HI there, I came across your interesting video. Thanks for mentioning Revolution's MMA/JNA box wagons. Re the price: it is the same as our N gauge equivalents. Although we will spend some extra on tooling to allow us to depict accurate detail variations such as 9-rib and 11-rib bodies with our without side doors and variations in brake equipment, the over-riding factor in setting price is the number of models you expect to make. For TT:120 we lack hard data so we have done our best to keep the price realistic. They are designed for customers who've ordered 66s to have something properly modern, as the 4-wheel HAA coal hoppers and TTA tankers are now largely out of use. Speaking of which, you'd need at least 24 coal wagons for a realistic train - whereas our train formations diagram (glad you like it) show that 6-12 box wagons make for a perfectly prototypical modern train. So while individual wagons may cost more, the total train can be less!

I am loving TT, having fun, making the odd mistake and learning from it. It’s got me into the hobby after a huge gap and I don’t think 00 or N would have managed that. My TT:120 wish list as follows: 1. Sound fitted, power bank fitted Class 08. I know there are some really clever DIY options out there, but I don’t think I’m capable of undertaking the modifications - I want to buy it off the shelf. And buying all the bits to do a DIY job isn’t cheap. Yes, I understand the production difficulties, and I’m happy to be patient. Well, a bit patient 😁. 2. Yes, a DMU. Both the above I think are an opportunity. TT is all about making the most of small spaces, and I love it. I love seeing my 50 pulling a long rake of carriages, ditto my Duchess. But they look clumsy as soon as you put them on a smallish layout. Both a sound fitted 08 and a DMU would look great on a small layout and bring it alive. 3. And finally, mainly for selfish reasons, a class 31. I think Hornby are planning one, so yes please. Why? Because my first train set when I was a kid was a Triang Freight master with a class 31, and I want to re-kindle the joy that set gave me. Thanks for the video!

I very much welcome the magnetic couplers supplied with the new Mk2s in TT:120. I usually use ones from TJmodeles here in France. I have to say, I am a bit worried about the lifespan of the Hornby couplers - they seem a bit weak and I find you have to be careful not to accelerate a long train too quickly or you leave some of the coaches behind. I too would welcome a six pin HM7000 sound decoder for my 08s. All of my other TT models are HM7000 sound decoder fitted. I realise there's more space needed on a Bluetooth decoder but I'm sure it could be done with a bit of ingenuity. Nice round up!
@modeloco
@modeloco Месяц назад
@@Michaelgoestofrance Hi Michael, Thank you 🙏 interesting about the Hornby magnetic couplings and I’m only going on the OO offerings, I have at present, which are really good. They sometimes feel a little too powerful on both makes I’ve tried, if anything. My thinking is if they’re too strong it would pull the coupling right out. Has this happened at all with the ones you’ve tried? Yes, need that 6-pin sound decoder option. I feel the TT community want sound more than the OO but, the top end sound locos always seem to sell best. One more thing is that any ideas we think, even if they may seem a bit silly or whatever should be said as it’s often the things we say in passing that trigger another’s imagination and vice versa. Sometimes even the perceived negative comments or criticisms can spur you on more. Still feel sad that Simon Kohler, was kind of mysteriously, retired so soon after all the dedication he put into this scale and him reaching out so directly, to ourselves, the consumers was another fearless achievement he brought to the UK modeller. There aren’t many who give that, unfortunately, unless it’s sales related or they’re constantly buttered up a bit in my experience. In engineering they called it ‘…. licking’ and not many managers wanted those seemingly below their status, to find they were lacking in some way so, the yes men, rather than skill, innovation, etc got promoted instead to keep they’re position safe and that went up the ranks. I saw it as a young naïve apprentice, it looked as if it was encouraged. Ego and envy going hand in hand, yet the good only really want to help, it’s not about being right, it’s about doing the right thing and it’s stuck with me ever since👍 I’ve added this to my description. Thanks for the inspiration 🙏

Sometimes being out of the bubble, you can see things a lot clearer. For example, like cutting some footage out after a short break from editing as it was just too much. Hi… Great video, full of interesting and forward thinking ideas and suggestions. Hornby in particular and other manufacturers would do well to take on board your suggestions. I particularly like the destination board idea among others. It would be fantastic if the likes of Accurascale got into TT scale. That’s great to hear this Steve. The Hornby bashing of products in OO, ones that I had and cherished and being told they were virtually rubbish as TT:120 hit the shelves, whilst in the next breath being told to go look at Accurascale, actually put me off even looking because I felt if such voices can be so biased one way, then of course, that can work both ways, maybe due to something lacking and this then having a reverse outcome with how I saw the positives pushed👍 Regards, Andy

Re: HM7000 decoders 50% cheaper. TXS decoders can play only 3 sounds (automatic/triggered) at any one time. Zimo & ESU offer up to 8 seperate sounds being played. Also, you have the option of sound files from DCKits, Roads & Rails, Yoochoos and other sound creators. With the HM7000 you are totally tied to the Hornby ones. The only other sound decoders with Bluetooth at this time are Soundtraxx Blunami.

Hello, The simple HM|DCC, from within the app, downloadable/re-programmable sound decoders which are being updated as we go along is also a great plus point here for HM7000. We can also hear and sample these and if we don’t like, possibly change. Not all sound files are as well recorded/compressed as others so, needing bigger speakers. You have to know this and not knowing, can be quite confusing to many as well and, be an expensive learning curve. I certainly used to think all ESU sound decoders had the same sound files on them, regardless of where you purchased 🤔. Do also like the simple volume sliders, etc in the HM|DCC app to set these and the CV read outs, easily seen and adjusted if needs be as well. This came in to full effect adjusting the smoke generator CV Setting within mins. Thanks for the thoughts and feelings. Good to hear👍

Big issue you have missed is A3, A3 with only 2 beats of cylinder to the wheel revolution. This kills my wonderful TT120 locs in my view. As for new locomotives, an Austerity 2-8-0 would go nicely with the BR ER locomotives issued or planned. Yes certainly fitted ‘stay alive’ and sound options across the board, if N can have sound decoders in smallish diesels TT120 should be a no brainier with both. Your points re programmable destination boards for demure are well made, yes additional costs bur great idea that has not been looked at even in G where it should be simple on the LGB Allegra for instance.

Another interesting video Andy, you still need to change the battery in that smoke alarm it’s chirping away, I had to check mine last time till I realised it was yours! Looking at TT:120 some great ideas, a classic DMU is desperately needed, I’d be happy with any of the stalwarts for High Fell. Revolution Trains getting on board is super news, there are requests for them to consider making the 120 in TT but realistically if they said yes, it’s 2 years away. As a child every railway adventure started and ended with a rattling 101! The magnetic close couplings in TT:120 from Hornby are great, we need packs of those available. If the could make them reversible that would be superb. I have been having great fun adding lights to coaches, on with a tail light on a TT:120 brake van today, yes lights are good but also easy projects for the beginner modeller too. @@modeloco No, I sold off my OO models quite a while back now, most were pre NEM sockets. I know a lot of people really rate the Hornby coupling options other than tension lock ones. I do like the TT:120 standard ones, my magnetic uncoupling tool (video available) I think makes these really effective on shunting and marshalling operations. I tried some EasiShunts very early in TT and didn’t get along with them at all in Arnold Ferry Vans Adding to this, there were two companies that made TT:120 type auto uncouplers (decoder driven) similar to ones Bachmann are announcing. The TT ones have disappeared but hopefully Bachmann will create interest via their OO ones, great idea.

I wanted to run a glasgow/Edinburgh push pull train it took about 10 years of experience to achieve this I now double head or top and tail with a non powered loco at one end low tech sometimes wins! the crucial factors are no such thing as a model railway they are all just wee trains they respond to the same dynamics you must have proper back to backs and wheel profiles proper pickups and weight distribution on a loco and good compatible couplings for instance I had a Heljan garret running at its full speed with plus 60 mineral wagons weighted heavy to light to the back now after a few laps the thoughts moved to how the fuck do we stop this in on piece! thanks for listening
