Hey ya'll! I am finally attempting to fix my thinning microlocs. I used the #interlocking method in this video, but again, just to reiterate....THIS IS NOT A TUTORIAL! Let me know if you suffer from thinning and if so, how do you fix it and most importantly PREVENT it from happening again?

I use a crochet hook and take the thinning section upwards and then go back and forth like I’m pulling the hairs into the loc until it Locs. Which reinforces the loc.

Thinning like that is do to not having a consistent tightening schedule. When you go a long time without reti that hair doesn't have the strength of the bunch and is like when you have loose natural hair. Like loose natural hair every time you touch or style the hair it will break effectively Thinning the lock. Then when you do reti you think its smaller because its fresh, but its not until months later you discover it was breakage. This is just one possible explanation, there are more that play off this situation.

So I had the same issue. I had two locs that were thinning like yours. One, I cut it off at the thinning part and braided the cut part in. The other one, I wrapped the thinning part around the roots and twisted the rest. Kind of hard to explain, but locs are now shorter, of course but consistent in size down the length. Im fine with that.

I’m thinking that moving the two “thick” pieces together and using a tiny crochet needle to mesh it together. Like the method they use to reattach locks or when they do loc extensions.

See?!?! I knew it! It just might seem tedious if you have to fill in a thin part that stretches pretty far in the loc. But I definitely think it’s worth a try! Great job!

I have had the same issue. I did the same thing by looping through it in opposite directions which basically creates a chain in the weak area and it has worked fine. I have even tied a knot in the lock by looping the loc on itself and rolled it between my fingers periodically to work the knot down to the size of the loc. It secured the weak area and everything is fine. I interlock my hair on a consistent schedule so I am not sure why this happens to some locs. I don't ever where my hair in a style so I can't even point to that as the reason this happens to some locs.

I have a few locs that are thinning but its not due to anything else but me constantly accidently making knots and then pulling out the knots and breaking the hair. Im trying to figure out how to make the loc fuller towards the root

I think it Because your locs are super tiny dats why they are thinning ,u hair is very beautiful but for the health of your hair it good u combine two locs to have a solid foundation

Does anyone know why a loc would thin mid shaft?

I think about it like this - Say the loc has 10 hairs from the scalp. Then say midway down the loc, for whatever reason (over manipulation, caught on something, whatever), 5 hairs broke. The other 5 hairs that are intact are holding the full loc in place so you still see that length. But those 5 broken hairs are now not existing in that middle portion, so you see a thin area. BUT those broken 5 hairs are also still included in the bottom portion holding on so it looks thicker than the thinned out section just above it
