It's a tubing mascara showdown today. I'm trying on 9 and ranking them from worst to first. I LOVE a tubing mascara. I've been using tubing formulas for over 15 years, and I always have one on hand. These are the 9 that are currently in my collection. I wanted to try them on for you, and describe why I like (or dislike) each one. They range in price from $13 to $26 each. I've never tried that one. I'm glad that there are great "affordable"ones these days. (beauty pie and Heimish) I love a lushous lash, and many of these give me that when I have curled and lined my eyes.

This is the first time I've ever tried Thrive. I wouldn't know if they changed their formula. 🤷‍♀️ I didn't want to pay the $$$ for Thrive years ago, and not being able to buy it in store was a real sticking point for me. Obviously, those aren't problems for me anymore. I really like the Caliray mascara. I'm going to look to see if they're doing a holiday set again this year. 🤞 2 for the price of 1 is always better. I just found your channel and absolutely love tubbing mascaras. Everything else smudges on me within an hour. I did not like the Velour mascara either, mine was dry too. I really like the LA Girl Volumatic Tubbing mascara, and have tried so many, but always looking for something better. Thanks for posting this video! ❤

Thank you for this showdown! You're so kind and helpful. I, too, love a tubing mascara, and have been using tubing formulas for over 10 years. Alas, most tubing mascaras that I've tried over the years smudge or flake on me (DHC, Kevyn Aucoin, Clinique...). So far, the one that looks the best and flakes the least is Hourglass Unlocked. I've yet to try the Estee Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge. If you ever decide to do another round of this showdown, I'd love to see those two featured, please and thank you. :)

My favorite is Thrive. I love putting it only at the ends of my lashes, over a regular mascara. Because my lashes are so wispy, they don’t take tubing mascara so well, but that way, I get fantastic lenght.

I really like the Thrive mascara, but the Tarte didn't work for me. Too much crumbling. I'm curious about the XL version. I'm not sure I'll pick it up, but I am curious.

I want short fat intense lashes. I haven’t found my ideal mascara yet but I do love trying them. I have price ranges from Chantecaille to Essence. @The Lipstick Gal - Over 40 Beauty thank you! Yes the Tarte is $50 here and the Heimish $20 so a significant saving! I love Asian Skincare but never think to try the makeup! I do like the mac gigablack - I'm pretty sure that's a tubing one (it's even more expensive than the tarte, I actually got the tarte to replace that one!)

The one from VB gives more length than volume, spreads very well, has a great hold and is easier to remove than other tubing mascaras. My next favourite is the DHC Perfect Pro Mascara , it's less pricey but performs also very well. It just can't be removed so easily like the VB.

Your tubing mascara ranking was very easy to listen to. You seem like you are very genuine and helpful. Very good information on how the products perform. Well done. I have to say though that the whole reason I am researching is because I want to find out which one washes off well and performs like a genuine tubing mascara. A real quick scale of one to ten on how well it performs washing off would be helpful next time. I know I have tried the Tarte one and it certainly didn't wash off like the Thrive. I don't like paying for Thrive shipping so I'm looking for something else.

The Heimish, Beauty Pie, EM, Cali Ray and Thrive are all super easy to wash off and come off in tubes. I also find that the new elf lash EXTNDR comes off in tubes and it's only $10.

The Caliray (and Tower 28) are the first tubing mascaras that eliminated my need for using an eyelash curler...they give me a lift and curve.

I've been using Maybelline Sky High and like it. I think I will try the Milani though. I am loving tubing mascaras. So easy to get off my eyes!

I have the exact same lashes as you do, and have been annoyed by purchasing some mascaras recently that claimed to be tubing but were NOT. Taking notes for some of these I want to try! My non-tubing fave is Covergirl Supersizer but it is a pain to remove.

Love the cover girl super sizer. It's been a long time since I've had a tube, but for years it was all I wore. Affordable tubing mascaras that perform well are hard to find. I still haven't been able to get my hands on the essence bye bye panda eyes, but I've seen mixed reviews. 🤷‍♀️ I think it's the most affordable tubing mascara out there at $5. It's the least expensive one I know about, but it's always out of stock at my local Ulta. 🤷‍♀️ I hate when the word "washable"is used on mascara packaging. It's so misleading. 😫 The new one from L'Oreal says it's washable, but it's not a tubing formula. I look like a 🦝 every time I try to wash it off. It takes balm cleaner, foaming cleanser, micellar water and a q-tip to get out all off. That's so much more effort than I want to put in.

Love tubing mascaras but unfortunately the best I've found is Kevyn Aucoin 's The Volume but its so pricey. My eyelashes are fine and long but curl too much so I'm searching for a tubing mascara that will help weigh them down so I might try the Milani!

As you were describing your lashes, all I could think of was the Milani one might be perfect for you. I'm glad it's not too expensive. I haven't tried the one from Kevyn Aucoin. Great video. When I was looking for a mascara that didn’t flake or smudge, the store suggested a tubing mascara and recommended Tartelette tubing mascara. Since it was a first tubing mascara for me, I didn’t know what to expect. I have to agree with you as I’ve been disappointed with the results. I also find it flakes near the end of the day and also it doesn’t easily remove when washing off. Together with the price and given I was looking to get away from a mascara that flakes, this one has been a disappointment. I am excited to try out one of your recommendations. Thank you so much.

There certainly are better options out there. I love the one from heimish, and I like the new one from elf. Lash EXTNDR. It's new this year. It doesn't give add much volume as the heimish or beauty pie one, but it's less expensive, easier to purchase, and under $10. If you're looking for a high end option, I like the Cali Ray and the thrive cosmetics one. I haven't replaced either of them yet, but I have repurchased the beauty pie and the heimish ones.

@@lindakeefer349 heimish is a Korean brand. They make excellent skincare and I like both the curling and volumizing formulas. I usually purchase from Ohlolly.com. You can also get it from bloomingkoco.com. Both of these companies ship from inside the US, so the wait isn't as long as it is with companies like stylevanna and yesstyle. I've also picked up the heimish on iherb.com before.

Thank you for the video! I only missed to know which ones wash off in pieces. Some tubing mascaras wash off with warm water but not in pieces and this is important to me because of my dark circles. I landed in here cuz my forever one was discontinued and can be found only for double the price now: “L’oreeal double extension beauty tubes technology mascara”. I’ve tried the one from Clinique and felt it dried out too fast. Now using a german drugstore “Catrice Glam&Doll” which is super cheap and does the trick but it does not wash off in pieces. Will prob try the Heimish one next as they declare to do so. :)

I didn't think about including that info when I was making this video. Some of them actually come off in tubes, and some crumble off and smudge around. I'd avoid the tarte, Milani, and velour mascaras. The rest come off easily.

Thanks for the video. It’s really helpful, and I would love similar ones with other categories of makeup. I’m going to have to try the Caliray. I like the Thrive, but I don’t understand why they add weight to the tube. Why would I want to carry around a heavier tube?

I was just thinking the same thing. With all your makeup brand experience your opinion would be very much appreciated. I would love to see your favorites for powder blush, cream blush, the same with bronzers and highlighters and your favorite lipliners and lipsticks. Your lip oil video was fantastic! I think I'll try that hamish one. For me I have longish lashes that curl up naturally and are dense. I pretty much have what people want in eyelashes so I really go for volume to just have this thick band of lashes across my eyes. I like a good all around mascara.

I am a 77 yr old tomboy who wears nothing more than lipstick, and I am suddenly interested in mascara at my age. I had never heard of tubing mascara until today and so I came here to learn about it and as you try your first and favorite product on one eye, I am blown away by the after affect compared to your normal lashes. I am going to try this for sure!

I started wearing makeup in the 80s, and mascara back then was very different than today. I love the ease of tubing mascaras, and how they don't flake, smudge and are so easy to remove with warm water. They're totally worth the effort. Since I recorded this video, elf launched a tubing mascara. It's the Lash XTNDR. It comes in black and brown. I've been enjoying it, and it's only $10 at the drugstore. It's an easy way to walk into a store that carries elf, and try one at an affordable price. I hope you like tubing mascaras. I still love the Heimish one. It's so good!

I'm not sure which one this is. I have one I picked up at Macy's. Herringbone necklace that's gold plated Sterling silver, and I have one from d. Louise. It's 14k PVD coated. The gold plating over sterling silver isn't as hardy as the one from d. Louise. They're both still available for purchase, but I think this is plated over silver one.

Grabbed the popcorn. The last ranking of high-end mascaras I saw put the Tower 28 mascara in the first place which is very disappointing since it's just an ok mascara that dries up extremely quickly in the tube. The reviewer showed every mascara applied, and indeed there was nothing else to write home about XD I still haven't found a replacement for Bite Beauty Upswing. Much less something better.

I never tried the Bite mascara. I've tried so many tubing mascara over the years. I'd avoid the Lancome Le 8 hypnose, the Milani, the L'Oreal one in the double ended tube, the tarte tartelette, and the one in here that dried up. I'm forgetting the name. It was the high end one. 🤦‍♀️ Most of the rest of the ones I've tried are ok, but it really depends on what your lashes need. I love the look of a dramatic mascara, but I need the ease of removal a tubing mascara gives. For most days, I'm happy with a tubing mascara, but I still love my Lancome Monsieur Big for the drama.

I only use tubing mascaras, since they're the only ones that don't smudge on me (I have super oily eyelids, regular and waterproof mascaras don't stand a chance). My all time favorite is the Clinique Lash Power, I've used it for years and I've lost count of how many I've repurchased! Now I'm trying the Catrice Glam&Doll, but it still smudges at the end of the day

It's strange to me that there are so many tubing mascaras I've never tried. I've never tried the Clinique one. I'm putting it on my list. Thanks so much for the recommendation. I love a thick and chunky traditional mascara during colder months, but I live in tubing mascaras during the summer. Nothing else withstands the heat without going everywhere. I don't have particularly oily lids, but somehow I always get skincare on my lids, and game over! 🦝

@@thelipstickgal I feel you, I can get away with tradicional mascara during winter (as long as it's not very humid) but in the summer they all smudge big time 🦝 I've been eyeing the Tarte one (I don't think the other brands you've mencioned are sold in Portugal), maybe I'll buy the mini one to try :)

I feel like I need to try more tubing mascaras. The Thrive actually irritated my eyes. I didn't love the Tarte. When I get through some of mine, I will try more. I am in mascara overload. I am looking for length. Have an amazing week. ❌️⭕️

I'm sorry the Thrive one irritated your eyes. I've never had a mascara do that. I wonder if it's an ingredient? I like the one from Tarte, but I'm repurchasing a ton of other ones before that one. It's good, but at the price point, not my first repurchase. I also have a mascara overload, but when I obsess over a makeup item (like tubing mascaras) I want to try a lot before I come back with a verdict. @The Lipstick Gal - Over 40 Beauty My favorite mascaras are Benifit. I have some Mac and Dior up to bat next. Huda mascara irritated my eyes too. I haven't nailed down the ingredient yet. Happy hunting!❌️⭕️

Interesting, because I have used three on your list. I really disliked Caliray (threw it out after a few uses, which I never do); practically same opinion of Thrive (too gloppy). I'm currently using the trial size of Tartelette and I like it well enough, more than most reviewers. I first tried the L'Oreal tubing which came with a primer on the other end -- used for years and liked it a lot. Then, on to Blinc which I also used for years until I got a tube with a defective wand, then another which was dry, so I moved on. I like tubing mascaras for ease of removal, and they LAST all day without smearing (I often have tearing), and no smudging under the eye. I'm sure we each have different needs and preferences (why else would there be SO many brands?), but you and I are a perfect example of that. Now I'm curious about the Chantecaille Faux Cils Longest Lash Mascara, but not enough to pay $76!!

I think that the variation in how we apply makeup, our environment, and so much more is part of why things work different for different people. That's ok. You're right, we all have different needs and expectations. I've always been curious about the chantecaille mascara, but. . . 💸 It's too much due me to spend.

I wish mascaras would label which ones were tubing formulas right on the package. That would make it so much easier for me. If you try the beauty pie one, you might like it. My lashes are short and point down, and it does a good job with making them look longer. If elf cosmetics is available where you live, try the new Lash XTNDR. It's an affordable brand here in the US, and the mascara sells for $10. It's a great lengthening formula that comes off in perfect tubes.

I have been going through it trying to find a mascara that stays put all day with my active job. I like that tubing mascara doesn't smudge or melt, but I'm getting a lot of flaking of my lower lashes through the day. 🙁 Any advice? How do these stand up under heat and humidity?

I don't live in a humid area, so I can't speak to that. I prefer a tubing mascara in the summer because they're less prone to melt in the heat. There are very few tubing formulas I've tried that flake. The only one I can think of is the Tartelette Tubing Mascara. I prefer several less expensive formulas over the Tarte one. I get the best results when I layer and build a tubing formula until I get my desired effect. With a traditional mascara I can apply one side, move to the other, and bounce back and forth between each eye until I get the desired look. I find that doesn't work as well with a tubing formula. Try building until you get desired results without letting the previous layer dry. Then move to the other eye. Like most mascaras, a tubing formula will flake when it's starting to dry out in the tube. That's my sign it's time for a fresh tube. I like the elf Lash XTNDR mascara that came out late last year or early this year. It's an affordable one that's easy to find in drugstores and comes in brown and black.

Thrive mascara lasts forever. I put on mascara usually 1-3 times per week and it lasts months and months without needing to replace it. I get huge volume with the first and only coat. It rocks my world. It holds the curl pretty well.

1- closed captions decided you introduce yourself as Phillip Stigel, so that's a hoot, and 2- i believe No7 makes a tubing mascara but it's not marketed as such, it's like a stealth product!

Hee, hee! I never type out the captions, but let them auto generate. 🤣 That's hilarious! I've always looked for it at my Ulta and Walgreens, but neither of my stores sell that formula. When I'm placing an order, I forget to look of it online so I've never tried it. My "local" Target isn't selling no. 7 makeup in store anymore. 🤷‍♀️

Cali Ray builds on itself for a more voluminous look. Beauty Pie's brush and formula are great. If you're not a BP member the price is too much in my opinion. If you're already a BP member, it's totally worth it. When I last ordered it, it cost me $13. The Cali Ray is easier to get a hold of, but is in the $20+ price range. I like them both a lot, and I've repurchased both. It depends on your preference.

I still love Blinc. So many false tubing claims or like Thrive too spidery and thick. I’m still open in the future for another one.
