They still have this tribal, nomadic mentality where a patriarch or matriarch rules. Hmong "law" don't look at right or wrong but rather who has more influence. Since we're all taught to respect the elderly, old Hmong people get the impression that everyone will do their bidding... that right or wrong, what they did is right because they're older. And everyone does... if in Laos, everyone does if using Hmong "law". But if you use a country's law, Hmong "law" stands no chance. Always two sides to a story. First of all, this story has a lot of holes in it, a lot of things don’t make sense. Not saying it’s not true, but what I’m saying is that listeners shouldn’t always take a story for face value, always remember there’s two sides to a story. This story sounds like her good reason for why she won’t give them a dime of the insurance money… which may or may not be all true. In the hmong community, it makes no sense that this lady’s husband funeral, went the way it did. No men involved?? They wouldn’t let their own grandsons see their dad?? Those things don’t make any sense. Judges won’t usually just issue a restraining order if it makes no sense at all, why would a judge tell a wife she can’t go see her husband at his funeral, unless there’s something crazy involved that’s not told in this version of the story….
