i noticed it was a nicely machined taper fitting.i dont know if that helps.but i am positive that gorilla tape will do the same job

I've done this to 4 sets of rims counting from 2016 and none of them had any problems when i did it like in the video. I would even dare to say you wouldnt even need to overlap it.

Common sense says you would overlap more as well.

I've had my rims taped since 2017 and still holding strong.

No the tape is flexible and it has a plastic layer over the top of the sticky part. The sticky part is 1mm thick.

How do you do the front wheel. The nipples project too much to get a good seal.

@@bojangles3147 I just used Clear Gorilla Tape and my wheels have been good for 2 years with no air leaks. It makes putting the tire on an easy job with no tube in the way. I think that the guy in the video is using 3M tape which is very good as well. Gorilla Tape is really sticky and being clear you can see through it to make sure that all the air bubbles are gone. I hope that this helps.

7316bobe thx, but the question was about width, and that depends completely on wheel size. But good to know, I have seen 3m tape, silicon, and now gorilla tape is a option.

@@bojangles3147 The Gorilla tape that I have used was 50mm wide. I put the first strip around the rim over the spoke screws. I then put another layer overlapping at the edge right around on the left side of the first tape and did the same on the right side. I have changed the tire once since I did this and the tape is still in perfect condition. When I did this I could not find the perfect right size of Schrader valve and so I had to file the hole in the rim slightly bigger by about 2 or 3 thousands of an inch. Just a tiny bit and then the valve thread went through with no trouble.

Hi again and I just want to say now that I am a 66 year old man and I only ride my motorcycle on fine days and not in the rain. If I was to do this job again I would put the silicon paste around the spoke nipples and let it dry before putting the tape over them around the rim. The reason for this silicon is to stop any water that may come in from outside the rim down the spoke and in through the spoke nipple hole. If this happens then the silicon stops the water from getting under the tape. If you do a lot of riding in the rain or through water puddles you will really need the silicon around the spoke nipples under the tape.

I've had my wheels sealed like this from 2017 and still no problem whatsoever. Have had 2 tires changes during this time and the tape looked like it was new, this is because it not out in the elements, no moisture and UV lights.

Hi, your excels arent even that expensive. I just did a set, that the wheelshop screwed up the offset on, and i had to take al the tape back off to send it back and have the wheel re dished. wasnt hard at all.

@@EnglertRacing96 cool. They cost me alot because I needed a custom drilled rim and custom spokes because I choose a old XL600R with a conical hub. Cost me $1200 for the rims spokes hubs and I built them myself. If I had to change the off set I could.

@@johnmeurer4780 Yeah I had Dubya relace the stock wheels for my sxv550 they are BEHR rims on stock hubs, The stock spokes were ugly and the nipples showed some corrosion. I wanted a solid set of spokes true and tight before I taped them tubless. I had custom double butted 8-9-8g rear spokes made and custom 9-10-9g front spokes made by buchannons (my fetish for double butted spokes comes from bicycles where straight gauge are not considered classy [hell youll find many stock honda spokes are actually single butted]), then used dubya spline drive nipples. I had dubya lace them as like I said I wanted them ROCK solid before taping.... they screwed it up, could have done that all on my own lol. Different from this video i used a gasket punch set to cut out 3/4" circles of 10mil christies pvc pipe wrap tape which i placed over each nipple before taping. before removing the 3m 4412N for the redishing I gave some nipples a twirl, and the christies tape allowed to nipple to spin without disturbing anything.

Ok folks...I'm back..Riding consumed my time...Tape is The Real Deal....cheaper than Outex and does the job just as well or even better. Definitely a 10 outta 10

Actually if properly done there's no leakage whatsoever. Done my supermoto rims this way 2 years ago and still holding.

3M 520 marine seal, the fast setting kind, around the spoke nipples. Then tape. An 8 mm valve stem and done. Make sure the rim is true and all the spokes sound the same when plucked, before you do the sealing. As far as adjusting the spokes afterwards, how many times do actually have to fool with them?

@@lengray44 I am going to try just the tape. It is so sticky it will never come off. It's soft pliable sticky backing layer is 1mm thick and it has a 0.01mm plastic strip over the top of that. It is rated for roof weather stripping in the outdoors so inside a tire it should last forever. People with car spoked wheels are using this tape to seal the rims as well. It is really good stuff. 3M 4412N The only problem that I can see is how you would ever get the stuff back off again of you had to for some reason.
