Walked from the Braddan Bridge Campsite to Union Mills to watch the practice at 18:00. 15+ riders through with no issues until #54 came down the hill & overcooked the right hander outside the Railway Inn. Locked everything up, hit the curb, bounced into the padding & back into the road. Sod’s law says I missed video’ing the crash itself, so this is seconds later. The rider jumped up straight away, checked out by the doctor & seems fine. A lucky competitor from the Republic of Ireland - James Chawke . Someone else captured the crash itself • tt 2022 crash
The majority of marshals are bikers, the lead marshals have years of experience, indepth incident management & other training. They're all volunteers, doing it for the love of the sport. This is worth a watch • The TT's Golden Hour

As a marshal myself when there's no traffic or danger we try get bikes into neutral if it's in center of the track so we can run with it, in many cases we've had to drag bikes from the middle as the gear selector break's off or a break gets jammed. When it's on the edges we pick up and drag away.

I think the majority of the volunteers are of a certain age and they have been doing it for years. You can’t just rock up and be a marshal, you must attend training courses in the UK, NI or the IOM before you can marshal. Expenses is another thing, you need 2 weeks off work, 2 weeks accommodation, flights or ferry and you have to get to your marshalling point every day. I think you would get more younger volunteers if some of those expenses were covered. As for the incident there would be someone further down the road in both directions of the stricken machine yellow flagging and showing other riders what side to go to, there is constant communication with race control and sector marshals as well. They can only move the machine when it’s safe to do so for riders and marshals.🏍🏍🇮🇲🇮🇲Well done to all the marshals at this and every other TT……without you the racing wouldn’t happen.🙏

It’s the TT folks. That’s how it works. The bike was off line and there would’ve been yellows out. You have any idea how many Marshall’s you need on a 37 mile track? Too many experts and not enough doers commenting here that know absolutely nothing.
@Greeves
@Greeves Год назад
It’s 500-600 marshals needed for every hour the roads are closed
@ononewheellad
@ononewheellad Год назад
I think it’s the hap hazard leisurely way the marshals went about their business. Leaving the rider himself to get the bike up so it can be taken away safely. Members of the public shouldn’t be involved in this.
@Greeves
@Greeves Год назад
@@ononewheellad they were waiting for Race Control & neighbouring marshal teams to secure the track before they could safely touch the bike. Then their priority was to get the track back open; not tend to the damaged bike
@ononewheellad
@ononewheellad Год назад
@@Greeves I’m not going to Labour my point as you are determined to see it otherwise. The quickest way to get that bike off the road was to stand it up and push it away. It would probably have only taken 2 marshals, it’s a wee super twin. That would have achieved the safety goal a lot quicker with less damage to the bike.

Priority is the safety of the course, marshals and riders and removing any remaining hazards so that section can go back to green flag ASAP. Quite properly they focused on that once they got the bike out of the way. I am sure the rider fully appreciated that.

Three marshalls couldn't stand the bike up !
@Greeves
@Greeves Год назад
Lifting it could spill more fluids onto the circuit. Warm, sticky racing tyres are difficult to move; the front wheel wouldn't turn 360 degrees and the bike will be in gear - possibly stuck there if the levers are damaged. Quicker & safer to drag it off rather than fiddle with it on the live circuit (even with yellow flags out)
@jimt7851
@jimt7851 Год назад
That rider may have been concussed yet the only real helpers are those guys without the luminous jackets on. Those marshalls need sacking for doing nothing except dragging the "scrap" off the track. WTF are they doing there.

I get that they are volunteers. However, I have crashed a bike at speed and I imagine that the rider was still in shock, judging by the way he picked up the bike using mostly his back. Imagine crashing your bike, and having to pick it up by yourself. "Not good." I would love to volunteer if someone would pay my way over and put me up 😇🤠 Greetings from Canada.

@rosemarydudley9954
@rosemarydudley9954 Год назад
In the TT races the bikes are few and sometimes far between. They have a 10 second start between each rider and sort out their own speeds, whether they catch up or not. (I am not slating your comments)

@deanhackett349
@deanhackett349 Год назад
@@manx1569 I know that but that doesn’t help the situation and infact makes it worse, there needs to be proper marshalling on the circuit, if this kind of thing happened in professional racing the circuit would be banned, it really doesn’t help the TT by seeing this sort of thing and will only be another nail in its coffin which would be a great shame so surely this video should encourage better marshalling standards for the future and for the longevity of this great race, I appreciate the fact that they are volunteers but the promoters should step in and make it more professional in my opinion and put some money in.
