I love your performances, Mr. Tsang and Mr. Nel. I strongly disagree with the close-miked, electronically mixed recording engineering. As advocates for beauty, humility, rawness, and intimacy of unamplified acoustic sound, I recommend you take a stand on how you are recorded. Your instruments are designed to project and mix in the air, and you are experts at the art of casting your minds' ears into the house. This artistry is wasted when the mikes are so close to the instruments.
Most professional recordings today use at least one up-close mic. It's true that it's often blended with other room mics to give more ambiance. But remember, Bion Tsang is not a typical cellist. His technique is clean-as-a-whistle. He can afford to let the mic up close. Sounds Great!
