You saved the day. I had the exact same problem when the rig returned to receive, it sounded like the signal was attenuated 20db or more. I used the CRC brand for the contact cleaning and it did the job. I had a couple of cans of Radio Shack contact cleaner lying around, and when I read it had oil in it, I threw it out. Many thanks. I would have recommended checking the resistance of the contacts first, then clean them, then recheck to see the difference. Typical is 25 milliohms and 50 milliohms max. Also you probably have run more contact cycles with your oscillator than that relay ever had in its entire life ! I would not recommend this oscillating procedure, but rather a very low duty cycle off-on-off a few times just to allow the cleaner to enter. Also if possible use a microscope magnifier to inspect the contacts for wear and pitting; especially since the relay is used for high voltage out.
I didn't use the oscillating method, I just physically moved the contact from it's normally closed resting position, to the other side of the contact, and blasted it with the contact cleaner. I never thought about the consequences of using the oscillating procedure, and you do have a point there, although it may not hurt anything.

How do you feel about recommending one of these hybrids for a first HF rig? The quality seems like its pretty good. Just curious vs solid state rigs. 73
Brad Moran Well considering this was also my first multi band HF rig, I would recomend it. It takes a little longer in the initial setup of the transceiver before operating because you have to tune the final stage, but other than that, this and similar rigs have stood the test of time. Quality is great and they are very serviceable when compared to the newer computer controlled solid state rigs. if you find one in nice shape in working order, you wont be dissapointed. Though the internal speaker kind of sucks, I would recomend an external speaker. I myself am curently on the hunt for one of the matcing speakers for the rig.-73 VE4BDE
@@RC-nq7mg I have the SP-230 matching speaker. It's worth it to find one, as it's much better than the internal speaker. It also has 3 switchable push button filters low, high 1 and high 2.
