and was there for a year, before leaving on amicable terms to find something that really challenges him 🙌
