The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) continues to slide as semiconductor stocks takes a hit from potential plans from the Biden administration to impose stricter restrictions around AI chip exports to China. Former President Donald Trump also made comments to Bloomberg about potentially making Taiwan pay for US defense.
Wedbush Securities SVP of equity research Matt Bryson joins Market Domination to give insights into the chip stock slide.
"When you look at what the US is doing in terms of restricting capital equipment sales into China, if they are successful, certainly that would weigh on ASML (ASML), that would weigh on some of the other capital equipment names, Tokyo Electron (TOELY), and that's something to think about," Bryson says.
"If China takes a harder stance and starts banning imports, that's something to think about. But, in terms of, again, things shifting immensely for someone like Nvidia (NVDA), where China is a relatively small portion of their revenue because there's already such significant restrictions in place. Thinking about moving away from Taiwan Semi (TSM) anytime in the next 2 to 3 years, I just don't think there's any real implications...There's just there's no alternative to Taiwan Semi."

Buying a stock is easy, but buying the right stock without a time-tested strategy is incredibly hard. Hence what are the best stocks to buy now or put on a watchlist? I’ve been trying to grow my portfolio of $560K for sometime now, my major challenge is not knowing the best entry and exit strategie;s ... I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

The market is volatile at this time, hence i will suggest you get yourself a financial-advisor that can provide you with entry and exit points on the shares/ETF you focus on.

sorry, but no Americans will work 12 hrs a day, 7 days a week, even if TSMC build all the factories in the States
@sirhch1
@sirhch1 Месяц назад
Exactly. Plus it would take at least 10 years for a US factory to reach Taiwan efficiency, even if run by TSMC. The knowhow is so important and it takes years to learn.

Taiwanese learned it here. They went back to start TSMC
@normansteinmetz643
@normansteinmetz643 Месяц назад
@@banklootfulcorrect, but this was decades ago. The knowledge of producing the best quality high performance chips is in their hands now and Intel struggles with offering similar chip quality over and over again. Second problem for Intel is that their foundry business will always be connected to their own chip business and therefore most competitors will prefer to handover the contracts to TSMC.

First, this is 5 days a week, 8 hours a day work, Workers still take holiday off. But it is not a typical work. 1. You need to leave your smartphone at the entrance. Most workers need 100% attention on the monitor. It is a boring job to do the same thing 8 hours a day. Unlike front end of chip in design like in NVidia or AMD, if you get bored, you check your email or browse Internet using your smartphone. Inside the fab plant, no can do. 2. Overtime is almost guaranteed every day. There are three shifts each lasting 8 hours. But the previous shift workers have to tell the next shift workers the work process. So each day you work like 8.5 hours or 9 hours. Actually it is lucky to get American worker to do the real work 4 hours a day. Most of the times people are browsing Internet, watch RU-vid etc. Working at TSMC, is very demanding. Working 9 hours straight with only short breaks would be the nightmare for most American workers. Unlike in Asia, you can find workers that can tolerate this work condition like this. In America, even high pay cannot attract workers that are willing to continue work 9 hours a day and take away your smartphone in the entrance and there is no Internet in your office. 3. American workers like to define their own pace. When clock strikes five, all work are stopped and will continue tomorrow. At TSMC, you have to explain the details regarding the progress. Both shift workers have to be on the same page then the previous shift workers could be dismissed. That means overtime everyday. These are the three problems that TSMC faces to find workers in Arizona or any state in America (or Germany). Americans are not built the same as Taiwanese, Japanese, South Korean or Chinese workers. Creative Americans are more suitable to take the front end design work in NVidia, AMD or Apple. Let back-end boring chip making stay in Taiwan. Not to force Taiwan moving fab plants to USA. It is a culture thing. The only exception is to build a small fab plant with enough personnel to make military chips in case China invade Taiwan and TSMC has to destroy own plants in Taiwan. Then the world no longer has advanced chips but USA still can make a few chips for missiles and other military applications.

GF an alternative to TSMC is the most puzzling comment of the interview. GF decided not to pursue the advanced nodes needed for AI chips for the Nvidia, AMD, Meta, Microsoft, Google, Amazon needs to stay ahead. GF has good technology for all sorts of other applications, like iot and comm.

Where's Intel? They fell from a good height...
@artfquinn
@artfquinn Месяц назад
It is more than that. TSMC only make chips based on designs. They don't have any design business. There was instance that Apple present their CPU design to Samsung fabrication plant. Then Samsung studied the design and copy the features in their smartphone. NVidia, AMD and Apple won't give their designs to Intel in fear that Intel will copy or reverse engineer their designs in similar products.Everybody trust TSMC because they built that trust in decades.
