Home movie of Tucktonia (Bournemouth's answer to Alton Towers) taken in 1981. Its 5 minutes long and a bit boring but the best bit is right at the end, wipeout on the bumpy slide
I worked there in 1974/5. Drove the train for a while. Local kids would try to derail it by placing stones on the track. It was a fun and care free summer job. Opened a swimming pools in 1975 and I was nominated a lifeguard as I was a pretty good swimmer.
Wow. Fond memories of being taken there every summer holiday in the early 80's. Many of those rides would be deemed highly unsafe now, but back then we had a ball!!! Loved the model village too!
We use to stay at Bashley Park near New Milton and would always go to Tucktonia on our holidays. Brought back some good childhood memories of the late 70's and early 80's ☺
A health and safety nightmare :) I go past that place everyday and never even knew what was there before, but now I do and find it fascinating, your videos are a great snapshot of early 80s everyday life.. thanks for sharing.
I have photo's of myself and my brother on those "bouncy boats" taken by our parents at about the same time this film would have been recorded. I can't remember all of the deaths or serious injuries that occurred at the time due to lack of H & S. Perhaps in heavy industry, but all we have left in that ilk is the construction industry which I have worked in for many years and health and safety has gone mad, a money making machine, nothing more. Anyway that aside, thanks for posting, brings back memories of a nicer UK.
Thank you for the upload, having only heard of Tucktonia, i really enjoyed this video, especially the lovely narrow gauge train. Yes the slide did make me giggle :D
I lived down the road from Tucktonia. It was originally a golf course. We used to steal golf balls and sell them back for sixpence each. Harry Spiller kept his formula one cars at the back of the site. McCarthy and Stone built on the site.
Thanks for the memories. Simple pleasures. Nowadays we have constricting H & S laws. Shame this couldn't gave been kept and modernised. There are no such amusement places in the area now.
Some serious holiday thoughts about this one we was only allowed to go once in our holidays my dad said it was too expensive I would look forward to it I will never forget the day I got off the bus excited out my skull and it was just rubble. To me it was a magical place where the rules of today health and safety didn't exist
Martin, do you have any videos inside the arcade at Tucktonia as would love to see them? Used to go as a kid and was my favourite ever arcade but cannot find any pics online anywhere!
No sorry I don't have any footage of inside the arcade. I do remember going there and playing on the sit down Star Wars game and playing snooker there too.
