Vlog 253 - In this video we give TU Delft (‪@tudelft‬) Campus tour as a walking tour around the whole campus covering different buildings from outside to give an idea to the incoming international students to TU Delft to study in Netherlands. We go around campus from city center crossing the architecture faculty till the EEMCS faculty, sports and culture and ending before the aerospace faculty covering different faculties, library, aula in between!

1:10 That bridge was closed for 1 year before Covid hit, glad to hear that it reopenned. Going from the station to campus via bus will be much faster now.

That's like an electric/ battery car completely environment friendly developed by TU Delft students in house! :) You will see that 1 or 2 times more in the video later too :)

I do have some questions about doing PhD in Netherlands. In USA it is like Course work+ research, how about in Netherlands? One of the benefits of doing PhD in USA is the candidate will have a strong foundation on theoretical side (from course work) and this could help to speed up the research. If it is (in Netherlands) just research, do we get some time to do/audit some course to make our foundation strong? How often you can meet your advisor? Is it possible to meet him/her once in 2 days or very often? I read somewhere that in Netherlands universities we will have a main supervisor and a daily mentor (terminology might be wrong). So what does it mean by daily mentor/supervisor? Is it and advisor whom we can meet very often? Thanks in advance.

In Netherlands PhD is a job. Normally everyone builds a strong foundation during Masters here or in Europe. Also, you have so much flexibility during PhD that you can do any course or training you like and no one will stop you but doing a PhD in Netherlands doesn't involve mandatory coursework. One thing that I can say from experience and what I have heard from others is that PhD in most Western European countries is much better in terms of exposure, research work, networking, efficiency, salary as compared to USA! You can meet your advisor as many times you want whenever you need. It is just that daily supervisor is more reachable and other professors or promotors might be less reachable for f2f or online meetings say once a week or once every 2 weeks :)

SambitPhD I do have few more questions. In Netherlands we need to have Master to apply for PhD. Can we apply for PhD in different branch from our masters? For example, can I apply for PhD position in aerospace if I do have masters in mechanical? And how about submission of application?Is it first to contact a faculty member and then apply to university or directly apply to the university. You already mentioned it is like a job in Netherlands. So is it like apply for advertised position?

Hey, your videos are really helpful for a prospect indian student like me. Wanted to ask you a personal question. I'm a very short male(5'3), would that be an issue there in terms of social interactions considering NL to be know for being very tall. I know it's a bit weird question but still do share your honest perspective on this.

No, I have many friends like that and I have never heard anyone facing any problem as such regarding their height. So, you shouldn't worry. Good luck for coming to the Netherlands!

Bhai mene suna hai ki Netherlands me after 3yr of bsc in computer science We cannot apply for master in computer science Before applying for master we have to do pre master

I don't think there is something called campus housing but obviously you will find many options nearby the open campus :)

Depends on the university requirements. Nowadays they don't need it while some required TOEFL. Better check their admission opening details
