I LOVE the purple bell vine, and I agree that it is gushable! I had never seen it before watching the first video you posted and introduced it, and then I completely forgot about it. Therefore, I’m so grateful that you shot this video. I wrote myself a note about this beauty, and I definitely intend to try growing it next year. Thanks, Erin -and good luck overwintering it.

I just wanted to say that after watching this video, I knew I HAD to try this plant! What a beautiful vine. I bought purple bell vine seeds from Park Seeds and I have been successful at getting 30% of them to germinate in NINE days! I used moist coco coir, grow lights, and a heat mat. I hope they each successfully grow into these beautiful vines, I cannot wait to see them growing over the front walkway to my house!

“Spectacular” is the probably the best description. The way you trained it could not have been more perfect. It looked like it formed a heart-shape where they met in the center of the pergola. 💜 I feel your pain at having to cut it. I cut mine the other day and now have to tackle my Alice Dupont Mandevilla that is still covered in blossoms and looks fantastic! However, it’s time to cut it back and bring it in. 😢 Fingers crossed for successful overwintering for all of us with high hopes! As always, thanks for the inspiration and motivation. 🪴💚

Hi there - just found this great video and I am reading the comments for more info - wow, I was planning on growing Alice DuPont (instant gratification!) this spring with either purple hyacinth bean vine or this purple bell vine - do you think I could grow these together on same large arbor? Any preference, thoughts? 🙏 thanks😊

I can relate to this so much right now! My garage if FULL of plants and I'm about to start turning a bedroom in the basement into a plant room, to overwinter quite a few plants. I'm spending way too much money each spring on new plants, so I figured it's worth a shot at trying to save them. Fingers crossed!

My husband and I bought an abandoned wreck of a farm a couple of years ago. When we were looking, the house had to solve a couple of problems we had with our current home. No place to start plants was a huge issue! So I feel your pain. We are building an addition, just for plants. Most people think we lost our minds because of that. We won’t be able to start the addition until the spring, but we have plenty to do so it’s ok. But I am over the moon excited to have a room that plants can over winter in, and we can start seeds in. I sure hope that flower over winters for you! It’s on my wish list.

Thank you for introducing me to PBV! I grew it from seed for the first time this year and had 100% germination - beginners luck, I’m sure. But then, I nearly killed it when I inadvertently mixed too much fertilizer in the foliar spray. After a heroic effort on the plants’ part, I did eventually get about a dozen blooms on the one vine (out of 6) that survived my stupidity. This is definitely a keeper!! 💜💜💜 I do hope you are successful overwintering it! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Hi Erin! This was really interesting! I hope it does well for you. It is a beautiful plant. Have you ever tried growing Hyacinth Beans? I grow some in a large pot every year and then harvest the seeds for the next year. I soak the seeds overnight and then just push the seeds in soil and they sprout really well. They are a really pretty vine and get purple blooms on them, then the blooms turn into bean pods with the seeds inside. They're fun to have and grow quite fast. You can them anywhere they have a place to climb. Thank you so much for sharing!

I’m so glad to find someone else who is growing purple hyacinth in a container! It’s my first year to grow it and it’s so beautiful (when it’s not being infested by aphids currently, before that was white flies). Do you have any pest issues? I can’t find any videos talking about pests so I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong or it’s just it’s nature.
@sandyg8794
@sandyg8794 Год назад
@@sharabenson Hi Shara! Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I've been growing these for years and have never had any pest issues with them. I'm sorry I can't help you with this! I think it's just nature. You might try hosing the aphids off with water, or use neem oil, or something similar. Good luck with them! You probably already know this, but if you want to save the seeds, let the pods completely dry on the vine. You can either save the whole pod until your ready for the seeds, or remove the seeds. I've done both and they both work great!

The vine is so beautiful, I may give a try next year. I was at Costco today and they have a boot tray that looks very similar to the garden tray and I think it was $9 or $10. I think it would work for seed starting. It's 17 x 35 so it's a little smaller. Just a thought to save a little money.

Adding on to my previous comment…I went out to look at my surviving purple flower vines and ,lo and behold, magically they had grown to 6-7ft long with flowers. Our weather here in western Washington has been awfully windy and rainy recently and not conducive to gardening, besides I’m housebound after knee surgery, so I had forgotten about them. What a surprise. I immediately potted them up and put them in the green house to winter over. Thanks for the video🤗

Such a beautiful and unique vine! I would like to try one next year. In a quick google search I found someone who successfully grows from seed every year. They say put seeds in individual peat pots, cover top with film wrap, place on heat mat and under grow lights. It takes a while but good germination. Remove film after first set of true leaves. Might be worth a try doing seeds again. Others report that they found over-wintering the plants difficult. Hope all goes well for you with your vines.

Based on your recommendation last year I gave this a go this year. As you warned, it took forever to germinate but then they just sat there, stunted FOREVER.
