Their music is cathartic to me. Their lyrics dont depress me, they empower me to be better and do better because I dont want to go back to that feeling. 10 months sober from alch
The rover truck is just something you wish for when you are poor etc… Its an high class vehicle and kinda of an icon in a way. Ruby then says in Matte Black song he dont need the key to the rover anymore meaning he got successful and can afford one I guess.
I wil say though, kinda sad going back and listening to that album with the context of everything. The boys were at their worst relationship wise and scrim im pretty sure was at the height of his drug addiction during this album, and i think same with Ruby. I read somewhere too that this is both Ruby and Scrims worst album in their opinion.
@@Neowaverecordings true yeah. ruby said during the theo von interview that stop staring at the shadows was his "peak" drug usage wise.. but yeah scrims performance in that album was ass mostly imo cos way too much drugs. sadge
@@Neowaverecordings shit i remember when the album came out, the very first listen it was obvious that scrim was fucked up during the recordings. since then it has of course come out that was when he was at his lowest and that it's his least favorite album.
14:42 you’d be surprised how much this kinda music helps bc you either let ur emotions come out (which is good) or you just realize how dark everything is but if we all grey and feel that way then we ain’t alone when listening to their stuff…. ur gonna be okay in the end. Just keep going
really disliked scrims performance in IV as well, but it's because he was drugged out of his mind and going thru psychosis. he thought southwest airlines put a hit out on his life during that era. lol
Omg this is history. Some of their best work & my fav song by them is I will celebrate for stepping on broken glass and slipping on stomach soaked floors
27:33 he does sound like that, even worse in some songs, for the majority of the album. Only about 2 songs I think where he is a bit higher energy, but the voice is still there. I think he was in the dumps during this album to be fair, which is why scrim says he dislikes this album
i think when that album dropped they were at the worst abusing drugs, especially scrim. I think it came out in 2018 and after that album came out they started working towards getting scrim sober
fire reaction bro. I don't feel depressed or anxious either, but I love their songs. Mostly because of the beats and flows, the quality of it hypes me up to the point I don't even care if they're talking about drugs or self harm lmao.
Now they're talking more about money fame and bitches which is closer to most raps but it still has their own style, guess it's why you fw their most recent album
$crim did kinda sound like that for most tracks in I want to die in New Orleans which sucks cus the album is so good and I usually favour $crim over Ruby but Ruby killed every song on that album
Scrim hates I want to die in New Orleans for exactly that reason, he couldn't do a single line without screwing it up, He got some good moments but ruby def carried the album, ruby said they almost split up because there came a time when scrim didn't care about rapping at all, im glad they are sober now, Also, what part is your fav so far? Mines are part 3 and 5
Yea it was crazy to hear ngl. I thought I'd have to listen closely to hear the irregularities. Seeing them completely turning their lives around is definitely a great thing to see. As for my favorite part, i can't really tell rn. The 1st part was the most memorable so I'd probably have to go with that. But if I listen to them more, it's subject to change
I've been listening to $B since 2016, once you listen to the "I want to die in New Orleans" project it'll throw you for a loop. You're getting the same experience listening to them in chronological order and hearing the evolution of their music. I'm not going to give any preconceptions but from your reaction on this video I think your reaction will be similar to what mine was in 2018. The only reason why "I want to die in New Orleans" is so popular is because it was the "breakout" album for them once they peaked in the underground scene. So it was the first album release for a lot of new fans.
It's definitely been interesting listening to their music in chronological order. I'm stepping outside of my usual routine in regards to music with this series. I normally would never listen to them but it's been refreshing. Looking forward to their later projects fs
@@tscomplex Your videos have revived my interest in watching reactions. You're the first person I've seen commit to $B in chronological order. Maybe I missed something, but what made you commit to listening to each project in order? (DONT SLEEP ON THE COLLAB ALBUMS)
@yupe54 thats wassup, im kind of the same way though. I can only watch certain people react, mainly bc a lot of people pause the music every 5 secs. And honestly, there's no real reason. I knew a series would help the channel's growth, instead of reacting to random stuff And ima try not to, but this series will drag on for months if im not careful😂
A lot of people can't listen to them because they don't relate. To be fair most of their music is about drugs, mental health, and etc so i can see why if you arent going through any of those why you wouldn't like them. I struggle with mental health and their music helps me so much makes me feel not alone and that im seen. If you listen to their music a lot you'll get into them!
I feel that fs. Ive had some literal years where I was at rock bottom mentally. Stared death right in the face during those years. I can definitely understand the perspective of not wanting to be alone. It's not a fun path to walk solo. But I want you to keep your head up my g. Just remember that if it's possible, it can be done💯
I think 1000 blunts & the number you have dialed is not in service, oh lord I have my doubts, new chains same shackles, AM/PM, cherry pie, paperbagmask, 122 days, king tulip, temple spray, nightmare choir, low key, leave me alone, failure by design, eclipse, chariot of fire, in constant sorrow, that just isn't empirically possible, magazine even Antarctica is up there for top song. I'm sure I'm probably even missing some obvious ones.
Music like this isn't necessarily straying people away from addiction or drug abuse. It's giving a voice to people who feel the same way, because they feel ashamed or misunderstood in their own circles. Sometimes people just need to be heard. But I will say that outside of a critical point of view, this saga (until part 4) is by far one of their most creative and best sounding projects from my own personal opinion. The beats are very melodic and each verse from ruby and scrim is telling a story. Whether or not you find it appealing just depends on your personal opinion of the subject matter.
Yes❗$crim & Ruby were both on drugs but $crim was on hard drugs while withdrawing from others at this time. That's why his voice sound like that. They released this album the exact day Mac miller overdosed.
Im pretty sure most people just listen to $B because their sound is dope, unique and theyre hella consistent. Like i hardly care about their lyrics that much anymore, i just love the sound they have
In the recent Theo Von podcast Scrim and Ruby said the album they were most messed up on drugs was "I want to die in New Orleans" (Part IV). That's why Scrim sounds like that because he was on a lot of shit
They were doped pretty much the whole time but it was the worst around I Want To Die In New Orleans. Around that time they almost split up actually because scrim was so bad on Heroin
I understand your take on listening to this type of music and ive had this convo with people before but honestly for the majority of people including me it doesn't really bring us down bcuz when your feelings that way all you really want is someone to understand how you feel and what your going thru so hearing them say exactly how you feel and seeing them be able to still make it its like hope maybe not so much hope to stop the drugs but hope that you too can make it in life...
not gunna say scrims drugged out on every track but you may be a little disappointed. I want to die in new orleans has some of their best songs imo. But i’m curious to see what you think.🙏
He always wanted the keys to the rover truck then there was song he mentioned he got the keys to the rover truck then he made another one saying he doesnt need the keys to the rover truck anymore and now on the new album he blew up the rover truck. Thats the easiest way to explain it
luckily Scrim went sober after I Want to Die In New Orleans album but yea this was the worst state he ever was in he even said it himself on the Theo Von podcast
I mean scrim himself said or im pretty sure both of them hate this album cuz of how heavily drugged up they were esp scrim so when it sounds like that its really not him doing a bit but more so too fucked up to sing more with more energy like we see in the newer albums
They got me through addiction and depression . Wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for knowing someone else was going through the same thing as me at the same time .
This is why I love em boy$ cuz they have soo many flows and lyrics for everyone. there are so many peoples saying that their music is emo but they still stock on the $boy$ from 2016/17 that obviously it was a more darker in those times
disregard the sample lyrics, simply associate it with the beat. each sample brings a different sound, almost like an instrument on a track. the sample breaks are simply to vibe until the next verse. i’m sure u know this. just don’t want ya to over analyze ya know.
Anyone who's been down that drugged out road knows we're scrims coming from in that album that's why it hits me so hard otc it makes me think that anyone has the power to change and I respect it
Yes the voice of Scrim on part IV is crazy. Personally I love it, it brings so much of his emotion and the state he was in on that album… I had a pretty dark moment also in my life some year ago. I was suicidal and staying awake for a few day just to kinda live life at 100% the time I had left.. I was also on teamspeak at all times with people from a team in from an MMORPG and after some month people could literally tell when I had been awake for a few day because my voice was getting so low and fucked up..
A lot of the lyrics about drug use in their newer stuff (2022-Now) arent talking about current drug use, its them talking about the past or just using the lyrics to paint a picture/set a scene.
I feel you. That definitely threw me off at first when I first started listening to them. At that time I had no idea what they had gone through or anything like that
ruby used to be in a punk band that’s prolly why u think he has influence from smash mouth and ruby has his own album more punk band releated under one of his personas called duckboy
Yea i haven't listened to much punk music outside of the more mainstream stuff. I just felt like his style sounded familiar. Smash mouth was the only band i could think of in the moment that sounded even remotely similar😂
In my own expierience, depression was really isolating and amplified the feeling of "otherness" in me, a sort of struggle to belong and find a place in society . By the time i stumbled across $B i've been struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts for years, and the moment i heard them ( i think it was Antarctica) it was a hard to describe feeling of relief and comfort that i am not alone and others have these thoughts and feelings too. Their music helped me go through tough times by providing that comfort. Even tho im better now, i dont think ill every truly be "fine" - maybe thats why i never get tired of them mentioning death/drugs /suicide in their lyrics. Anyway - thanks for the videos, really love your content! Wishing you the best.
I understand what you mean fs. Ive had consecutive years where I was going through hell mentally and really stared death in the face. The important part is that we found ways to cope, similar or not. I'm glad to hear that you've gotten better. Ik this stuff never really truly goes away. Having a certain mindset towards different things can lift a lot of weight off your shoulders as well. At the end of the day, you gotta put yourself first. Do what you have to do to find and maintain that peace yfm. And fuck what anyone else thinks. Easier said than done though
Its a tough choice between ydl and high tide. Id have to listen to both of them again but those are my top 2 so far. Tammany was ok but had a few skips yfm
i dont know if anyone mentioned this but on razor pt2 theres lyrics on the cover image that is in rubys duckboy project song called rougarou lil easter egg if you will :)
Yo that's wild. I didn't even notice the words in the background. Once i get to the project, I'll be on the lookout for that. Preciate you pointing that out fam
The reason scrims voice was so deep during the I Want To Die in New Orleans album was because that was at the height of his drug use so he was really messed up all album
When I say this might be my favorite series rn!!! I love the way you are actually delving deep and researching and actually giving a f about the duo. Much respect to you and I am looking forward to see your thoughts and how your perspectives have changed at the end of the journey!! Much love man!!! ♥🧡
I appreciate that fam💯 this has been an enjoyable series to create, and I'm glad that it's being received well. I feel like I've only seen fan-like reactions as opposed to critic-like reactions of them. I try to criticize without coming off as hating😂
@@tscomplex Nah man that's what we need more of is, constructive criticism. Instead of other reactors just listening to it and just saying everything was fire n shit lol. I mean I love how you don't sugarcoat everything. I mean just by the intro of the video when $crim back in his early days making a mix tape called Narcotics anonymous. You can clearly see how addicted he was to drugs by that video that you had in the intro, I love so much of him being 2 years sober vs what everyday used to look like for him. I mean he was really doing every drug he was mentioning in that intro into the mixtape. I mean even in IWDINO he is you'll see lol. It just breaks my heart every time I hear that audio "I am addicted too *insert drugs*. I mean just seeing how he is now vs 2018 and further back it's truly inspiring. I know I went on a tangent but he also after every show says a speech about drugs and so on to help people that might be going through what he went through. Lastly I love the part in the video where you said you were good at journalism and researched the Razor series and the Mythos behind it, I have a lot of respect for you and your opinions in these videos, truly. Much love man fr ❤❤.
The 4th one was about at the peak of scrims drug use, specifically with this and the associated album “I want to die in New Orleans” which is least favorite project due to how he sounded in most songs
Dont miss the video for the south side suicide tape! Its called $$$ on youtube its got all 5 songs in it, kinda hard to find but its on their main yt channel. Maybe you could have the lyrics up in another window or something? :D
Preciate this. Would have 100% missed it😂 my process has been looking up each track on youtube to find the vids. I definitely wouldn't have come across this one
everyone thought that iwtdino was their last album because of the IV razor everyone thought that was their ending song because it was so long and random , also yea scrim was really drugged out through the whole album thats why he sounds like that lol (also they are sober off hard drugs rn but scrim still smokes cigs and ruby smokes weed
A lot of fans like the drug references because we can relate to it, you’d be surprised the number of people in the world who use substances even if they like to lie and keep it on the low
2017 was the decline of scrim (still fire af to me but noticeable imo) 2018 (IWTDINO) was the death of deep voice scrim into vocal fry scrimmy. his verses are good enough for me but his worst of his by a long shot. ruby & thw production carried the album to an 11/10 but scrim drops it to 9.5/10
but he has reformed his rapping style and I can still hear him finding his sound, he'll get it. I like what he's pouring. ruby just always been gifted.
tbf kys 4 arguably the worst song on the album (& it's def not bad) and scrim DOES sound better on the rest of the album but essentially yeah he sounds like that on the entire album. RIP deep voice scrim, but new scrim is good too
