@@kwaty Absolutely! However, I consider myself very lucky to see such luminaries as Bob Cole, Darren Dutchysen, Bill Hewitt, Rick Jeanneret, Danny Gallivan, and John Madden (to name a few) bring their own unique style of broadcasting to the masses - something many of the younger generations never got to witness.
I grew up in an Edmonton in the 80’s and I’ll always remember one hilight quote about a Dave Semenko fight. It was in the winter and Dutch adds: “and Semenko drops him like the mercury in Edmonton”
Met him over 20 years ago at high park while he was chewing on sunflower seeds watching his son play baseball.. Nice guy, down to earth. I’m sorry for his family.
Rod Smith - you are a gentleman and such a professional. Just hearing your voice again brings back so many amazing memories. Thank you all for doing this segment. Such a sad day for Canadian Sports Fans
"Back to back jacks" and " chucking the knuckles" are two phrases that I will always remember. I rarely feel a loss with a public figure, but I do feel it with Darren Dutchyshen . We're all grieving with you. R.I.P.
When I was a teenager, I loved watching TSN highlights in the morning before school. Dutch was my fav! Definitely one of the best in the business. RIP 🙏
I know im not the only Canadian (Hamiltonian here, Go Ti-Cats) who grew up in the 90's and remembers hearing Dutchs voice as the last thing heard before walking out the door for school in the morning. This really sucks. R.I.P Darren.
Dutchy was a huge part of my childhood routine; watching him on SC every morning before school, from about 4th grade all the way through high school. He had an iconic voice and an incredible way with words. RIP big guy.
Dutchy was the best to ever do it. There will not be another highlight pack that comes close to the way he did his job. You could tell by the way he was on tv that he was one of those larger than life characters. Dutchy will always have a spot in my childhood and I’ll forever be grateful for growing up in Canada and watching him talk sports every single day. Rest easy big man.
From his days on ITV through his days on TSN there was nobody better at doing a highlight package. He has set the bar for all others! RIP Dutchy!! You'll be missed but never forgotten
This guys voice and overall presence was a huge part of my childhood and high school years. Late night after the games were over I’d watch his segment, or early the next morning as I was getting ready for school. This one hit hard - and he’s not someone I’ve seen much of over the last 10 years as much, but when I saw his passing this morning. Man, wow. I feel that mourning feeling. That we lost a really really good one you know? One of the best to ever do it, and just a real one. RIP Dutchy
We will miss his laughter, huge smile, sense of fun, intelligence and empathy. A life well lived and he was loved, deepest condolences and sympathies to his wife, family, friends and colleagues. 💐💐💐
In my early 20's I worked Security at the studios where there had (at the time) both TSN and Sportsnet on one lot. I remember walking through the hallways and seeing Dutch go back and forth and you could absolutely "feel" his aura as he walked by. The man bent the walls around him with his presence. You know how sometimes people say you can "feel someone enter a room" - yeah, he had that in droves, and you could tell that he was so respected and revered among his colleagues. You'd turn a corner and here comes this absolute tank of a man strolling towards you, so accomplished, so dignified - and you could just tell that he earned every bit of it from us as viewers, and doubly so from his peers/industry. Rest In Power Dutch. You were the heartbeat of that crew and everyone knew it. Condolences to his family.
I will always remember how Dutch could connect you to whatever spot he was talking about and make you want to know more about it. Forever in our harts. Thanks Dutch
His wit, his humor, his larger than life personality. He stood head and shoulders above everyone. But as a Captain he made everyone feel welcomed, assisted when needed and made sure whatever broadcast he was apart of wasn't just a broadcast. He'll be missed.
I Met Darren at a Radio Station and he was like Bright ✨Northern✨ Lights!!! Funny, Witty and a REAL😇 Gem!!! R. I. P.❤ @Dutchy! Gone to Soon!!! Thinking 🙏of your Wife & Family❤ Today.
NFG... I miss my old Friend...we all used to share Pitchers of cold beer and miles of dialog before Fame stole him away ...Darren and I were like 2 Auctioneers when we were in the same room, he was a buzzsaw when it came to natural wit and humor. Darren was a man brave enough to embrace change and to roll with the punches and always come out on top , what a great Friend and what a Great Role Model. R.I.P BigDog.
@@BobsUruncle-dl7cs Cool!!! 😇What GREAT Stories 'n' Memories you have of❤ Dutchy Eh!!! My Heart🤗❤ goes out to you friend!!! You will Always have those Good 🙏Thoughts 4-Ever!!!
I used to watch Darren Dutchyshen on Sports Night on ITV/Global at 11pm in Edmonton back in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s and was the best show. Darren and Bryan Hall and their arguments/disagreements were the best also 😂 . Rest in peace!!
@@carlfalt174what are you even talking about? Steinke was a new anchor that joined ITV several years after Darren started hosting Sports night and Matheson was a print writer for the Edmonton Journal.
@@TH-tl6sy that's odd because Gord put on his X account a writing of rembrance of the time when they worked together at ITV and maybe Bill had retired by that time from doing the weather forecasts at the station
I Hope TSN does a larger edit with snippets of everyone talking about him that used to work on the show. That would be fantastic to hear everyone’s thoughts on this legend of a guy
Met Dutchy in Vancouver ten years ago at the Grey Cup festivities. Such a great guy to chat with. And getting a picture with him and Kate was also awesome. Found the pic in my camera roll today. So glad I kept it. F**k Cancer! Rest easy Dutchy. Thank you for everything.
We have all lost people we loved and I'm sure that we can all agree that it makes it a lot easier to cope and go through when people speak of our loved ones in this way. I sincerely hope that the family's grief is made more tolerable by stories such as these.
The story about running in Aurora topless on the first day of summer is hilarious. Also the “No angle, dangle!”. Thanks for sharing these awesome stories!! What an awesome guy! May his memory forever be a blessing.
Dutchy was the greatest! TSN's team of personalities is amazing. I grew up with you guys in the 90s and today still enjoy everyone and all the segments.
What was beautiful about this man was at the end of my day, especially a rough day whether professionally or personally, all I had to do was turn on Dutch and the worries were swept away in an instant with his smile, energy and humor. If we had more people like Dutch in Canada, we would be a better place. RIP.
Darren Dutchychen was authentic, genuine. It shone through in an industry where image is so valued. Truly a loss. RIP. Peace and love to his family and loved ones.
I grew up watching the Dutch and he will be missed. Definitely my fav sports broadcaster and he taught me a lot even though I didn't even know him.. RIP
"Delgado. At the dish. BYAK-TA-BYAK JYAKS." "There's no angle? DANGLE." "Renteria. GONNORHEA." Rip Dutchy TSN of course with the classy reminiscing tribute session with former friends and co-workers.
I remember seeing a broadcast clip on Twitter and he was so ripped he was bulging out of his jacket. I tweeted that he must have grabbed Duthie's jacket by mistake. He replied laughing . Made my day. Rest in peace big man.
This feels so surreal and personal because Dutchy seemed to be in our homes, not just on TV. There were times I almost expected him to get up from behind the desk, walk into my kitchen and make himself a sandwich. His presence was that big. I admire James Duthie, Jennifer Hedger and Rod Smith for doing this, knowing how heartbroken they are for the loss of their collegue and friend. My condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and everyone who welcomed him into their homes. Rest easy, Dutchy, youll be missed but never forgotten. RIP
I got to watch Dutchy on ITV Global Edmonton before he went to TSN what a passion he had back then and a prankster as well. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
It’s so tragic yet heartwarming seeing and hearing the emotion from James, Jennifer and Rod. The TSN crew has been a family for many many years and we’ll all miss the Dutch. I remember watching him on ITV Edmonton as a kid. And so many great memories that’ll live on
Dutchy you were great ! I always loved watching you, you were definitely one of my favs. I'm deeply saddened of your passing ! You were loved and will always be missed 💔 😔
To James Duthie, Jennifer Hedger and Rod Smith. My sincere condolences for the loss of your colleague and close friend🙏🏻I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Dutchyshen when I worked in Toronto. He was very approachable and friendly. Everyone who met Dutchy is feeling the shared sense of loss that we no longer have his masterfully unique sports broadcasting and good humor available to us. Then I remembered a Dr. Seuss quote, “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” We’re all so grateful that you happened in our lives. Rest easy Dutchy🙏🏻🎙️
We need a special event "whatever", to remember The Dutch for eternity. Huge part of my childhood till recent sports viewing pleasure... he always made me smile and somehow, I had a jump to my step after listening to him. I never met him, but only wish more people could have... what a person! May his spirit thrive and possess sports casters to come!!! Love ya Dutch
I feel like we grew up with Dutch. What an amazing character. He was having so much fun at his work. This is quite a shock. He will be missed but not forgotten. ❤
My brother and I both grew up in Prince George watching Dutch along with Perry Solkowski on ITV sportsnight at 10pm...we each spoke to each other when we heard the sad news. God bless RIP will be forever missed!❤
Can't tell you how many times, at the end of a long day, De Dutch had the highlights with such enthusiasm he literally forced me to smile. He was the voice of hockey for such a long time, so sad to hears he's gone. Guy needs a spot in the Hockey Hall. Well two spots. One for Broadcasting, the other for relentlessly bad jokes.
Thank you Dutch, big part of childhood. Watched tsn since I understood hockey, 2004. All the tsn moments, with rod here talking brings back memories as well. Rip sir.
I've watched Dutch for a really, really long time. He was a sportscaster in Edmonton for local news before TSN days. My memories of watching him literally go back as far as I can remember.... Condolences to his family and loved ones. R.I.P. Dutchy.
He made watching highlights fun. Best hockey line ever; “Beats him like a rented mule!” Classic! Grew up watching Dutch like millions of others. We’re all saddened. RIP
Dutchie coming back for that last run is kinda Gord Donnie like. He gave everyone across Canada another chance to watch the goat do his thing. I really hope he knew how loved he was nationwide by sports fans. He was our Stuart Scott. He was the voice of sports in this country for 30 years. I used to fall asleep to the sportscentre loop every night, so he was kinda my Johnny Carson too. RIP Dutchie. Condolences to his family, friends and coworkers.
Thank you for sharing those stories. Dutchy was a fun guy to watch and listen. He was really good. My condolences to the family and all his co-workers at TSN.
Rest in Peace Dutchy! Always a great guy, he enjoyed chatting with fans wherever he went. I ran into him a bunch of times over the years when I would go on yearly trips to the Grey Cup with my dad. Always a class act and great fruendly guy in general! He was the voice of sports for basically my whole life, nobody even came close to him! He will be missed dearly!
