Bonjour mon ami, I think it is pretty funny that a fellow american is talking about french-canadian novel that I do not know about. If I understood correctly, in the book there is mention of the catholic church having to much much power on the life of french canadians. That has been a problem for a long time. Now, most quebecers don't go to church anymore. I do not know the percentage, but I would say that probably about 1/3 are atheist. The accident at Lac Megantic happened the 6th of July 2013 (so nearly 11 years ago). As you said, the mecanic of a train dit not put enough breaks on the train (a train containing several millions liters of light crude oil). The train was on a slope that went in Lac Megantic village. The train went down the slope (while the mecanic was asleep in a hotel nearby) and was at high speed went it entered the village. It derailed, putting on fire about 7.7 millions liters of the oil contained in tank cars. 42 persons died in the acccident. Last years, a miniseries of 8 episodes (name: Megantic) came out and was telling the story of several persons that was there at the time... I can tell you, that it is impossible to keep dry eyes at the end of each of these episodes. Take care my friend! Gilles

Hello. I was enjoying the book review and then you started talking family history and New England and Canada and speaking French, I thought, What? But..and or However, I really enjoyed listening to you ramble on about your history and your friend and Maine, N.H and Canada! I thought that was very interesting hearing all that. Way back in the day around 1978 I was a flat top roofer, hot tar roofer. We were doing a job way down south in Louisiana, and I mean deep down, even below and west of New Orleans. It was a really small country town and it had one small family owned grocery store. And all the locals would hang out at that store and they all would speak in French. They would get to arguing in French and I would sit there and eat my vienna sausage and enjoy it all. They totally ignored me. I would try to engage in the conversation and some would talk to me in broken English. Ahhh, good memories! Anyway, I enjoyed your review. I think I might would enjoy that book. What is YTPC? I did subscribe to this channel. Thank you -James & Bella!

Thanks for watching, James! The YTPC is the RU-vid Pipe Community. Basically an informal collection of folks united by the love for pipes and pipe tobacco. I'm not hardcore myself but the YTPC helped me to learn a LOT. Many great friendships have resulted. I used to do the odd book report on the YTPC. But then, with you and others as my inspiration, I decided to start a companion BookTube Channel. (Dive in!) My next one will be my book haul from Savers. Others I like: @CamsCampbellReads. Mostly because he's a Scotsman to the marrow and @PaulMagrs. Oh, yeah the French influence is heavy in the USA. Hell, the West Side here in Manchester, NH was once called "Little Canada".

Thanks for the reply. When you enter Louisiana the sign that say "Welcome to Louisiana" it says it in English and French. And of course the street signs in New Orleans are also in French such as "Rue Bourbon" I'm glad that you started a more bookish channel. I think that I will enjoy it. Thank you -James
