Using a string of rectifier diodes to adjust voltage in .8 volt steps (the late Richard Measures AG6K) by employing a rotary switch for a switchable bias in triode RF amps works well when an easily selected choice of 1-2 signal modes is desired.
Adding resistor in series with SS diode will create voltage drop similar to one in tube rectifier. By changing the values of resistance the sag effect can be adjusted.
I guess the question is why not use a tube When that sound is the desired result, and you sell as they rectifiers for Hi-Fi and other situations where you want very natural reproduction. Tubes make the right sound, they're low cost and long life.
I heard a guy from Orange say I'm "when people hear power p distortion they may actually be rectifier distortion" I'm interested in faking power to amp distortion with a pedal in the loop of a ss amp I have maybe I'll just in put in one in in there id
My 5y3 was making distorted sound in my champ, thought the 8" speaker might have blown, replaced everything but rectifier, no luck, swapped another 5y3 and the distorted non musical notes when dimed disappeared. Have you encountered this? Thanks
bad rectifiers do strange things, so I don't doubt that could have been the cause. Bad power supply caps have this exact same symptom, so a rectifier could do it as well.
