jenn! I spent one year in taiwan and because of your videos I was able to create some of the most precious memories I’ll ever have. I’m back in the USA now but I owe so much to you for helping us explore this beautiful island! good luck with TOCFL, I’ve taken it before and it’s very difficult but a great motivation for learning!
I’ve missed these kind of videos! I’ve watched since 2016/2017 and I’ve always loved your vlogs💕 I hope studying mandarin helps to to find your way in Taiwan!
Love the more everyday life type content! Travel is great but personally I enjoy the simple pleasures of everyday life as well. Definitely reminds me of living there and just going about my day to day.
Because I started watching when you were in Japan this content feels so chill and nostalgic. I feel like a lot of people feel lost in what we’re doing with our lives so this video feels so comforting! Definitely with the new year coming the feeling of wondering what to do with life is heeeeavy on my mind ❣️
I love your travel vlogs but I love these type of videos where it's chill and no frills. Totally understand your current mental state. I felt stuck which is why I decided to head to Taiwan on a solo trip and your videos stuck out with a easy-going vibe and inspiring perspective. I helped me find center in my journey and I hope you find peace in whatever you choose to do next :)
Aweeee I’m glad my videos have helped you on your journeys here in Taiwan. It makes me feel like I’ve at least accomplished something on this channel 🥹♥️
I miss Taiwan sooo much! Your videos make me so 'homesick'! I studied Chinese at a university in Taichung for a little while when I lived there and even just a few courses helped me be able to have basic conversations in Mandarin and get around more. Now I live in South America with my family and I find myself even using my basic mandarin here with the many Chinese shopkeepers 😆
I am sorry to heard this but I totally understand what you feel since I moved to Australia NT 5 years ago, I don’t know what I’m doing there with my poor English! I am surgical nurse in Taiwan but nothing in AU…I’v got lost and so depressed ~luckily I meet so many friends ~whom encourage me hanging out encouraging me speak English and don’t be shamed ☺️ now I am slowly feel better ~hope we all able to find our life purposes mind don’t know but in the future ❤ best wishes ❤️🩹🫶🏻
I totally understand the way you’re feeling and I hope this new year you find what makes you happy and fulfilled. I really enjoyed this type of vlog, love getting to know you more.
I follow you since you moved to Taiwan, love your travel videos (Taiwan is my favorite countryyyy!) but I am really excited for these kind of personal vlogs, too! (Also, I hope ju ju will find her forever home soon!
I hope to do more lifestyle videos!! I just can’t afford to travel as much at the moment & sponsors would rather work with others 😂 But that’s okay, imma study 💪🏻
@@LayersOfJenn Totally can understand that! But I am sure you can explore other topics, too! 💛 (btw: I am also learning chinese for over 7 years now, still on beginner level, but I dont give up :D so I think it is also interesting to see how your chinese will improve in the next time! I want to encourage you to speak more Chinese in your videos! 🫡)
I hope to include more mandarin in my videos once I become more comfortable with speaking!! I think it will be a gold way to reflect and see if my language level improves at all 😂
I would love to see more vlogs like this again. I've been following you since you were in Japan and I miss your day in life. I enjoy your travel vlogs. But I'm so interested to see what you're up to in your day to day life in Taiwan. They were always my favorite vlogs when you were in Japan. I also love seeing Hope and now Juju.
Hello Jenn, I think your travel videos are amazing but I have missed this style of vlog from you! I've been watching your videos for years, since you were in Japan, cooking, shopping, going out, trying on clothes and make-up, hiding T on camera haha 😊 I hope your Mandarin Chinese classes go well and that the feeling of being stuck in a rut gets better soon!!
Well you have a great language ability that’s for sure, so now is a great time for you to learn another language. As for finding your purpose, only advice I can give is to go back to your childhood and think about everything that sparked joy throughout your lifetime. You find your purpose by trying out everything that you really enjoy doing until you find the things that truly excite you where you feel fulfilled. Please keep making videos though. I think you really do have a great talent in making videos, doesn’t matter what the content is. I truly enjoy watching all your videos. Please document your journey of finding your purpose! ❤❤❤
Juju is so cute! Hopefully she finds a home soon. Being in Taiwan is definitely the best time to learn Chinese. Hope it goes well and you figure out what you want to do. It’s always hard to be in a bit of a rut. Like you still find fulfilling stuff to do, but you just want to do and be more
Chill videos are def easy for me to mix in 👍🏻 And I’ve read all of Sarah J Maas’ series! TOG is my favourite. When I read ACOTAR back in the day, a court of silver flames wasn’t out yet so, I decided to reread the series. Now I’m on the last book and more than half way through but, I’m not liking this book. I think I’m just *not* a nesta fan. Reading her book is like Chaol’s book for TOG 😂
My dear… love watching any videos, stories or reels you post. We never know our purpose….. our purpose is everyday. As my life changes, I will also walk by your side and see your growth through your videos. Alas also live through and travels you do 😊❤ Do what is best for you… we are all here for you!
I really enjoyed your Japan vlogs and your Taiwan travel vlogs. I'm looking forward to the mix. Your video style is very anesthetic. Good luck on your Chinese language journey.
I’m relieved to hear 🥹♥️ bc I was def pressing myself to create informative travel videos which I do love however, it’s expensive & RU-vid Adsense isn’t cutting it 😂
I think you may consider to take Chinese courses of some university language schools. In this way, you could not only enrich your social life, but also have many classmates to practice speaking Chinese together. Hope you could find more interesting things and enjoy your life in Taiwan.
hey, I think exploring taiwan is the best way to practice Chinese, at least for me I find it very fun and more natural~ my last trip was today to Taichung, and I really enjoyed that :)
Be wherever that is able for you as you want to be at. Earthlings are earthlings, the whole world is your world. 💝💝 You don't have to leave a place. You don't have to go back to a place. You can just go to all the places that you want to. And Taiwan is always here whenever you wanted to be here.
I've missed your day in the life vlogs 😊 you could also do what I eat in a day or q&a videos, I could honestly watch anything because I love your personality, but those are just a couple ideas outside the travelling vlogs 😁💜
The most important thing in learning Chinese is to have an environment in which to use it. You live in Taiwan which is the biggest advantage. This will be more efficient than you learn Chinese in any country. Give yourself a goal, you can do it。
Life needs pauses once in a while to allow us to recharge. Taiwan is a better place for such breaks than where I am in the US because of its lower cost of living. In my hometown people can hardly afford to pause because of all the financial burdens that this place entails. In the three years since the pandemic hit, more and more people have been foreclosed by the County for failure to pay the 1.5% property tax. Whereas in Taiwan such a tax costs only 0.2%.
Having too much time can cause depression for some people, but also don't let work define who you are. If you have a hobby, maybe you can explore that side of things, or try collaborating with other youtubers. If you ever go back to Canada I personally would love to see vlogs or daily life videos from there. Wish you the best!
RU-vid was my hobby at the start in Japan!! I should find another one 😂 Hopefully I’ll get back to Canada to visit! I filmed every trip before with my mom and our adventures around Canada!
"it's not what I'm here for but I'll always browse" Is there really any other way to shop at Daiso though? The fake sweater combo. I can imagine someone saying, "if you're so cold, why don't you just put on your sweater?" 😅 But it being so hot there, you can go for the style while keeping it cooler. I originally found your channel through this style of your vlogs years ago, so personally I'm glad you'll make more everyday life vlogs. Don't feel pressured to make every video about some amazing exciting location. It's great that you have a goal to learn another language. And who knows, maybe through the learning process you'll discover something that feels like your purpose while you're there. I'm stuck in a rut too, mainly because my health is preventing me from doing anything beyond the daily basics so I get wanting to have a purpose.
Aah, Juju looking her best in that box while Hope just claiming the entire couch, ehe. Good luck on your quest dear, remember studying for HSK and it was hard times but made it ( even though I barely remember anything now, ughhh).
What is the song you used around 4:00? Also, I know how you feel. I've also traveled across many countries, and suddenly when I came back the USA, I got married quickly and didn't have to work suddenly. While at first it was freeing, it ended up making me feel caged and lonely in a way, since I couldn't figure out what to to do with myself. I started hobbies etc, and nothing really filled it. I, however, ended up pregnant so that fixed that issue haha. However, it can take time to truly find yourself, especially when suddenly not working. You're such an amazing human being, and I love your independence and your vlogs and everything about you. It makes me wish I could visit Taiwan and have a drink with you one evening.
I was hoping to have a baby here while I had more free time and are trying just, my medical condition makes it harder. Hopefully that dream can be achieved 💪🏻
In my experience with learning Japanese to a conversational level in the past year and a half, as well as dabbling with other languages of countries I visited... It takes surprisingly little time to be able to understand and speak some basic phrases and simple sentences of a language ("I'm from America," "I like Chinese food," etc)... but it takes so so sooo long to be able to actually become fluent, to understand all the native-level speech around you when you're in the country, etc. My estimation would be like, 5 hours for the basics, 5 years for fluency (?). It's really a bigger time commitment than I realized when I started. Not gonna say I regret it, because it was an interesting process, but now after 1.5 years of learning Japanese, I'm at this point where: (1) I've invested so much time into learning the language already, so I feel like I shouldn't quit and "waste" my progress, like I'm kinda scared/sad about the idea of losing it - but (2) I'm still sooo far away from true fluency, especially in my comprehension of native Japanese, and (3) I think I've recently decided I won't live in Japan for that long anyway... So, while I don't really "regret" learning it, I'm not sure if it was truly worth the 500+ hours I've spent on it.
Yes it def takes a lot of time daily to be able to becoming semi-fluent. I remember my husband while in Canada years ago would study English for over 5 hours a day & specifically chose where I lived in Canada bc there are few Japanese people. That way he literally has to speak English.
Jenn, I hope you find the "thing" you're looking for. I'm in my last few months of my 20s and kinda in a rut too, so hopefully the new year brings you a lot of success! Random question: do you feel like you are losing your Japanese because you're not speaking it as often as before?
10K Steps came from Japanese company testing new pedometers. Physicians say if you do between 3-4K you are good. JuJu is adorable what a wonderful thing to do. ❤
It's important to have down times. Otherwise one is only maintaining busy to avoid facing one's self. It's when this happens that we feel our own heart.
Taiwan over Japan? I can see that choice on my own terms, Japan is great short term but I would not want to live there more than a year if I had the choice, Taiwan always wins for life style.
Taiwan is def fun and more tattoo friendly which is great for me! I do love japan too though. My husband is from there so, one day we will be back to Japan or Canada!
When I see your username, Layers of Jenn, I think of the multiple different facets of your life. You're not just travel, just like your Instagram account isn't just travel. You like different things. Your personal brand is your niche. Also, side note, kinda, honestly, I've been struggling with the purpose thing myself. I use the Artist of Life workbook by Lavendaire, and in it she has this self-reflection wheel (there's a free PDF of this wheel to fill in for yourself on her website.) If you ever heard of level 10 life, it's similar. A circle denotes a balanced life and an angular shape denotes out of balance. And each quarter, you reflect with this self-reflection wheel. I kid you not, every aspect of my life fluctuated or got better BUT my purpose. it has always stayed the same low numbers. Figuring that out is a journey in of itself. I'm sure when you follow what your heart wants and your curiosity, you will find it! As I believe we all will eventually.
Haha this is a reread for me!! Just a court of silver flames is new bc when I originally read the series, it wasn’t out yet. I think this book is my least favourite to be honest 😂 I just really dislike Nesta and I’m more than half way through the book. I’m a TOG girl (love Aelin & Rowan ♥️). I also really enjoyed CC!
Keep making content, you’re great at it. ❤ Meanwhile, maybe you can teach English there! It’s a great way to supplement your income too. Wishing you all the best! Happy Holidays
I looked at teaching here however, most place’s required me to also teach kindergarten which is illegal here. I’m not running away from ppls who go around & check the schools like others I know 😂 I’m excited to start studying more now though 👏🏻
Remote indigenous communities in Eastern Taiwan could always use a multi-linguo teacher, and you get to learn Chinese from your students in return. 😉 ( Maybe that's wishful thinking, but it's something I'd do when I am financially secure. But with the stock market crashing, that day may never come now. 😥)
Ohhh you mean like volunteer work? I was thinking of doing something like that at a hospital but, I don’t know where to start. As for the remote communities, that’s a good idea. My only issue is transportation 🥲
I’m not just because I literally don’t have anything excited daily 😂 In japan I was working, meeting friends all the time, going to events for vlogmas.
I would love to have her however, it costs a lot of money to relocate them to japan & it’s even harder to get an apartment with two cats sadly. Japan is super strict with letting animals in. It’s similar to Australia
I am not translating my videos anymore because it was a lot of added stress to me. However, you can click the function for captions and have automatic translation into almost every language RU-vid offers. It is not amazing however.
